Freeman's greande explodes, dealing varying levels of minor cuts from the shrapnel to the closer Riveters. Drone in turn fires what amounts to just harrying fire but not Harrying Fire as its two shots slam into the cover about the hangar.

One of the pirates green responds by drawing and hurling his own grande. The outlaw appears quite experienced with the weapon as it flies through the air much harder and farther than you'd expect before crashing down and erupting into frag at Kalhoun's feet

Gletch dodges out of the grenade explosion. "I am generating a trans-dimensional neural matrix to take care of that distant fellow."

He begins tapping sigils carved into his prosthetic leg, which then begin to glow. The glow flows down circuitry in his leg, connecting to the ground, and a beam of energy shoots across the floor. It comes to a stop next to the distant yellow pirate, the energy coalescing into an air elemental, which slams into the pirate.

Still 1 damage, unless you have evasion - reduces to half, but still minimum 1. I just posted before I knew what the dicebot might roll (and some of you lot might have evasion - characters can get weird)

Gletch and Kalhoun twists out of the way and are barely scratched by the frag blast. Klahoun strikes the lobber with a compressed *BOOM* while Gletch brings in some extrapalanr allies

Gletch: summon creature has a casting time of '1 round', which means it will take a full round for the elemental to appear (it emerges at the start of your next turn, and then can do its full actions right then as you have a full new set of actions to do yourself. Am I missing a way Gletch is able to quicken the casting?

That's how I used to think it worked, but one of my previous GMs told me that it manifested on the turn it was cast. Just dug through and found the rule and you're right, it shows up at the start of the next round and, per the spell description, will immediately act at that point.

Ok, this is some PbP Nonsense™, but, I'm going to assume one of the spellcasters will be casting a spell before the end of Embidi's turn on round two. Is it okay to say that I can spend my Standard Action to do my Spell Speaker schtick on one of the allied spellcasters, but the exact specifics (which ally, which effect, do I need to spend 1 RP because it's a lvl 3 spell, etc) can be sorted out as needed?
If this were an in person game, at this point I'd be asking "who wants their next spell buffed," to sort it out then, but, obviously, PbP changes that a bit.

Ref vs Red's Grenade: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

Assuming I can spend my Standard to Spell Speak, Embidi moves to get out of grenade-clumpiness with the rest of the team, drawing his longarm as he goes; then he'll begin performing the mystical movements and jittery dance-steps, and making little raptoral yips and clicks he needs to call out and coax his allies' magic...

@Thraega, Amy, Gletch - someone can get boosted magic!

That works, and am happy to have it apply to Gletch's forthcoming cast if you're all cool with it.

Red can indeed dodge thought the shot's he's dodging are not exactly crack marksmanship so far. He's less good at fighting off headaches though, and grimaces in pain at Amy's spell. Shaking his head, the pirate looks decently woozy.

Kalhoun lares at Thraega. "I believe what my companion meant to say was that, once we are assured that the missing individuals we are searching for are safe, we can work together to find a solution to the problem with the River."

In his mission report later, Kalhoun would note that he was already on hemmed-in ground when making this statement.

"Okay, what I think we're all circling the drain here on is - we all want the same thing. Believe it or not, Captain, but we're here to solve the River destabilising as well. I am Embidi, and these are my adventurer colleagues. I'm afraid that Thraega and Kalhoun here are right, though - no one's solving anything until you can prove the scientists you kidnapped are safe."

The End Awakens | The Day the River Died

The captain who will introduce herself as Alera Okwana at somepoint in the discussion

"Aye, they're safe don't you worry. We need them to help fix the engine in this rock, but all six of them have been kept as well fed and handled as any in my crew. Maybe some minor roughage when their attendance was first requested, but nothing serious and nothing of the sort since then."

At the repeated and to be fair, accurate mentions and accusations of kidnapping, Captain Okwana shrugs with a smirk. "We needed experts. They didn’t want to come willingly, so the solution was simple. We’re pirates, after all. Sure at first they weren't the happiest lot and some of them but up a bit of a fight - that shirren quite the fight for a civvie - but I assure you they’re here right now of their own accord. You don’t have to be a genius to know all our homes are at risk if the River Between dries up.”

Starting carefully at Amy and you all as you explain your own side, you can see the captain thinking. with a head nod as if making a decision she says: "If you're telling the truth - that you're the 'do-gooder' merc sort and want to help keep the River alive - then fine, follow me. I'll take you to where our guests are staying and working. You can talk to them yourselves." She turns to lead you deeper into the base, then turns back with a warning "But no funny business!"

Freeman:
The captain is certainly frustrated and wary of your intrusion, but what she's saying about the Riveters trying to fix the River Between and the kidnapped experts helping willingly seems to be true. Or at the very least she seems to believe it.

Gletch nods. "You know, you are right that the maintenance of the river is a group effort. While I recognize you are pirates, rather than press ganging scientists into your effort, you could help fund a co-operative non-profit organization for the preservation of the river, which would then benefit you and others in the area. Rather than working on this in secret, such an organization would provide a legitimacy and bring the best minds of the Pact Worlds together on the problem ..." He glances at one of the fallen pirates, trying to figure out what sort of device gives them that stylish moustache, and what's going on with their hooks. "But for now, if we could talk with the academics, that will be a fine first step toward us helping to resolve the problem."

At the moment, it looks like we have the same objectives. Besides ... and she smiles at this point. I'm also an astrophysicist, studying the interactions of magic on the physical world. It's my doctoral thesis. I'm actually looking forward to debating the finer points of Quira's paper with her.

It sounds like she's trying to put the captain at ease as she walks alongside her.

Well, at least someone can make a Diplomacy roll to save our lives.

Kalhoun follows the pirates, hand not far from his static arc pistol. At least for the moment, cooperating with the pirates seemed like the best option, but he still felt uneasy about the situation.

"Aye, we seem ta' be on the same side on this. Better for everyone this be fixed. I be assumin' the civvies will be released after this is over?"

The End Awakens | The Day the River Died

Sorry for delay: unexpectedly busy day on my end

The captain continues to guide you through the maze-like hallways of the base. She snorts a bit at Gletch's admonishment. “Secrets are safest when they’re kept close. The more people know about this, the more chances that outside players with unknown intent will get involved. By keeping this entire operation secret, we can control the situation and let the experts do what they do best. Pulling in outside help would have wasted valuable time, put my crew at risk.”

To Freeman she shrugs. "I run a pirate outfit, not a symposium. They get the River to stop dying, there's no need to keep them here."

You remain on your guard as you walk, but while a few other Riveters join your party as you go none appear actively hostile - just wary of you as you are of them. Eventually, by this point deep into asteroid Y-47, the crudely dug and reinforced tunnels and hallways give eway to something new. You pass by and through a weathered series of ritual chambers packed with magical devices, hybrid machinery, and panes of colorful energy that serve as control consoles. Transparent safety barriers and energy shielding separate you from a vortex of clashing magic, solar energy, and radiation in large chambers near the interior of the asteroid. From the scale of the energies churning within, its clear that these barriers are the only thing keeping anyone in these rooms - or the asteroid for that matter - alive.

Captain Okwana slows to a halt as you approach one of these force panels. Near it, six figures are engaged in a heated discussion. the shirren, lashunta, sarcesian, maraquoi, human, and android wear an odd mish-mash of everyday clothing and Riveter gear.

Maybe if we found a way to vent out the kickstart blast after its application...
Vent it to where? And that's assuming there even is power to add, or that that would aid matters!
'I still think finding a portal to Crea-'
"I love you, but for the last time the issue isn't VITALITY! Besides, ever if that was an option if the issue is water than the plane to hit would be..."

Captain Okwana gestures to the sextet: "See. Safe, sound. Getting attacked by each other more than us."

She then looks directly at Quira. Read your paper .. I found it fascinating ... but I still think you're wrong. Some of my findings, especially in the systems of Enerith and Equis, seem to be refuting your conclusions.

"Clearly they are no longer focused on their captivity, though I cannot approve of your methods. The Stewards would have been happy to assemble a team to investigate the disturbance."

The End Awakens | The Day the River Died

An unrepentant Okwana responds "File a report away. If the Stewards bothered to pay attention to the Diaspora they might have bothered to notice the problem themselves." The captain then settles into a nearby chair, kicks her feet up on a console, and sits back to watch you all.

Amy's approach draws the attention of the civilians away from their debate. The sarcesian Mirai Vox turns and leans down to say

Oh, good. A pleasure to meet you then. I'm Dr. Vox and, well, the situation's a bit dicey. They turn and gesture through the force panel at the churning and roiling energies in the chambers within. This asteroid seems to have been built around some sort of massive arcane engine -
The maraquoi interrupts from behind them 'We don't know that: It could have been into a pre-existing asteroid'
Dr. Vox closes their eyes for a moment, before continuing in a very measured tone. An arcane engine is contained within this asteroid. And regardless of exact construction methods its design is ancient, built by sarcesians of the long distant past. This engines here powers the cylindrical containment field that allows the River Between to carry water from Nisis across the Diaspora and to flow continuously without losing water to space or risking contamination. But it's breaking down - as sadly ancient mechanical devices tend to do. And despite our best efforts we're unable to determine a way to repair it.

Dr. Vox opens their mouth as if to speak more, but the shirren steps forward to rest a hand high on their side. To Amy, and then to the rest of you, the priestess Quira says Perhaps you can take a look yourselves. See what conclusions you can draw, before we taint you more with our own conclusions.

While this is happening, Thraega's supernatural scan of the scientists shows that they look extremely tired, but otherwise in good shape and healthy. There doesn't appear to be any coercive magicks on them as well - though when his gaze turns towards the force panel his eyes and head hurt from the overwhelmingly strong abjuration auras.

If you would like to conduct your own examination of the machinery and engine in the room and rooms about you, you can do so. There are three 'types' of analysis you can do, and if you want each of you can roll for each category. They are:
Mysticism or Physical Science
Engineering or Mysticism
and Computers or Engineering
