the spell works only on humanoid creatures
many people say that they can cast it upon their eidolon
in which case is an eidolon humanoid?
an eidolon is an outsider. can outsider be humanoid?
i doubt this is in quadruple form but if the eidolon looks like a centaur (adding some arms) ... centaurs count as monstrous humanoid. but without arms it is e.g. a dog. does a dog-eidolon count as an animal?

An eidolon is always an outsider and the spell works on Eidolons because of the share spell ability.
Share Spells (Ex): The summoner may cast a spell with a target of “you” on his eidolon (as a spell with a range of touch) instead of on himself. A summoner may cast spells on his eidolon even if the spells normally do not affect creatures of the eidolon's type (outsider). Spells cast in this way must come from the summoner spell list. This ability does not allow the eidolon to share abilities that are not spells, even if they function like spells.
Summoner Spells:
1st-Level Summoner Spells—alarm, ant haul*, daze monster, endure elements, enlarge person, expeditious retreat, feather fall, grease, identify, jump, mage armor, magic fang, magic mouth, mount, protection from chaos/evil/good/law, reduce person, rejuvenate eidolon (lesser)*, shield, summon monster I, unfetter*, unseen servant, ventriloquism.

Also, please note that monstrous humanoids and humanoids are different. You can't use charm person, enlarge person, hold person, etc. on a monstrous humanoid, despite the presence of humanoid in their type name.

Beaten to the punch, but I thought I'd best clarify one thing;
Spells like Enlarge Person, which would not normally affect the eidolon due to its creature type, only work on it when the Eidolon's own personal Summoner casts the spell.
Because it's a function of the Summoner's Share Spells ability, it doesn't apply to spells cast by other people, even if those spells are on the Summoner spell list.
Similarly, a Summoner can't cast Enlarge Person on someone else's Eidolon, since it's not personally linked to him.
