The Zo!Dome is a massive stadium complex, and playing in the !Dome is the dream of every artist in the Pact Worlds. It's also a main venue for Brutaris matches and the venue of choice for many Zo! productions.
One of these is WHEEL OF MONSTERS, a new holovid show which pits (desperate) contestants against dangerous creatures in lethal combat for credits.
Desperate contestants you say? Surely not the four adventuers that are currently waiting in the green room...
The green room is lavish, with comfy chairs, a buffet of food and drinks, and a wall of holovid screens tuned to various Zo! Media programs, including a live broadcast of WHEEL OF MONSTERS. Currently, a team of androids is being sloshes around on a boat, fighting against a colossal kraken and trying not to get their circuits wet. The arena is spectacularly flooded to allow for the dangerous aquatic deathmatch.
---
The doors to the green room open and an undead woman dressed in fashionable attire strides in. “You’re up next,” she announces, her attention split between the contestants and a datapad. A crew of ghouls with cameras, lights, and boom mics follow in her wake, setting up their equipment around the room. “We’ll record your team headed to the gladiatorial studio, but first we’d like to get some recordings for promotional trailers and commercials.”
As the camera drones take flight and position themselves around each of the contestants, the woman smiles briefly. “Go ahead and introduce yourselves. Don’t forget to tell the cameras why you’re fighting, and feel free to embellish. The audience is more likely to support you if make an impression.
This is your cue to introduce yourselves. When you do so, please make a Acrobatics, Athletics, Deception, Diplomacy, Intimidation, Performance, or any Lore skill check to impress the audience.

"Woo! Monsters!" the heavily-armored skittermander brandishes a large weapon adorably... but still menacingly. "Hiiii! I'm Nat. I'm here to fight because, uh, because one of my followers said it would be funny. YEAH!"
Intimidation: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (14) + 21 = 35

Wazasha seems to be in a bit of hurry, but apparently not enough to stop her from giving a bit of direction to the skittemander Tilt your head a bit more up... yes, thats' good
She takes care to avoid the camera herself, and when all four of the contestants are she says “Cut the mics!”, and finally introduces herself: “I’m Wazasha Kevir, lead producer. Follow me.”
With that, Wazasha strides out of the room and down a stark hall to a massive freight elevator.
“Welcome to Wheel of Monsters. I’ll keep this simple. When we get to the arena, Zo! is going to spin a big wheel. You fight whatever monster the wheel selects. During that match, there’ll be a twist. The audience selects the target of these twists—twists are bad, by the way. So, make nice with the cameras and play to the audience. Oh, and don’t do any preparations until the match starts or you’ll be disqualified. Survive and you get paid. If the audience likes you, we’ll call you back for a bonus spin, and you get a bigger payday. Do you have any questions?”
There's already a muffled sound of audience and announcer audible as Wazasha impatiently waits to see if there's any questions from the four...
AbadarCorp Entertainment |
The elevator abruptly stops and the doors open to a dusty gladiatorial arena filled with smoke, open pits, and spiked barriers. Wazasha gestures to the contestants, indicating they should enter as blaring theme music fills the arena. The crowd cheers in riotous applause. Overhead, a holovision screen shows the ever-excited Zo! standing in front of a large spinning wheel with colorful wedges and bright flashing lights. “Let’s see what we’re sending out to welcome our next contestants, shall we?” Zo! remarks with a rictus grin. The crowd watches with bated breath as the wheel turns slower and slower. The audience erupts in cheers as the flapper stops on…
The crowd chants OFFENSIVE
DEFREX!
Lethea the commentator lets out a breathy squeal. “Oh, my! Is that a laser cannon strapped to the back of that defrex, Quell?”
“Sure is, Lethea! Special thanks to Zeizerer Munitions for the extra firepower!”

The-One-Who-Is-Many |
The-One-Who-Is-Many empties their vitality network into Aleon, causing tendrils to reach up out of his wounds, and pull the edges back together, sealing the fissures in Aleon's flesh behind them as they wriggle back beneath the skin, and disappear.
Have 46 hp back!
They then drift forward, and cast Shield
It was either heal Aleon, or do an attack spell. I figure keeping the melee PC vertical is in my best interest ;-)
Natalu |
Ooooh, they started farther away from the monster than Nat was hoping. Out of rotolaser range.
He switches his focus to his stellar cannon and fires. Aleon is almost in the blast, but Natalu is mostly careful so it's fine!
◆ Switch Active Hands
◆◆ Area Fire. Both Aleon and the Monster are in the area, but Natalu's Bombard fighting style lets him select up to two allies to be unaffected by an area attack, so only the Monster is actually hit.
DC 30 basic Reflex against piercing damage: 2d10 + 2 ⇒ (2, 3) + 2 = 7. The monster is his primary target, so Stellar Cannon: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (2) + 19 = 21 for another piercing damage: 2d10 + 2 ⇒ (7, 1) + 2 = 10.
If it succeeds the save or worse, or if it's hit by the Strike, it is Suppressed until the start of Natalu's next turn. Because of his Dance! feat, it's also Off-Guard.
If it critically fails its save, it must make a DC 29 Fort save or be Slowed 1 for one round and a DC 27 Will save or be silenced (or if the Strike crits, but... unlikely).

Let's see what Aleon can bring in...
Hold Lethea! We first need to have a word from our sponsors!
Ah, I almost forgot, Quell! Bring in the drone. Today's sponsor is AKIVAZ! AKIVAZ! The red energy drink! It punches away your thirst!
Yes, Lethea, and our drone is outfitted with a special hardlight hologram, to punch away our contestants! It's headed straight for Natalu!
Natalu must make a DC 30 reflex save
Critical Succes: Nothing happens
Success: take Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 7 and be pushed back 10 feet
Fail: As success, plus another Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 5 and additional 5 feet pushback
Crit Fail: Plus another Damage: 2d10 ⇒ (3, 7) = 10, 5 feet knockback and fall prone.
...Welcome back! While we were away, we had Aleon take it out on the Defrex! Careful with that knife! You might hurt someone! Quell says, winking at Lethea
Ghost touch, eh? Not funny, Quell
I thought it was, Lethea. Anyway, Aleon is still in the 'snack-me' position, so no surprises what target the Defrex chooses!
Jaws, Aleon: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (2) + 24 = 263d12 + 9 ⇒ (8, 10, 1) + 9 = 28

Let's see what the audience think.... ah! Nataly is the clear favourite here. Here, you get a little bonus for the next spin! Wazashi says as she hands Nataly a fly spell amp.

The arena is a massive Zero-G arena surrounded by a shimmering forcefield - with the audience safely behind it. Two portals, like big goals, are on each side of the arena, and the little ad drone promptly demonstrates that whatever goes into one portal comes out the other side... creatures, spells, blasts, ad projections.
...and the Bonus spin is...
SHARK ATTACK!
“Sharks?” Quell sputters. “But there’s no water in there!”
“That’s right, Quell!” Lethea replies. “These void sharks are cosmic predators that fly through space! Our contestants don’t have great odds of survival!”
Natalu:: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (15) + 16 = 31

I've pasted the zero-g rules on a slide. There's apparently some issues with them (Clumsy doesn't have a value, so let's just say Clumsy 1, unless someone is aware of a ruling on that one -> Shifty, you've been following this closer than me, perhaps?)
Do you smell the blood, Quell? Because Aleon is just ripping open that shark with those shards
Yes, that's sure to enrage them quite a bit. Isephs isn't hitting anything, though.
And a big blast coming in from The-One!

I forgot to mention it, but Natalu does reload his his stellar cannon during the downtime. And I assume he could charge the battery for his rotolaser, although it was still pretty full.
Though, uh... do we have a level 5 pregen in the level 10 party?
Natalu's feet don't touch the floor very well.
He takes a quick shot at the nearest shark. Zero-G????
No. So that's what the spell amp was for. The skittermander takes a hand off of his gun to pull out the amp and inject himself. His feet definitely don't touch the ground now, but at least he feels less... untethered.
◆ Strike Blue Rotolaser: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (3) + 19 = 22 for fire: 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (2, 6) + 2 = 10 and sonic damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
◆ Take a hand off rotolaser and draw fly amp
◆ Activate fly amp
Natalu needs to spend an action to fix his grip before he can fire his rotolaser again.
