Guidelines for PbP Players

Posting Expectations: I'll generally expect a posting frequency of at least one post per day where input is needed from your character. Obviously real life takes priority over the game, so if something comes up which could impact on your posting schedule that's not an issue, just let me know so that I'm aware that you're not expecting to post during that period. I like to keep games running at a decent pace so if you haven't posted for 24 hours after a post requiring your input, I may need to bot your character to keep the game moving. If further input is needed after that 24 hours (e.g. for the next round of a combat) and you still haven't posted, I'll assume you are unable to post and bot your character as soon as any actions required from other players have been resolved. In the event that a player hasn't responded to any posts for a week and hasn't let me know not to expect any posts, I'll put their character on pause.

Botting Policy: See the Posting Expectations for circumstances under which I may bot your character. I will only bot a character if its necessary to ensure progress and will try and bot them in a way which is consistent with the characters previous actions. Typically I will err on the side of botting characters in a relatively passive and conservative way to avoid putting them in additional danger or using consumables in anything but the most dire circumstance. I may also simply have the character delay or take the Total Defense action. To make things easier if I do need to bot your character, please make sure you have provided botting instructions on your character profile and I will endeavor to follow those as best I can if they are needed.

Dice Rolling: I generally won't make dice rolls for characters when not botting them. The main exceptions being initiative at the start of combat and passive perception checks (you are free to make your own perception checks if you are actively searching an area). I may also need to roll for characters where asking a player to roll will give too much information away (e.g. will saves vs an illusion that the characters are not actively looking for or sense motive vs an NPC that the players are not actively suspicious of). If I've asked for a dice roll, please do these in the order that they were requested, with rolls for PCs taking place before the rolls for animal companions. For percentile dice, high rolls represent a success while low roles represent a failure.

Knowledge Checks: If there are specific things which you would like to know about a creature when you make a knowledge check please indicate these in order of priority when you make the check. Once I've exhausted this list (or if there is no preference indicated) I will use my own judgement about what other information you might want to know about. A list of the common things you may want to ask for can be found in the spoiler below, although feel free to ask for other information which may not be included in this list (e.g. languages, feats etc...):

Knowledge Check Categories:
  • Senses: e.g. low-light vision, darkvision, tremorsense, scent, etc...
  • AC: Total AC (including flat footed and touch).
  • Hit Dice: The number and size of the dice.
  • Saves: Ranked in order but without the actual numbers.
  • Specific Save: The value of the specific save asked for.
  • Resistances: Spell Resistance, Damage Reduction and Energy Resistances.
  • Immunities: Immunities
  • Weaknesses: Any Weakness or Vulnerabilities
  • Movement: All modes of movement, plus speed and maneuverability.
