Liberty's Edge

Male Historian/Curator

Hey all...here we are for our first shot at building a better background. Cannot wait to get started and see how well (or not) this system works!!

Male Human

Ready for a Lifepath!

Liberty's Edge

Male Historian/Curator

Ok...the first thing we need to do is roll our stats. Now your first choice is to roll "Down the Line" or arrange the rolls as you like. If you go with Down the Line, your character will be given an extra feat for "putting their rolls in the hands of the gods"!!

Stats are listed as follows:

Strength
Dexterity
Constitution
Intelligence
Wisdom
Charisma

Once this is completed you can choose your race. Do not include any racial ability modifiers or ability modifiers from any other source.

I will stop here until a few of you have got to this stage.

Male Hairy Highlander Halfbreed (ThirdSwede) Barbarian 9/King O' The North 5/Staffy Dad 7

Looking forward to this one also... right let's see what the dice gods have in store...

STR: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 3) = 9
DEX: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 5) = 11
CON: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 3) = 6
INT: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 1) = 4
WIS: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 4) = 12
CHA: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 5) = 12

Mmmm. Interesting... is feeble simpleton a racial choice :) Will likely go Human, with a mind (albeit a blunted one) to Cleric class... but let's see what pops lol.

Male Human

STR: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 5) = 16
INT: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 3) = 8
WIS: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 6) = 14
DEX: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 5) = 10
CON: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 6) = 12
CHA: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 2) = 5

Finally, a Fighter with more than half a brain. Well, still dull, but with some instincts perhaps. And either an ugly countenance, poor people skills, or both.

Going to go Elf this time…

Liberty's Edge

Male Historian/Curator

Ok...time for a mullegan. I had meant for you to roll 4d6 and take the 3 highest. My fault completely...so you can go ahead and re-roll or if you want stick with your numbers you can do that too (with maybe a free re-roll later in the process!!)

Male Human

Given I already chose an Elf Fighter, I’ll stick with what I have. Once again, the 3d6 method is too swingy for me - it almost invariably gives each character a 4 or 5 in at least one stat…

Male Hairy Highlander Halfbreed (ThirdSwede) Barbarian 9/King O' The North 5/Staffy Dad 7

Given I'd opted for crippled imbecile, think I'll take you up on the mulligan DS... rolling the bones once again, but in Olde School order this time:

STR: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 2, 1) = 10 9
INT: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 3, 5) = 15 14
WIS: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 3, 4) = 12 9
DEX: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 5, 1) = 14 13
CON: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 4, 2) = 11 9
CHA: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 5, 1) = 11 10

Okay at least a functioning being this time round, and one that smacks heavily of magic-use... So Human Magic User methinks

Reporting in.
And down the line we go!

Strength: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 2) = 11 = 9
Dexterity: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 6, 4) = 16 = 15
Constitution: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 6, 1) = 16 = 15
Intelligence: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 1, 1) = 10 = 9
Wisdom: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 1, 2) = 6 = 5
Charisma: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 4, 6) = 18 = 14

I think I am feeling an Elven Expert of some sort - roguish, probably with a ranged weapon.

Even though I am not sure what he will be able to spot or find with Wisdom 5 :P

Maybe because you rolled in order, and old-school order at that, you might be allowed a reroll of one of your 1’s…;)

Otherwise you may just be one of the most foolhardy…fools the Elves ever produced…

Liberty's Edge

Male Historian/Curator

Yeah....I can see that...choose a one and re-roll

Oceanshieldwolf wrote:

Wanted that Feat!

(and honestly completely forgot we could roll out of order)

Rerolling one of the 1s in Wis: 1d6 ⇒ 4

So that means

Str 9
Dex 15
Con 15
Int 9
Wis 8
Cha 14

Liberty's Edge

Male Historian/Curator

Ok, now that we have a bunch of you with your attributes rolled, we can move on. Many have also chosen a race, which is fine. Next, we go to your Childhood and Place of Origin.

Each roll 3d6. This will give you your Lifestyle, social rank, and social rank modifier. Once this has been completed, roll a d20 to determine your Place of Origin.

Male Human

Lifestyle, Social Rank, Social Rank Modifier: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 6) = 15

Place of Birth: 1d20 ⇒ 11

Male Human

Just noticed I was wrong and you *didn’t* roll in Old School order (SIWDCC) Albion. Tut tut! And to think I went in to bat for you! Kids these days….

Liberty's Edge

Male Historian/Curator

OSW - Your lifestyle is COMFORTABLE and your SOCIAL RANK=4. Finally, your place of origin is RURAL.

For actual town names and such I will give you a list to either pick from or roll...your choice!

Oceanshieldwolf wrote:

Hey, hey! I rolled according to the DM ruling (not rules!), and thus I was, by default, old school. You guys ignored the DM, just like them 5e youngsters do these days :P

Lifestyle, social rank, and social rank modifier: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 2) = 10

Place of Origin: 1d20 ⇒ 9

Liberty's Edge

Male Historian/Curator

Well said Albion!! lol!!

Ok, let's see what you got.

Lifestyle is MODEST and your SOCIAL RANK=3
Your place of Origin is URBAN

Male Human

Dangit. I totally ignored the DM. No extra feat for me!

Happy to roll for location. What die?

Male Daytona 500 DM / 12

Sorry I missed the request to go to the discussion board. I'll catch up in a bit.

Male Daytona 500 DM / 12

4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 1, 1) = 11 STR 10

4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 6) = 16 INT 14
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2, 1) = 13 WIS 12
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 4, 5) = 14 CHA 12

Thinking a Human Wizard, perhaps a bit nearsighted and overweight.

SCRANFORD:
An Ally - You are very close, get along great, and visit each other as often as you can.
A Rival - You don't get along well and argue often, if you speak at all.
So you can choose who these 2 important people in your early life are and why one was your ally and the other a rival!!
