Confident that she is the well-equipped to speak on the group's behalf, Raindrop takes the choker from BigLock.

Once inside the shop, a low whistle escapes her lips as she looks around, impressed. Looking over at Erika when they speak, she flits over to their desk and zips up onto its surface. Waving in greeting, her wings giving off a soft, warm glow, she says in Aklo, "I hope so. We are trying to complete a certain 'book collection' and learned that you might have the last one we need."

She pauses for a second, and makes the mistake of taking a deep breath and instantly becomes distracted by the smells she discovers. "Is that... is that jasmine tea? And do I detect a hint of saffron?"

"You are correct, let me prepare a pot of it so that we can speak like civilized beings. I have those saffron rolls, it is been a blast in the bazaar for some time now. Tell me something about the book..."

After you describe it and Erika prepares the tea and passes it to you

"Ha, I was afraid that it is another nonsense request. Just yesterday there was this woman wishing to buy garundi syringe capable of going though scales. She paid with Linnorm coins. Most unusual..."

Erika takes a bite of the roll and looks around

"I've purchased the grimoire for my own studies because of its author, an Issian shadowcaster who specialized in crafting shadow infused relics. As my working on a treatise about these relics, the grimoire is invaluable to my research. It is most unusual piece of research that could revolutionize the field." says Erika and spends couple of minutes speaking about infusing relics with shadow magic.

"I don't want to get in your way, but I need access to this grimoire."

Dran'Thill recalls one story that he heared that Erikanesh of the Historia Reliquary has recently submitted several requests for admittance to a special archive at the Forae Logos, but so far been denied. Forae Logos is Absaloms famed library and access to it is restricted to members of university or other scholarly institution. As far as you know Pathfinders have access to this library.

Assuming Dran'Thil relays the information he knows, Aktuh will offer to trade for the grimoire if the Pathfinders volunteer to do some equivalent research in the Forae Logos.

"I've been meaning to spend some time there," he admits. "Plus, shadowcasting is dangerous. We have a special vault in the Grand Lodge which we use to contain dangerous artifacts."

After getting the hint from Dran'Thil, she adds with a conspiratorial smile, "You know, I bet we could get you honorary membership in the society. Says Erika, when Hobbs suggests joining Pathfinders "That is an interesting idea, the scholar aspect of society sounds intriguing, but to many times I can see great scholars forced to fight some odd monsters here at the bazaar because Society had no one better to send..."

When you head to the library

The Forae Logos is in Absalom’s Wise Quarter, north of the Coins District where the Grand Bazaar is located. During the discussion, the librarian, a dwarf that seems to be wider than higher, comments:

"You have great timing! This collection is scheduled to be sent out tomorrow to a university in Goka. I can't lend it to you, but you could research it today!"

The librarian takes you to a wide table and presents you collection that is neatly stacked on it. The smell of books fill your nostrils "Isn't it the best smell in the world? I work here for 20 years and it still make my heart beat faster!"

I will just assign aids to the next PC, so Dran'Thill - Fin-thir, Rhizzuk Hobbs

You all throw yourself in a whirl of research. No page is left unturned and no book is left unlooked at. Aktuh starts slow but as he keeps going he even reads your librarian romance novel that he left lying on the same table.

Dran'Thill and Rhizzuk are doing what they can to help the others. Raindrop, Hobbs and Fin-thir are not doing bad themselves. Altho somewhere after 4 hours of research they noticed that some of the books that they need to read are hogged by another researcher. Aktuh is not really subtle enough but the joined efforts of Raindrop and Rhizzuk convince the old turtle to give you the books that you needed. Success => no penalty for your research

During your research you discover a tome on the history of shadowcasting that mentions the grimoire’s author, Estailir Veritar, and his studies under his mentor. The book details several of the magical advancements Estailir and his mentor made together before the latter’s death, including a long-lost spell capable of allowing a mortal to subsist on shadows without other nourishment. You also find a biography on Estailir which posits that he sabotaged a ritual his mentor was attempting, resulting in her death. The book paints the shadowcaster in an unsavory light, though it acknowledges he made great contributions to the field. Tucked in its pages is a 5th-level scroll of darkvision.

When the day comes to an end you go back to report to Erika. Erika is impressed with their keen eye and gifts them a 4th-level scroll of comprehend languages.

"In another biography published shortly after this one, I learned that Estailir wasn’t in fact responsible for his mentor’s murder, but was framed by a rival student whose name matches the author of the first biography. It also goes into his relic-crafting methods in depth, describing several of the relics he created and their last known locations." Erika says after reading your findings, giving you the grimmoire that you came for.

When you come back Mr Glovely and Biglock has another artifact ready lap-sized hand loom, with a note affixed to its frame "Only a master storyteller may hear my tale"

"Now, this one’s a real beauty," Biglock says, as Mr. Glovely gestures over the darkwood loom to show it off. "You don’t see these around too often anymore. It’s called a taleweaver! They’re ancient storytelling devices once popular in the Mwangi Expanse, especially among followers of Grandmother Spider. They’ve mostly fallen out of use, and knowledge of them is obscure nowadays. I was tempted to play around with it myself when I was in that vault, but none my forms have fingers, and Mr. Glovely wasn’t willing to experiment!"

The gloves make an impatient motion, and Biglock chuckles. "Each individual taleweaver holds a story," he continues, "which plays out as an illusion around the weaver. The neat thing is, the weaver doesn’t need to know the story in advance; the threads move of their own accord. When the story ends, the threads unwind and coil back into the frame, ready for the next retelling. Now, this loom is old. The Society’s analysis indicates it dates back to the time of Old Mage Jatembe, so they’re curious about its story. Fortunately, there’s a storytelling expert in the Grand Bazaar. Zarta wants you to head to Relics & Remembrance to see if its proprietor can figure this loom out."

"You can take the loom with you and present it to Khisa, if we are in luck she would tell you how it works. As much as I would love to experience the story if you can do it on your own you should."

Hobbs recalls that Khisa of Relics & Remembrance is always on the lookout for relics stolen from their homelands in southern Garund, as she wishes to return them to their rightful homes.

When you head to Relics and Remembrance, the interior of this stucco-and-wood building is crammed with bookshelves, creating a veritable maze through the shop’s rooms. The high ceiling would feel cavernous, were it not for the shelves stretching almost tall enough to brush it. Each shelf is full of leather-bound books interspersed with items of all sorts; beneath each item is a scroll telling of its origin and significance. To the right of the front door, several tables and comfortable chairs are arranged to form a small tea nook, and the scent of jasmine and rooibos wafts through the shop.

"Welcome, welcome you must be pathfinders, I am Khisa and welcome to Relics and Remembrance. Come and sit with me, how about we start with you telling me a tale of your own?"

Khisa seems to not joke on that subject and awaits you to tell your tale.

Khisa claps her hands "Splendid, I knew from the start that you are the most unusual group."

Khisa nods in satisfaction and proceeds to examine the taleweaver. She frowns, commenting that its aura is unusual, though she’s unable to pin down why. Before beginning the story, she suggests to accompany her outside to see the illusions’ full effects without the background of her shop’s clutter.

Khisa begins to weave, her fingers flying over the loom as the shimmering image of a tall Mwangi man in scholarly robes appears behind her. "Long ago," she says, her voice echoing strangely, "there lived a mage of the Magaambya, Awani of the Tempest." The illusionary man points a staff to the sky, and storm clouds gather over his head. "Awani was talented; it seemed that every month, he created a new spell or relic. He built the first taleweaver, which held a power that none has since: the power to make illusion into reality. But as his power to hold the strings of others’ fates grew, Awani became arrogant and selfish."

As Khisa continues, she describes how Awani began to use his power for selfish ends, hindering or even eliminating his academic rivals and those who offended him by using his taleweaver to craft terrible fates for them. While she recounts these events, the illusions created by the taleweaver reenact them around her. Eventually, she says, the taleweaver itself became corrupted from the mage’s greed, and when Awani next tried to call forth creatures to do his bidding, he lost control of the summons and they turned on him instead.

As Khisa nears the end of the tale, the climactic encounter of the story turns to reality as the taleweaver manifests the creatures responsible for Awani’s demise. When the monsters materialize, Khisa gasps and quickly rushes the small group of bystanders away to safety.

"Oh dear Desna, it is true. This creatures are no illusions."

Looks like it will be awhile before Hobbs's turn but to keep things moving I'm going to post this now so I'll have some info for the rest of my turn when it finally happens. Hobbs's first action will be to recall knowledge on one of the big monsters. He's an evocation wizard with an emphasis on fire spells so he's most interested in resistances and weaknesses. Please post the result of this check once his turn comes up.

Actually if Rhizzuk blocks 9 damage and Hobbs resists 3 fire then it looks like he still takes 2 damage leaving him at 70/72

Hobbs puts his recollection to the test by igniting the end of his staff and attempting to burn his attacker.

Yup. The small ones are almost certainly immune to fire. After separating character knowledge and player knowledge I'm forced to fall back on standard tactics. It's a shame to waste that 20 to hit though.
