As her blacksmith friend catches her hand before she can throw the door open, Ruisxys furrows her brow at Ayla’s report. It’s a complication she could do without, but she’ll have to make the best of it.
“Right. Softly, softly, then?” she says, pitching her voice to match. “If it’s more brigands, do you think they’ll surrender if we catch them sleeping, or is it a case of a kick in a head and a sword in the gullet?”
She’s obviously profoundly unhappy with the idea, her hand curling thoughtfully beside her as she toys with a possible alternative, as if testing her move. If they are sleeping monsters, grab them by the collar, and knock their heads on the flagstones to keep them asleep? They’ll wake the sorrier for it, but they will wake that way, at least. Or quickly bind their wrists, and let them yowl?
That sounds better.
“I'd really rather we not have to cut any throats,” she says, and with that, having been forewarned by Ayla’s keener ears, she tries to open the door as slowly and quietly as she can, trying to get a peek inside without disturbing any sleepers.
Ghur
”We’re here for a job.” Ghur replied. ”Don’t freeze to death. Don’t get murdered by orcs. Get enough to pay for broken furniture. Get out.” Shrugging his massive shoulders he added ”No reason to fight any more than we have to, so we can survive this mess.”

Ghur
Ghur moved to perform a coup de grace on the sleeping orc. Should nobody move to stop him, he was ready to cut it down without remorse. It was, after all, an orc, and he was certain that if the table was turned it would do the same.

Seeing only the one orc as the door opens, Ruisxys moves to get a length of rope ready to try to lasso the creature, but long before she's ready to take action, Ghur is striding across the room and burying his axe in the unsuspecting thing.
I can live with that, and we'll see how dramatic Xys feels about it depending on how things pan out in the aftermath, if it comes back to bite us. ;)
The paladin winces, and her mouth briefly opens, before closing again as she sets her thoughts aside for the moment for further processing.
Tight-lipped, she adjusts her trajectory to check the next door for signs of movement beyond, before doubling back to check the mess on the table, before her cynical companions overturn it or set it on fire, silencing any clues as to what's going on here as well as any blade.
Sorry, paladins gonna judge! At least she's not an inquisitor! XD
Ruisxys
Keeping one eye on the other door into the room (Door in Room D – nothing fancy, she’ll approach it just carefully enough that she’ll see it coming if someone decides to open it and stick a spear through at people snooping, and she’ll give it a listen if nothing like that happens), Ruisxys is intrigued and pleased by what she finds on the table.
“Oh, excellent! I think? I think these are healing potions,” she announces, her eyes not lingering on anything spilled out on the floor. Try not to worry about the dead orc. For now. “One of these should do wonders for you, Ghur – or at least take the edge off. Maybe two? I'm no mage, sadly, but I gather magic doesn't always bottle well.”
Her attention is drawn, inevitably, to the old books. She riffles quickly through the pages, looking for any clue as to their subject matter. Could she make an untrained Linguistics check to at least identify the language?

Potion: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Ghur nodded. He chugged down one potion and then the next, savoring how expensive they tasted.
”Thank you.” He said with feeling, knowing what the potions could have sold for. ”Can you read that?” He asked, hoping for clues as towards attaining their goal.
Ruisxys
Oooh, shades of Baldur’s Gate! Fond memories! At least, that’s where I encountered static healing potions, I think. :)
“It doesn’t look like Taldane, or any language I can read,” Ruisxys concludes, after a bit of flipping back and forth. “We didn’t have many books coming up our stream, my mother and I, more’s the pity-”
She interrupts her own rambling before it can get too far away from her with a shrug, as she puts one of the logs down, her finger sweeping down a line of repeated notations. “It looks like some sort of register, though. See how regular it is, as if someone’s following due form, even if there’s not much to report? Keeping track of their watches, perhaps. Necessary work, though tedious.”
Speaking of duty calling, she moves back to the door which she surmises must lead to another room beside the entrance hall, and gives it another once over before opening it. Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Since I asked How you check the door, well....
Also given the wording I can have some fun with it...
Orne sees not issues with the door as Ruisxys gives it a once over.
So Ruisxys tries to open the door by pulling the door handle on the door which is stubborn to open,
but after a good pull it pops out, and a thread is attached to it triggering the other door to close suddenly and you seeing and hearing gas coming out from the opening left by the door handle
Fort Save, everyone DC:10
It'll increase each round it isn't stopped or you have escape the room.
Now to think of solutions to the trap room.
Also some simple solutions may effect things.
Might of wanted that Orc alive.... to warn you about that door...
Ruisxys
<“Oh, for Elysium’s sake,”> Ruisxys snaps, in Elven, as she falls prey to the trap. She spares the handle she’s holding a glance of confoundment as her mind races. Can she fit it back into place quickly enough? Or find something else to stop the flow of gas?
“Does anyone have a rag?” she asks, before she thinks of, “That orc’s shirt!”
Not least for being soaked in blood, maybe that could be jammed in tight enough against the pressure of whatever poisonous breeze is blowing?

Fort: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Str: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Coughing, Ghur looked to the door and wondered what could be done. Seeing Ayla jump into action, he decided that the best option he had was to play to his strengths. That is, his strength. Grunting, he gave the door a solid kick.
DM Azure_Zero
Ruisxys rips the orc's shirt and quickly tries to stuff it in.
Ruisxys, Dex Check please to in trying to stuff the handle.
Ayla has no luck pulling the door open, and Ghur tries kicking it through it's strong door frame.
Orne is starting to feel drowsy, -1 on all rolls.

The scales of her armour tinkling as she scampers across the room, skidding to a stop to tear a bit of cloth from the unlucky orc, Ruisxys hurries back and tries her idea between the others' attempts to force the door. Dex check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Unfortunately, she rushes it a bit and has to pull back quickly to avoid getting in the way. She takes a moment to ground herself before getting ready to try again, hoping that she can resist whatever's slowly being pumped into the room in the meantime. Fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Ghur
Fort: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Str: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Snorting, Ghur saw Ayla pulled and pushed his way over to get a grasp of the door handle. Straining, he pulled as hard as he could, the veins on his neck and head bulging at the effort. If this didn’t work, he was ready to start hacking away at the door with his axe…
Orne
Orne Fortitude, plagueborn, prev fail: 1d20 + 1 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 + 2 - 1 = 17
I can try... Let me see. He then takes a stance and tries to find purchase with his fingers, to pull the door open.
Strength check v Door, gas: 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 4 - 1 = 16
Ruisxys
Ruisxys steps back to let the others have a go at bashing their way in, a quizzical elven brow arching - well, archly, but all she says is, "If I could have a moment, please, before we put shoulders to it, again..."
Fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7 Darn! She tries to keep calm while she waits her turn to try stuffing the inflow closed a second time: possibly too calm, as whatever is curling from where the door-handle attached starts to settle in her lungs.
Dex check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 Probably dropping to 20, if she gets the same penalty as Orne for missing one save so far? "My thanks," she says when she gets her chance, languidly, but somehow her languor steadies her hand and eye even as it slows them, and she reaches out with smooth confidence.
DM Azure_Zero
As Orne tries to find a way to open the door Ruisxys is working on, without it's handle. He finds out that door is a FAKE door, a pure trick and trap.
Ayla and Ghur manage to force the door open everyone used to enter the room, and are currently holding it open.
another round of Fort saves DC 11,
since the door is open it didn't increase.

Feeling like an idiot as it becomes clear that the trapped door – however cunningly attached to the wall – doesn’t actually have a passage behind it, Ruisxys hurries after the others back to relative safety in the main entryway, narrowly avoiding a stumble with whatever the gas is taking the edge off senses.

“It’s me! Hi! I’m the problem, it’s me.” :) Oh. Right, not like that.
Shaking her head in an attempt to clear it, Ruisxys replies just a bit fuzzily, thinking back to the sequence of the last few moments.
“I don’t think we’re being watched,” she says carefully, remembering how the doorknob came off in her hand. “With things coming apart to set the trap in motion, I think it’s the sort of thing that would need to be checked every now and then, and rebuilt if, ah, someone sets it off.”
“I’m sorry, I should have noticed something was off,” she adds softly, her gaze downcast.

Hmm...
Blame leads to self doubt. This is but a mere instance in time or another viewpoint or perspective on the One Now, some would posit.
We move together. There is no place for blame.
Ghur
Ghur gave a curt nod to Ayla and then looked at the door with some apprehension. It was not often that his prodigious strength was insufficient for a task, but when it did happen it was cause for concern. "Let's hope that there is another way out." He said, turning his back to the door. "And let's push on."
DM Azure_Zero
Back in the Hall C, you can see the doors that go outside and ones that proceed inside further.
Ruisxys
Ruisxys takes heart from Orne's kind words and Ghur's resolution, and raises her chin, finding her defiance.
"Onward," she agrees, taking position to bear the brunt of things if these doors are also trapped, though she expects that would be silly. Maybe more archers, though, or murder-holes. She keeps an eye out as she approaches to try opening the inner doors.
