Zaria crawls ahead, taking the passage to the north. As she enters the small cavern, her knee catches on a thin tripwire, triggering another wicked looking metal spike to fall from the cavern ceiling.

The trap noise alerts Zaria just a moment before it falls and she rolls to the side just in time, the spike tearing her outer garment, but not injuring her.

After the trap crashes just missing Zaria, she scrambles ahead, staying low to the floor. Karina moves up after her, followed by the others. Suddenly from behind them appears an other jinkin gremlin, wielding a long sharp blade, it moves to attack Alpha-47 who is at the rear of the formation.

Zaria works around the passageway and clobbers the jinkin on the head with her club, marking it as her primary target first.

Ba'hahk steps back and summons an electrical arc onto the gremlin foe. The jinkin is quite quick, and manages to dodge out of most of the blast, but still takes a small scorch mark.

Jinkin gremlins are unknown to Ba'hahk and he has, before today, never encountered any, so he has no intrinsic knowledge of them.

The gremlin takes 11hp dmg this round from club and spell. Alpha and Karina are still up for the good guys.

"Encore," Karina says with a wide grin, commanding her viol to once again strike at the Jinkin once she steps into view of the creature... however it's currently poor visibility, and she doubt the minion struck true to the wily little fey. She doesn't want to waste her expendable magics on anything just yet, since she has a feeling that there'll be tougher foes later on. The music is still continuing from earlier, of course.

Jinkin Ambush - Round 1 - concluded

While Karina's attack misses against the jinkin, Alpha's needles, though not cold iron, prove effective enough. The spell sprays the metal shards at the sneaky gremlin, and they pierce its flesh in a number of places, enough places to end the fight with another dead jinkin.

End of Combat

Alpha takes the only wound of this fight and is at 12/17 hp. You earn 40xp for defeating the gremlin and 30xp more for the trap triggered by Zaria. Should be at something like 340/1000xp now.


The opening to the north seems to be a narrow ledge that overlooks a rubble strewn cavern. The ceiling here opens up to more than 10' in height, if you are the lower level. The far wall of the cavern is made of smooth dark grey metal. A single circular door, tightly closed, sits on the metal wall just above the level of the rubble.

One large jinkin, about twice the size of the ones you have seen, and two of more normal ones, sit amid the rubble, staring up at your light source on the ledge above. So far, they have made no aggressive moves.

Karina draws her viol to her from a distance using spirit object once again, and holds it in her hand alternate her lute. She'd rather they give the jiokin a chance to flee... but it looks like there's already a fight, so she braces for it.


Though it does not seem that the gremlins here understand Alpha-47's speech foreshadowing the fight, the jinkins seems to sense the intent, and look like they mean to lean in to defend their home turf.

Red and Blue jinkins both race ahead, scrambling up to the ledge where the rescuers stand and then striking ferociously with their long, wicked knives. The first gremlin's blade strikes Zaria as she is finishing up readying her crossbow. While the wound is deep, it is not especially forceful, and she takes mild damage.

The other jinkin (blue) misses with its attack.

Zaria takes a crit for only 2hp dmg and is at 19/21. Ba'hahk is up now

Ba'hahk moves up to assist, casting his claw-generating spell and swiping at Blue Jinkin. The magical claw strikes the gremlin foe, wounding it moderately, and opening up a bleeding suppurative wound.

The boss of the jinkin, its nearly double the size, just waits in the debris field strewn below, watching its minions attack, and looking for the right opening to spring on the newcomers.

Rest of the party is up now to end the round.

Jinkin Boss - Round 1 - concluded

Zaria studies the over-sized gremlin leader for a split second then takes aim at him, firing her crossbow. The shot misses however, and Zaria calmly reloads in the face of the two smaller jinkin.

Karina animates her musical weapon which gives a hearty smack to the same Blue Jinkin that was struck by Ba'hahk. That foe looks pretty badly hurt, but is still in the fight.

Alpha-47 launches another flight of needles at the jinkin boss, but again, the target avoids any damage from the magically directed needles.

Jazvit the jinkin leader, clambers up behind his minions, but does not make an attack yet.

Red Jinkin feints and dodges and rolls through the legs of the surprised Ba'hahk, leaping to its feet behind him, moving to the south of Karina, then striking at the caster with its strangely long knife. The blade pierces Karina's skin, causing a minor wound.

Blue Jinkin is hurt, but still willing to fight for its home. It makes a pair of stabbing attacks at both Ba'hahk and Zaria, but both attacks are weak and slow due to the wounds suffered by the gremlin, and neither score any damage. The creature bleeds out even more of its precious blood.

Karina takes 2hp dmg and is now at 13/15hp. The entire party is up now.

Splitting off to help Karina, down the other passageway, Alpha-47 rounds the rock, coming up on the Jinken there, he'll launch another set of needle darts, trying to wound the crature.

Karina finally decides to cast a proper spell, instead of merely using her "telekinesis" over and over again. She turns to the Jinkin in front of her, and decides to send two bolts of force its way, as well as ono towards the others.

Jinkin Boss - Round 2 - concluded

Ba'hahk uses his claw spell again, but this time it does not strike the foe. Knowing he is close to enemies, he raises his shield as means of protection.

Leaping down into the refuse pile, Zaria fires once, then reloads and takes cover as best she can among the detritus down below. The shot is exceedingly well placed, striking the jinkin leader in a vital spot.

Alpha-47 also recasts a spell sending another shower of metal shards at the Red Jinkin, but the attack misses, bouncing harmlessly off the rock walls of the cavern.

Changing up her spell tactics, Karina this time unloads a series of force missiles that unerringly strike the two smaller jinkin. Both reel a bit from the impact, but both also stay in the fight.

Having taken a crossbow bolt to a vital area, the jinkin leader enters the melee combat. It steps beside Ba'hahk and attacks the druid with its stabbing shortsword, twice. The first strike seems sure to hit, but the orc slides his wooden shield in the way at the last moment, and takes no damage. The second attack misses.

Ba'hahk Shield Block saves him from damage. The shield is at 15/20hp. On to Round 3.

Red Jinkin continues to attack Karina, thrusting its long knife at her twice more. Both stabs hit the spell caster, and she might be quite hurt but the gremlins are not very strong, and the damage is survivable. Red then dashes past Alpha-47 and gets its back against the wall.

Blue Jinkin is hurt pretty badly, but continues to defend its home against the party. It makes two more stabbing attacks against Ba'hahk. Neither of the stabs gets past the orc druid's shield, and he takes no damage. Blue then moves to get away from the sharpshooting Zaria. Unfortunately, it is still bleeding from the claw strike earlier, and as it runs, the blood loss gets the better of the little gremlin, and it falls dead.

Karina takes 6hp dmg more and is at 7/15hp now. One gremlin is down. All the party may now act.

Karina animates the viol once more, attempting to strike at the boss jinkin. She smiles through the, now-lessened, pain. "At the very least! This is a good reminder to learn Soothe."

The shield then levitates on its own to protect Karina as she continues to hum a tune.

Jinkin Boss - Round 3 - continued

As Ba'hahk doesn't have Heal remaining, he will have to repost his Round 3 actions. I have shield raised as one action if he wishes.

Zaria fires twice more at the leader of the troublesome jinkin, but neither shot hits the larger gremlin.

Continuing to summon needles and fire them, Alpha's spell attack also misses, scattering small metal shards all over the passageway.

Karina re-animates her viol and makes an melee attack on the boss, but the stabbing bowstring does not hit, and the boss is unharmed. Then she stands her shield up for extra protection, since she has taken some hits already.

Hate to say it, but Blue died last round. I will shift your attack to the boss, since you are adjacent to him now anyway.

Jinkin Boss - Round 3 - concluded

Spinning up another magical claw, Ba'hahk lays into the Jinkin leader who is now next to him, slicing a big bleeding wound down his flank.

Jazvit, the jinkin leader, make a pair of stabbing counterattacks versus Ba'hahk. The first strike is weak after the bleeding wound suffered by the boss, but it composes itself for the second strike and stabs into Ba'hahk, after glancing off his raised shield.

End of Round 3

I assume Ba'hahk raised his shield with his final action, and it takes 4hp more dmg (12/20) but the druid only takes 1, so he is at 16/23hp. On to Round 4

Red Jinkin strides ahead, and assaults Alpha-47, stabbing twice with its steel blade. Again the first strike is feeble and easily turned aside but the second scores a deadly wound hurting the android.

Alpha had unhealed damage from before and is now at 10/17hp. The whole party is up now. I forgot to check for the bleed against the boss in the post above, but the bleeding stops after his turn.

Alpha-47, wounded, continuing to spill nanites on the cave floor, moves to put some distance between him and the red Jenkin before shooting it with more needle darts, eventually he knows they'll hit something.

Ba'hahk retaliats against the leader before raising his shield again

Jinkin Boss - Round 4 - concluded

Zaria reloads fires, then reloads again. Her only shot this round is at her marked prey, and it catches the gremlin boss, spinning him around and leaving him looking quite badly hurt, and not long for this fight.

Alpha-47 continues to spray magical darts at the jinkin near him, but again they miss and have no effect.

Despite being quite badly wounded, the leader is still hard to hit, and the viol manipulated by Karina cannot score a hit against it this round.

Ba'hahk again summons a fearsome claw, and rakes the leader, killing him. The druid raises his shield to be safe from any counterattack.

End of Round 4

Able to take down the leader, still just one jinkin left so onto Round 5.
