Oh and Betel, I'd say your Produce Flame/Water cantrip can also produce enough water to put out someone's fire. Not exactly in the spell description, but it makes sense. In combat you'd still need to hit their AC, outside of combat it's an auto-hit. It won't deal damage, but put out the fire.

Graeyson, I announced it in this post here. Everyone got hit by a breath attack by the imps at the end of round 1. My apologies if it wasn't clear.
That information is probably important and should be included in the summary posts. Characters actions can change based on that

GM Kwinten |

There is a way to put the fire out. As per the Persistent Damage rules, spending at least 2 actions to help you in some way will put out the fire.

GM Kwinten |

Yes. It takes effort to get rid of persistent damage (put out fire, stop wounds from bleeding, and so on). You being awake or not does not influence how many actions it takes. Those are just the rules.
I will usually say persistent damage stops immediately after a fight, as people then have time to take care of their issues, but in this case I'd like to keep initiative going because there's also the dying counter ticking.

Graeyson you can burn all your hero points and stabilize if you need to (assuming you didn't use your HP yet)

GM Kwinten |

Yakuthiel slashes at the last remaining armour and it drops after the first attack!
I said I was going to prolong the combat, but there's now several people who can put out the fire before Graeyson has to make a new save, so I'll call it good. Someone has to use a healing potion to wake Graeyson up though, since none of you have Medicine.
Tonfer peeks up from behind the forge and says sheepishly, "Wow, those spirits were much feistier than usual. Big heroes attract big spirits, I guess. But thanks for clearing out my shop! Don't worry about the armours, I'll fix those up when I have the time."

Bina runs over to the barrel and dunks herself in to put out the flames.
She pulls her head out, her wild shock of frizzy hair now clinging to the sides of her round face. "That was bracing!" she says with a grin. "So, uh, any of you clerics or healers? I'm..." She looks down at her scorch-marred armor. She's also missing half an eyebrow. "Well, I'm not exactly at my best."
When no one steps forward, her face falls. "Oh. Hooboy." She pulls out one of her minor healing potions and downs it.

After the fight is over, everyone takes a while to heal themselves, either through potions, aeon stones, or Medicine skill. Evening falls and you are invited to join an evening meal with Venture-Captain Bjersig Torrsen. Viltydus says they'll let you recuperate for a bit and they'll contact you when they have a new task for you.
As it grows darker, a shimmering lights up the sky. Green, blue, and purple hues fill up the sky and slowly waft back and forth, like a curtain caught in the wind.
I think this is the current status of everyone's HP. Please tell me if I'm incorrect.

She also discovers a third Minor Healing potion buried at the bottom of her pack. I thought she had two but her inventory said three
Hit point loss is correct
She then remembers she hasn't checked her school package yet and also plans to see if she can purchase more healing potions in town.
For now, she just stares at the pretty lights in amazement now understanding why her mother was so enamored with the heavens.
Thank you Desna

GM Kwinten |

Anyone else want to heal up (either by letting Graeyson use Medicine or buy spellcasting) before we go to the next challenge?

![]() |

Bina is good, she's only 3 down, but I would definitely suggest Yakuthiel let Graeson do some Medicine checks if he's willing!
Bina can hardly focus on her food, she's so mesmerized by the dancing waves of light in the sky.
"What... what is that?" she murmurs, her face awash with wonder.

![]() |

I believe they're called the Northern Lights. I have read about them but I have never seen them until now. Some say that they are Desna dancing in the sky and the colours are her dress.
She too is having difficulty keeping her eyes off them.
Do you ... ah ... do you .... want to ... erm ... watch them ... with me? she says shyly.

GM Kwinten |

Graeyson, there's no more time to heal you. But I'll transfer that healing to Yakuthiel.
I'll continue with the story soon, but I wanna see the scene with Betel and Bina, because it's cute. :)

![]() |

Bina blinks and has to force herself to tear her eyes off the lights, and it takes her a moment to realize what Betel is asking before her face brightens a little. "Oh! Yeah. I'd like that." She plops down on the ground, leaning back against her hands, and stares up at the wavering sky, gesturing for Betel to join her. Despite the cold of the frozen ground and snow, she manages to ignore it, for the most part. The thick gloves the Venture-Captain handed out help, of course. After a few moments of companionable silence, she speaks up.
"Desna, huh? I don't do much praying myself, but when I do it's to Chaldira. I like her attitude. She's friends with Desna, though. Maybe that's why I like it so much." She gestures at the lights. "Or maybe I just like 'em cause they're pretty. Nothing wrong with pretty, right?" She winks at Betel.

![]() |

Betel is actually pleasantly surprised that Bina agreed to watch the lights with her. She turns to Bina
No. I like pretty too although Mom says that one should look under the pretty to see whats there. She also said I should get out of the library more and make friends
I'm not much of a religious person either. Mom was a devote Desnian though so I guess I'm drawn in that direction although I don't know the sky as well as she does. Besides, I like to dance and ....... oooooh ... wow as a bright burst flares up.

"Mom sounds like a smart lady," Bina murmurs as she watches the flare of colors wash across the night sky. "But to be honest, I get a little...er, uncomfortable, trying to see what's under the pretty. Least with people. Where I come from, the pretty usually covers up something ugly. Greed, hate, cruelty, paranoia. It's why I never joined up with a crew. Pirates just seem so miserable most of the time. And that misery festers."
She looks away from the Northern Lights to stare at the mounds of snow in front of her. She's never told anybody that before. "Sorry. I always get a little maudlin when I start thinking about--" She almost says 'home,' but has to remind herself it hasn't been that for several years, now. "--about Bloodcove. It wasn't a nice place."
She forces the grin back on her face and looks up at Betel. "This is a nice place, though. And nice company. Lots of Pathfinders I roll with are polite enough, but not many are friendly. Mostly they wanna just get the job done and go back home, and that's fair enough I guess. But it's nice to have good company." She nudges Betel with her shoulder good-naturedly before returning her gaze to the dancing sky.
"Far as dancing, well. I guess I don't dance cause I like it, so much as cause... well, I dunno. Cause I have to, I guess. Like an itch needs scratching. Blending it with fighting just sort of seemed like a natural fit for me. But it does feel good to let it out, so I guess I do like it? I dunno. It's kind of like saying 'I like breathing,' for me." She glances up at Betel. "What about you? What do you like? Aside from libraries."

GM Kwinten |

Hero Point to Bina for cool RP! Wish I could give one to Betel as well, but I already gave her one.
One more post for Betel and I'm gonna continue. Don't want to let others wait too long.

![]() |

Betel had to think about that one .... erm reading ...and swimming. I understand about that dancing itch though as I get it from time to time. Mom used to water-dance in Zarta Dralneen's parties when she was still a Paracountess, em Zarta that is, and I learnt all of Mom's moves. I usually only dance when I'm alone though. I'd show you but I'm not not sure how to do that without putting you in the water as well.
She paused for a bit.
I see what you mean about Pathfinder missions. Been on missions, make a friend and then you hardly ever see them again after that. I guess that's why my other mon says I should live more in the moment and take chances. I just worry I'm going to mess it up.

GM Kwinten |

Whatever Bina might've said next you'll never know, as Viltydus suddenly appears and interrupts the conversation, and asks you to follow them into the Forest of Trials.
With a hurried pace, they lead you to a clearing in the forest with broken branches, scuffed tree trunks, and spatters of dried blood. It is clear a struggle took place here.
Viltydus lets out a deep, slow sigh. “My life’s purpose is to prepare heroes to enter the forest, to guide them to victory. Sometimes, though, the forest proves too dangerous. For every warrior who finds their way to Valenhall, a dozen others fall before they reach their goal. I sense one has fallen this night. Pathfinders, your task is to recover the one whom the forest has felled. Bring them home alive if they can be saved. Return their remains for final services if they cannot.”
If you have any questions, ask them now.
It is dark in the Forest of Trials, do you have any way to deal with that?
If there are no questions, you can find the fallen person with a Perception, Survival, or Scouting Lore check. Only one person needs to succeed, but I'll take all rolls into consideration for determining the outcome.

GM Kwinten |

There's at least one torch, that's good.
Most of the party is having difficulty following the tracks, but luckily Yakuthiel manages to guide the way. After an hour of trekking through the forest, you come to a large clearing. Near a tree stump, a female gnome is crying in despair. She is wounded, but seems in relatively good shape.

GM Kwinten |

The gnome takes the potion and takes small sips in between bouts of crying. "Well- my friend Velin, he- he wanted to show me something in the forest. So I went with him and suddenly he transformed into this hideous creature and attacked me! I managed to fight him off, but and now I'm out of spells and I g-got injured and I panicked and I ran in a random direction and now I'm lost!"
She wails once more, then falls into uncontrollable sobbing. Seems like you need to do something to calm her nerves to get her back home. She mentioned spells, so maybe talking to her about magic would calm her down. Otherwise, talking about how the forest isn't so scary, or simply being nice to her would do the trick as well.
Everyone can make me an Academia Lore, Arcana, Diplomacy, Forest Lore, or Nature check to calm her down.

Bangy Piper makes a friendship bracelet and Mik-Mek comforts the gnome with his imposing presence, and she feels more at ease. When Betel asks about her magical interest, Vintry really opens up. "Oh wow, so you blow stuff up? I'm more of a conjurer, I make stuff out of nothing."
She flicks her wrist and a vine starts growing and curls around Bangy's feet, then releases again.
"It's not much, but I got some spells to hinder my opponents, which is how I escaped. But then I got lost and was afraid to encounter more monsters and I started panicking. But now you're here!"
Vintry gives Betel a thankful hug. She seems much calmer now, and able to join you on the way back. But then you hear several high screeches coming from all around you, and from the bushes come four winged humanoids!
