You wound him, but not gravely.

You cast magic missile, killing him.

This is after Azig tries to intimidate him. Although Thoric was surprised that Yargin avoided his attack so easily.

Azig strolls in then, poking at the body on the ground with his little rapier. "Huh. Looks like you called it right Daranil. Pull the curtain on this one."

He picks up the wand and tosses it to the mage. "Is this magic or just a stick to intimidate folk?" Then he searches the body and the area around it.

Azig, you find a locked chest. But Yargin had the key.

Azig looks the chest over. "Hey Daranil. Is that putz the kind that would keep a trapped chest? Or would he trust keeping it hidden and locked?"

If he doesn't find any traps:

He uses the key to open the chest.

If he finds a trap he tries to disarm it. Disable Device: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

And he'll show whatever he finds to the group.

Daranil catches the wand, but his eyes remain on the fallen form of his old teacher. The elf walks with a spring in his step to examine the remains. The angle of his fall. The tasteful splaying of his hair. The way his clothing billows around the body.

Artistry (Forensics): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

"Ahh, it was almost too easy. To be laid low by such a simple casting... of..." and his eyes narrow. He leans in close. Though he is unhappy to disturb his work so soon, he simply must know the deed is truly done. Daranil gently runs his fingers along the cheek and under the chin of his mentor's body.

He half expects his hand to pass through an illusion.

Not that it matters, but confusion says that Azig has to attack the last person that attacked him for the duration of the effect, or roll if no one has attacked him. Both Thoric and Bridgette attacked him (grapples), so Azig doesn't roll any more, and just goes after the last attacker.

Azig continues struggling, frantically but very weak compared to the pair holding him. Feeling the effect finally wear off he relaxes and takes several deep breathes. "I think.... I think it has finally worn off. The poison on the needle was something I've never heard of. It was like something was attacking my brain. I couldn't think straight or control what I was doing. I hope to never feel that again."

"Oh. You can release me now. And I thank you much for stopping me. I'm pretty weak but I could accidentally hurt.... Well, at least hurt myself!"

Once he's let go he glances at his weapon on the floor but leaves it there. "I'm going to try that lock again. If it was poison it should be gone now. If that was magic? Well, feel free to knock me down and sit on me if needed."

If we are OK I'll try the lock again?

It would have been easier to take 20, yes.

You managed to disable the trap and unlock it. Inside is a chest full of gold coins, a painting of Lamm when he was younger, and several scrolls with magical writing on them. (5)

Azig looks around the group. "A bit of gold, a picture of the jerk.... Anybody want to make a dart board? And looks like some scrolls. Can anyone read them?"

And a locking, trapped chest. How heavy? But possibly valuable. Azig is weak. He doesn't want to carry stuff. How much gold? We can count it later.
