Another piece of text appears as Mavericks fires his shots, that looks a bit more unhinged 'Yes, kill it! Your struggle only makes me stronger!'
The shot hits, and the mole, now severely bleeding and drained by Carlos' shadow magic, makes a few spasms and then dies.
The game's artificial night falls, and the ccolor palette shifts to purple lighting with dark blue shadows that move independently of lights. The lighting of the game is still quite bright, though, something that Carlos might not like.
The journal chimes, with the same cheerful chime as before, but with a more dissonant tone mixed it. Opening up the journal, the header has changed to

and the page seems to have been modified: scratch marks appear over the previous quests, making them illegible, and a scrawling handwriting lists one single objective:

Liquid beads up on the page, as though the paper is bleeding.
Oh, and the passage through the vines into the hill zone is now clear! There's an insistent hovering arrow pointing at the vine arch, which a text hovering over it 'You won't be the first to die here'

The vine arch has transformed into an archway, which is large enough for tall creature to walk through, and beyond it, green fields give way to rolling hills carpeted in dry brown grass and withered, dying trees.
A high-pitched scream echoes through the night, followed by a desperate cry of “Stop! Don’t eat me!” Atop a ridge to the east, a squox avatar with nuar horns backs into a dark cave, arms raised in panic as a (cute!) large flower with jagged teeth snaps its jaws. “Help!” the squox cries.

OPERATIVE EXPLOIT
For your debilitating trick, you can attempt to knock the target prone. The target must succeed at a Reflex save or fall prone. If the target gains a bonus to its KAC against trip combat maneuvers, it adds this bonus to its saving throw, and if it is immune to the trip combat maneuver it is immune to this operative exploit. Once you’ve used this ability to attempt to knock a target prone, that creature is immune to your knee shot for 24 hours. This exploit counts as staggering shot for the purpose of meeting the prerequisites of other operative exploits.

"Good suggestion, but how precisely are we going to do that? We have been literally locked into this simulation by those bolted collars."
Buzz turns to Xiffany.
"How long have you been trapped in here?"

Gab nods to Roquefort. "Yeah, but gimme a minute, so I can heal her up..." He pulls some comically-large band-aids out of his advanced medkit. Oh, when Lecti hooked you up, I... eh... asked him to also let me join She says, but it's a better guess that she begged Lecti, ...and he let me play as well. It took me a while to make my avatar, and I thought it looked really cute. But I didn't expect this.
The only way out is through the Vine Arch. Passing through the vine reveals the exact same beach as before, but severely distorted and with many obstacles. The tortoise-house seems to be completely unaffected, though, and the only hope of escaping.
What is even worse, the game seems to be slowly absorbing the life force of the group.
When the group passes through the vine arch, the dead cutie pie plant teleports in front of them, and vines come back into motion trying to snare the starfinders!
