The magenta pirate tries to raise his hands to surrender, but collapses on the floor before he can do so. The last pirate, seeing the case is completely lost, just lays down his arms and says Parley?
Combat over!
Oh, jolly well good in time! It's unfathomable what these scoundrels would have inflicted on me if it hadn't been for your timely rescue! Mimlu exclaims. I do hope you're not falling behind in the race too much...
Mimli looks like she has only minor injuries, but she is a lot more tired from the ordeal than she lets on, and wouldn't mind leaving the place at all, thank you very much.
The pirate cove contains very little of lasting value - plenty of Grog, though - as well as a conspirator’s emblem in the shape of the collective Free Captains faction logo.

DM Kludde |

Although the Tomcat was in a great position when they left the course, the little detour in the pirate cove has caused them drop behind quite a bit. There's a full night of sailing ahead, so there's still hope.
The next part is divided into a number of phases. In each phase, I need
- One Pilot check
- One Other skill check (differs by phase)
Anyone not rolling the main checks can aid another
The first thing the crew needs to catch up is MORE SPEED. There are a couple of ways to stretch the boatd beyond its capabilities: you can choose to boost the speed at either the engine or the sails. Boosting the speed at the sails requires either an Athletics or a Sleight of Hand check. Boosting the speed at the engine requires either an Engineering or a Mysticism check.

She settles back into the pilots chair.
"Lets really set the ol' cat free, eh? Wheeeeeeeeeee"
pilot: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (12) + 24 = 36
Every now and then she checks over her shoulder to see if Mimli is okay, and what their bonus kobold is up to.

DM Kludde |

Verrek boosts up the negine, giving Gunnz enough speed to work with. Quite rapidly, she end up overtaking the Dust Monsters, who hiss something about Longshaaanks when the boat passes. Mimly is still weak, just sitting in the back, and she seems to be enjoying the silt spray. Doughan looks far less at ease, hanging over the rail looking a bit green.
Another round of speeding up should get you right in the middle of the pack!
---
Phase 2, same as phase 1. I'm going to take Cavaler's check at the skill check, so I only need a piloting check from Gunnz really, to see exactly how well you are doing...
---
Phase 3
The Tomcat is heading towards the font of the competition when a loud BANG is heard from behind, and the Dust Monster comes flying (!) overhead. The explosion you heard seems to have set off some bits on their hull, and their ship has turned into a massive unstable, greenish-fallout-spraying rocket, only to crash into the sands a few hundred meters short of the finish line. The goblins don't seem to care much, though, they're way too busy celebrating the cool explosion.
Dust Monster: OUT
The fallout spray is a bit of a problem, so you either need to fix it with Mysticism, or convince Tayyara to fix it for you (Bluff or Diplomacy)
