All That Ends Well, Something Something

Monday, October 16, 2017

Hello and welcome to the last set of reveals for Pathfinder Battles: Maze of Death! This includes the rest of our rare figures, dungeon dressings, and the elemental lord case incentives. We'll start off with Talmandor, a rare medium figure, whom those familiar with the Pathfinder Campaign Setting will recognize. If not, this miniature is a good stand-in for any avoral agathion, or feathered player character. And if that's not quite enough for you, we have the swashbuckling Tengu Hero, also a rare medium. If you like bird men, this miniature would make a great swashbuckler, gunslinger, rogue, fighter, ranger, or thief.

Looking to expand your options for spellcasting figures? Maze of Death includes the rare large Cyclops, rare medium Diabolical, and rare medium Elf Mystics, based off of artwork from the Hell's Vengeance Adventure Path and Inner Sea Monster Codex.

Set the scene for a creepy encounter with the Barred Door and Blood Stained Altar! Almost every adventurer, at some point in their career, needs a barred door in between them and some monster. Don’t forget, that monsters also need barred doors to keep the pesky murder hobos out of their lairs. And what credible villain wouldn't use one of these altars in their decor?

The next few dungeon dressing pieces are great flexible items to drop into just about any scenario. Maze of Death includes a Fireplace, Fountain, Knight Statue, and Portcullis. Especially good for any adventure you may be running that say, has a fountain whose waters act as a potion of healing, or take up for a rest in a local estate (that totally isn't haunted). WizKids took the extra step to make the logs in the fire removable for the Fireplace, but unfortunately, creating a Portcullis that would open and close is a bit too expensive for the price point. Suspend your disbelief, remember this is a mini, and remember that magic and extra dimension space saving spaces exist in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

And finally, here come the big guns! I present you with the Air and Fire Elemental Lords, the case incentive figures for Maze of Death! These miniatures are Huge, and based off of artwork from the Mythic Adventures hardcover.

Pathfinder Battles: Maze of Death officially releases this month and is now making its way out to subscribers and game stores! Stay tuned into this space next week as we take a look into the upcoming Iconic Heroes sets.

Maze of death singles

#7 Pitborn Fighter is the only one that´s not available.

Personally i already bought three fireplaces and a Decapus somewhere else, before the singles went up. ;-)

Pitborn fighter is sold out here, but I bought a bunch on eBay for 2.50 :D

8 think this is one people are stocking up on because it’s a rank and file tie fling mini featured in a ton of adventure paths.

The elemental mixup is my fault. I misremembered which Elementals were in this set when building my Paizocon presentation and accidentally included the water elemental.

Rest assured, the water elemental WILL appear in an upcoming set.

Hey Erik, it´s great to have you back here offering your thoughts!

No big deal with the Water Elemental - we´ll get it next year. ;-)
Is there still a "scenery" incentive planned for the next Pathfinder Battles set?
A "walls and doors" set or a modular "Wizards Tower" would be great sellers imo.

You´re probably reluctant to do sets including huge minis in boosters for all kinds of (good) reasons (booster size, changing set composition, sales), but will there ever be an Aboleth?
It´s very probably the most often requested huge mini that has never been made into ppm (besides the Water Elemental) and at CR 7 multiples of it (organization: brood (3-6)) would be useful.

As far as dressing repaints go:
barrels, cages, crates & (round) tables seem to have been the most popular sellers.
I´d still like that grey stone fireplace variant, but let´s see what sells best. ;-)

Odd, if you follow the path from the left sidebar (Miniatures --> Prepainted Plastic --> the "Singles" box), which is the usual path I follow for singles, you don't see them, at least I don't, even now.

But, of course it was in the Store Blog, blindy me :)

Shadow Lodge

Rotolord ninja'd me by 6 minutes (from when I started typing, at least) for the exact same observation - the link from the blog is good, but there is no link in the usual place for Singles.

Also - has anyone gotten their hands on the set dressing to tell which are being packaged in place of Large minis? Our local "Sealed Case Draft" will be happening soon and not knowing which ones count as Large vs Medium is throwing my spreadsheet off a tiny bit.

(Edit: I see from this thread that the Statue, Fountain, and Altar are all medium-ish, and that the Portcullis is likely Large. Any thoughts about the Barred Door and Fireplace?)

Thanks very much in advance, and I am so very much looking forward to getting my hands on these! :)

They did great job getting the singles up quickly, and the PF Battles subscription discount is working as well. Glad I checked here today, think they've usually taken a week or so singles to go up in the past.

Are there any female tieflings in ANY of the sets?

The fireplace is the most useful piece, as it also includes a campfire & wood pile.

@CanisDirus:

Heres a picture of all dungeon dressings.

As you can see by the packaging, the fireplace definetly replaces a large mini, as does the portcullis (which unfortunately seems to be bended and warped in every single case i´ve seen).

The altar, fountain & Knight statue replace a medium miniature.

I can´t really be 100% sure about the barred door, but normally only two of the six dressing pieces replace a large mini in a case, so i´d guess it replaces a medium mini despite being something between medium and large.
I hope i could help you. :-)

It will probably not displace a large mini though, as it isn´t that massive.

I agree that this is more of a Medium as well. You can definitely put a Medium figure on top of the altar standing up as normal, though. I just did it a few minutes ago!

You could also be super-devilish and just put it

upside down to place a medium mini on it. ;-)

Both the door and the altar displace a large mini. You can put a medium mini on the altar, but the mini will likely be too long for it to stay within the altar limit. It should not fall though if placed properly.

That sort of decision is up to WizKids, not Paizo.

Thank you for the reply, Vic. :-)

I guess Wizkids is focussing more on huge minis being part of their D&D minis (the upcoming Monster Menagerie 3 being the 2nd set to include huge minis), but as i remember it, Paizo pitches minis ideas to them and they either okay them or don´t. ;-)

As i have come to know the Wizkids minis team, they won´t change anything in the booster composition by themselves.

It´s a little unfortunate that D&D 5 has huge miniatures available in their boosters, but Pathfinder only had them in their 2nd set... ;-(

you just need to take a little of the top and it will fit nicely.

Occasionally, we go to WizKids with a specific idea for a new format, but the way it normally works is that WizKids comes to us and says "we want to do a product with this format." We might occasionally have suggestions about to how to modify that idea, but usually we just say, "okay—here are the minis we think should be in it."

That's simply not the case. For example, we had always wanted to do dungeon dressing with them, and had talked about a lot of ways to do it, but the current system for distributing them into boosters was largely their plan. And though we've offered up a ton of ideas for case incentives, they're almost always the ones saying "With *this* set, we'd like to do a 2-pack of Huges," or "with *this* set, we'd like to do a Gargantuan," or "with *this* set, we'd like to do a playset plus a handful of single minis."

When they want to try something new (or retry something they haven't done for a while), they might choose the Pathfinder Battles line to try it out on, or they might choose any of their other lines. For example, they brought the Builder series concept to the Battles line only after they had success with it in a couple of their HeroClix lines. If WizKids thinks that putting Huges back into Battles boosters is a good idea, we'll be happy to give them a list of minis to do (and they know that). But that is entirely a business decision for them to make.

Wow, is the Air Elemental Lord big! And Heavy. Both Elemental Lords complete their respective element lines nicely. I did an inventory of all the Air and Fire elementals I had, and the ones in each size category for PFB all go together so well. And, I had no idea there have been so many elementals made between D&D and Pathfinder. I’m looking forward to the Earth and Water Lords when they eventually come out.

Thank you for taking the time to reply so thoroughly, it´s very much appreciated.

It really clarifies some issues for me.
Have a great weekend, Vic!

The Pitborn Fighter is now available from Paizo.

All 50 minis from the boosters are at the moment.

The two large dragons (blue & Nightmare) seem to sell best.
