Introducing Paizo's Newest Monsters

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

Last week we showed you a few pictures of the first few copies of Bestiary 2 to straggle into the office. But we've been remiss in introducing the Pathfinder community at large to the two newest monsters to grace Paizo HQ with their presence. They showed up here around the same time I started at the company, so it's easy to see why their arrival slipped under the radar. They serve as the official golem watch-monsters, guarding our most prized possessions. Here they are, for example, stealthily lurking at the top of the stairs outside Lisa's office.

Sulley (left) is a Gemini and enjoys long walks on the beach, games of Candyland, and Gary Busey movies. Mike (right) is a perfect match for anyone smitten by a "bad boy" type and dreams of one day having a gaze attack and growing more eyestalks. And for those of you who were expecting new monster art, well, who am I to disappoint?

They are holding all of the Ennie Awards that Paizo has won throughout the years. We were trying to figure out how to display all of them and Mike and Sully ended up being perfect!

Oh, that's what those are. I honestly thought that Sulley was holding a figurine of a bat just hanging out, lol.

Special Abilities
An Ennie swarm typically consists of a throng of metal disks which hang from leather straps; a roiling mass of dozens of major awards driving those who observe them to uncharacteristic heights of productivity by fantastic and overwhelming praise from their peers. In such numbers, they can become a distraction, however, capable of infusing those who see them with the sense that even a flail snail can work if it just has the right back-story. Ennie swarms are found in the offices of large human settlements.

Due to their size and delicacy, Ennie swarms are commonly found draped over more powerful constructs which can provide both protection and a colorful place to highlight their owners' success.

So how tall are they, anyway, and where did you get them from? (Monsters Inc. is my wife's absolute favorite Pixar movie - I'm almost afraid to show her the picture on the grounds that she might want to find her own "lifesize" Mike and Sulley.)

They are obviously life sized - look at the railing. Those come up to what? 3 - 4 feet?

I just went down there and did a rough measurement. Mike is around 30-36 inches tall and Sulley is about 5'10" ish (probably taller if he worked on his posture).

That's not even all of Paizo's ENnies—a few of the ones we've won didn't come in medal form.

They were part of a Monsters Inc. toy promotion at Toys-R-Us around the time the movie was released. The promotion included a drawing to win the monsters; Lisa and I entered once, and won. It was a nationwide TRU promotion, so there are probably a couple hundred more of them out there...

You should render such customer service Mark... more art previews please.

Thank You,

That answers my question. (Was he the ooze or the poor mousy.)

Kieran's artwork now makes me feel bad for all the rats I've killed over the years as different adventurers. I swear my next character will be a some kind of rat protecting druid or the like.
