Khon'Ur |
Aey! Time ta kill some more green freaks. He nods at Fraxon .
Which one of you is injured? Does everyone have an up-to-date HP in their sidebar? Ready to use healing wand. Tusk, Fraxon?
Tusk Arane |
I can survive 2 to 4 more hits, don't waste a charge just yet. You might overheal me if you roll max.
Yes. replies Tusk to everyone.
Patchouli Rosenthal |
Patchouli also has a healing wand that she can offer to the team.
"Don't be shy on recovering. We all want to be at our best condition when we face the next enemy."
GM Mike...R |
In terms of health, everyone is on full health other than Tusk (-6) and Khon'Ur (-2). I'm fine with rolling or taking average roles for healing out of combat.
Once any healing has happened, is the plan to go through the door to the east of where the party are? If so let me know who is opening the door.
Khon'Ur |
I want to use the infernal руфдштп on myself and Tusk. I think two charges are worth standing for an extra round. I saw once how Virchue cantrip saved one character from total disintegration. After that, I began to take even one HP very seriously .)
Grumbling, Khon'Ur pulls out a wand and uses it on himself and Tusk.
GM Mike...R |
@Fraxon - Just to double check, which door is being opened? The one that goblins can be heard behind is the one at the bottom right of the room that everyone is in (it leads to another map on the next slide). Nothing can be heard behind either of the doors that Fraxon is currently stood next to on the map, although the one heading up on the map has a lock on it.
GM Mike...R |
Once the party are all healed up Fraxon opens the door from where they can hear the sound of goblins having an argument. The room beyond (see the map on the next slide) appears to be some sort of mess hall. Two tables with benches lie scattered around the room, while decaying food of an indescribable nature sits on the tables. The room has another closed door opposite the one that Fraxon just opened. Also in the room are two goblins stood either side of one of the tables, fighting over what appears to be (for those who know about such things) the hind quarters of a mangy coyote.
As the door opens, the two goblins cease their squabble and rapidly turn their attention to the uninvited guests...

Rouqar
Tat
Khon'Ur
Tusk
Fraxon -2
(Bold may act)
Patchouli Rosenthal |
UMD Shield: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Patchouli move to the front line while trying to strengthen her defense, with no vail.
Tat Gnosor |
Tat waits for a clear shot. delay a bit until the goblins do not have soft cover anymore = Fraxon moves in
Tat Gnosor |
Tat steps up right in front of the open door and throws a tiny ball of acid at the goblin that's further away.
acid splash: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
acid: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 (+1 force damage)
I don't think that hits...
GM Mike...R |
Tat's ball of acid catches the furthest goblin (it just hit as its vs touch AC), leaving it staggering around and badly burned as other members of the party close in.
ROUND 1:
Goblin (grey)
Goblin (yellow) -6 (0 hp, disabled)
Patchouli
Rouqar
Tat
Khon'Ur
Tusk
Fraxon -2
(Bold may act)
GM Mike...R |
Rouqar moves and stabs the one in front of him. But the goblin is too quick.
[dice=attack]1d20+4
[dice=damage]1d6+1
As Rouqar was quite a distance from the entrance to the room he wouldn't have the movement to get all the way into the room (especially with the difficult terrain). He would be able to move to just outside of the door to the room if he wanted to do that?
GM Mike...R |
I'll assume that both Rouqar and Tusk will move towards the combat as neither of them are in range to move and attack this round.
Seeing more foes entering the room the uninjured goblin takes another shot at Fraxon...
Grey goblin short bow vs Fraxon: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
...but this time misses. Meanwhile its colleague, on the verge of unconsciousness and facing multiple foes, desperately steps to the side an shoots at Khon'Ur...

ROUND 2:

I want because AoO should be resolved before trigger, so I can avoid 3 dmg.

Well... .)
Heavy Pick: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 61d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
With an arrow sticking out of his shoulder, Khon'Ur approaches another goblin extremely ferociously, but so far he only damages the already damaged walls around with his wide blows...
Tat Gnosor |
Tat steps through the open door and throws another tiny ball of acid at the still standing goblin.
acid splash: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
acid: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 (+1 force damage)
That should hit touch AC.
GM Mike...R |
I'll assume that the melee members of the party waited for the ranged folk to take their shots vs the grey goblin to maximize their chance of hitting.
Tusk and Tat attack the remaining goblin from range, with Tat's blob of acid finding it's mark once again to the obvious discomfort of the goblin.
Meanwhile Khon'Ur and Patchouli move in, with Khon'Ur's ferocious blow going wide as the goblin ducks out of the way (a 1 and 2 on the attack rolls was pretty unlucky!).

GM Mike...R |
Patchouli knocks the remaining goblin unconscious with her book. A quick glance around this room suggests there is not much else of any interest in here, just the furniture and decaying food. Of the food only the coyote remains that the goblins were fighting over looks fresh.
There is one other door out of this room (leading down on the map). That door does not appear to have a lock, but is closed.
What does everyone want to do now?
Tat Gnosor |
Yes, another hit! Looks like I'm getting the hang of it...
Tat moves nearer to the door, ready to hurl another blob of acid at the next foe that doesn't have soft cover from his fellow pathfinders.
readied alchemical enhanced acid splash: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 (vs. touch AC)
acid: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 +1 force damage
"Ready!"
Khon'Ur |
I'll spend two more charges from the wand and we'll go right in! It's funny because it works for a minute, 1 hp per round. Let's say I have -1 and Fraxon in full HP now, respectively. It will work for 8 rounds on me, 7 on him (one more round to remove the wand and take the weapon). That's if we get into a fight right away. I open the door.
Furious, Khon'Ur kicks the door open. At the same time, he swears dirty, but fortunately not too legibly.
GM Mike...R |
As Khon'Ur's boot makes contact, the door flies open to reveal a curving room which looks to be a good-sized kitchen, complete with decaying tables, cupboards, and bins. One newer table has what seems like a child’s laboratory set up, with broken cups standing in for beakers.
Stood in the doorway is an unusual sight, a green, dilapidated looking mechanical creature, with one decaying humanoid arm and a grinning face crudely painted on its head. Behind the mechanical creature is a goblin armed with a falchion. The goblin almost seams happy to see the party, before pointing at them and shouting an order to his mechanical companion...
There is a bigger picture of the mechanical creature in the slides if you are interested.
Thinking about it, as combat essentially started when the door was opened, Tat wouldn't be able to ready an action as that would be a combat action, but on the plus side that also means that the enemy stood in the doorway wasn't able to ready an action to hit the fist person to open the door, so I think it all works out even. That said, I'm happy to take Tat's roll as his first attack of the combat.

Khon'Ur |
I'm genuinely happy when I see GM who understand how it works. Because I've had to argue about it too many times.
Heavy Pick: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 81d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Khon'Ur strikes construct with a pickaxe, misses, curses and steps aside to make room for a new fighter (and hoping that the enemy does not have combat reflexes).
GM Mike...R |
Oops, I realised I messed up the initiative tracker a bit in the last post and marked everyone in bold even though the goblin gets to act part way down the initiative. Luckily the goblins tactics don't involve him doing anything on his turn that will likely impact on what the party are doing. I also realised I'd marked it as round 3, which it obviously isn't! Anyway....
Khon'Ur's blow against the mechanical creature goes wide. Meanwhile the goblin further back in the room starts to chant and appears to cast a spell. The party also notice that the goblin appears to have split into two duplicates of itself, both stood next to each other.
Tusk and Tat take advantage of the lack of soft cover to both take shots at the construct. Tusk's arrow misses, but Tat's blob of acid comfortably hits the slow moving creature.
After the ranged attack have been unleashed, Patchouli moves in and delivers a heavy blow to the mechanical foe with her book. It does a lot of damage but not quite as much as she would have expected.
Tat still has a move action if he wants, that said due to the way cover works for melee vs ranged attacks he actually has cover from the construct where he is due to the wall.
ROUND 1:
Khon'Ur (fast healing 1)
Goblin
Tusk
Rouqar
Tat
Patchouli
Fraxon (fast healing 1)

GM Mike...R |
Rouqar double moves into the room.
"There it is"
As the construct is stood in the doorway Rouqar would need an acrobatics check to move past it to get into the room. The DC would be 10 higher than normal as Rouqar would be moving at full speed, so the DC he would need to hit would be 15+opponents CMD+modifier due to rubble on the ground.
GM Mike...R |
@Rouqar - I'll leave Rouqar where he is on the map for the moment, but in order to get there he will need to make an acrobatics check to get past the construct in the door.
The construct slams its arm down at Patchouli...
Construct slam + PA vs Patchouli: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

GM Mike...R |
I'll move forward with the current round, although I'll need Roqar to resolve the acrobatics check from the previous round before he can act in the current round as it could have a big impact on where he is and what he can do.
Seeing the damage wrought to his mechanical ally by Patchouli's tome, the goblin points at the aphorite and intones words of fell power...
Patchouli will need to make a will save vs the goblin's foul magic.
