Selena joins Athena to check the exit of the vault. "We should tell the Archivist about this. The vault is haunted!" Selena says with a scare. "And who is Aslynn?" she asks before leaving Rain towards the exit.

"She is the night hag that Zarta told us about," Ovidivo says. 'An old enemy of the Society. Some of these treasures belonged to her or were hunted after by her." He then moves to follow Athena in examining the hall.

You check the Vault entrance. Aslynn isn't there, for now. Though it looks normal, the hallway is impossible to traverse—no matter how many steps you take, the door at the other end is always the same distance away, as if in a stressful dream. Rain wails in despair when you return to tell him this.

"Oh GODS! We're doomed!" He takes a deep breath to calm himself. "Maybe you can search the vault to find anything we can use to help us get out of here. Maybe you can discover more useful information about the treasures therein or perhaps acquire useful gear to use against additional intruders." Rain begins to tremble in fear. Clearly he won't be of any use until the situation is resolved.

You each have up to 2 checks in each area. Each check takes 10 minutes. Alternately, you may use the 10 minutes to do something other than searching (e.g. treat wounds, refocus, etc).

To-Do List for My Amazing Pathfinder Friends!

1. Talking skull - Please talk to the skull. It doesn’t seem to like me. Maybe one of you will have better luck?

2. Pile of treasure - We probably shouldn’t leave everything in a pile like that, but we’ve been short-staffed. See what’s in there!

3. Assorted items - There’s all kinds of stuff up in the raised storage areas on the west wall and in the northeast corner. Did we find any magic potions in the vault? Alchemical items? Talismans? You bet we did! I know a healing potion when I see one, but some of this stuff is beyond my experience. See what you can find!

4. Pile of empty chests - I already looked through these. If you find more empty chests, just pile them in the southwest corner of the vault.

5. Danger! - These shelves are way up high and piled high with dangerous poisons and possibly cursed items. I think Zarta felt it would be safer if they were out of reach, but we should make sure there’s nothing too dangerous up there.

Selena now remembers what Zarta just told them, thanks to Ovidivo for reminding her. "Oh, yes. I seem to forget that detail quickly. Thanks." she tells Ovidivo awkwardly out of shame of her forgetfulness before she proceeds to move and search the Vaults as Rain has instructed them.

She makes her way to the winding stairs up to the area of assorted items (specifically 3c, icon moved) to look for something that she can use against Aslynn. Or maybe she can just sort the assorted things for the next twenty minutes or so.

Ovidivo heads to the middle of the room and has a look. Unfortunately, after looking for 20 minutes, he fails to find anything useful.

Webny joins Ovidivo in the same spot but also doesn't find anything beneficial.

Mrs Crinkle again checks the weapons area. She seems to recognize good workmanship as she finds a beautiful spear and another well made quarterstaff. Closer inspection shows runes intricately carved into the shafts. (Both are +1 weapons).

Selena quickly rushes towards Rain to show him the brooch she found. "Look, Rain! It's beautiful!" she tells him as she pins the brooch on her apparel. "Does it look good to me? What do you think?" she asks the leshy as she shows the brooch pinned on her shoulder. Would it is still counted as invested eventhough she doesn't have a cape or cloak?

A cry from Rain in Cloudy Day pierces the vault. "Oh, no! She's back!" Moments later, an imposing figure steps into the vault, striding straight past the cowering Pathfinder. With her wild hair, wicked curved horns, sharp teeth, and glowing eyes, she's a fearful sight. The bones of her enormous, clawed hands make hideous cracking sounds as she heaves on a chain wrapped around her torso, dragging an iron cauldron across the stone floor. It nearly tips, spilling a glob of vile black ooze filled with vibrant constellations.

She casts her gaze around the vault and rises to her full height. She speaks, her voice like a dying goat by a crackling fire. "What is this? Ah yes, I see. Precious treasures, all for me! "[b]A dagger, its twin my child wields. I command you, Star: break cities! Burn fields!

"[b]A key, its message yet unclear. Why does it hide? What does it fear? "[b]Pathfinders! You'll seek boundless wonder across the land... and find Aslynn's nightmares, hand in hand!"

Aslynn stoops to grasp the chain once more and proceeds with her cauldron into the vault, still ignoring Rain and anyone else around her. Suddenly, a new voice—a harsh whisper—carries through the air. "Psst! Hey, you! Pathfinders! She's not real. Well, not too real. Just a bit. No time to explain! You've got to distract her! Don't let her find what she's looking for! Distract her, then find a way to get rid of her!"

DC 15 Perception:
You realize that the voice seems to come from every direction at once, as if from a talented ventriloquist.

There are two phases to this next encounter. Your goal is to first distract Aslynn from the treasure pile, then to trap her. Fail this and she gets what she wants.

When I played this, it didn't really translate fully to any sort of effective role play so we can do a combination of RP and being technical (i.e. dice rolling)...

To distract Aslynn from the treasure it seeks - Deception/Performance/Occultism

To Trap Aslynn:
* Arcana, Nature, Occultism, or Religion to speak incantations
* Crafting or Deception to swap valuable magic items with shiny non-magical baubles
* Lore to Recall Knowledge about night hags and their behaviors and
weaknesses
* Other skills possible if you can make it fit.
* 2 successes needed or 1 Crit success

Failures:
* There are penalties, of course. But you'll discover them as you go.
* You need to have successfully distracted Aslynn before trying to trap her, or the check to trap her will fail.

At Rain's call, Mrs. Crinkle bustles back toward him, just in time to see the scary lady totally ignoring everyone and talking to herself like an arrogant madwoman.

Where *is* that voice coming from? And whose is it? Oh well, seems as good advice as any. Heehee! Recognizing that Athena is creating a decent distraction, Mrs. Crinkle slips forward to do a good ol' switcheroo. Her practiced eye spots some well-made mundane items that look like they *could* be magical, so she takes the moment of distraction to switch their places with some magical items.

If she gets too close, I'll have to get in her face. Ooo! Maybe she'd like to dance with an old lady! Heehee! A part of her wants to know how Aslynn would respond to an old lady just walking up and sweeping her into a tango. That sure would be amusing! But maybe she's not actually physically here... Poo. That would be disappointing.

Selena pleads Aslynn to leave them alone since they are not hurting her anyway. "Please, leave us alone. We're not going to hurt you if you leave us all. Whatever you are finding here, I think they are not here since we have not found them either. Better look to other places for those things. So please go away." she tells her though she thinks it might be ineffective.

Athena gets Aslynn's attention by gesturing towards a pile of baubles. Her act is so convincing that Aslynn unquestioningly follows. Meanwhile, Mrs Crinkle manages to surreptitiously switch the dagger for something that looks similar.

Two successes. Well done!

Aslynn shrieks with delight and rushes to the pile of treasure at the center of the vault. "It’s here! I can taste it! Come to me, my dearest nightmares!" She rakes through the treasure with her claws, scattering coins and shredding pages. "Where is it?! Where?! I must have it! What have you done with it?!" With a final shriek, she curls in on herself, melding with the ooze from her cauldron. She and the cauldron melt into the floor, bubbling and hissing. The sounds turn to frantic chittering as dozens of rats begin pouring from the ground.

Webny focuses on the big clump of rats nearest her and fires two shots in succession.

"Rats? Really?" She retreats to the south to give herself a bit of breathing room.

Webny shoots two arrows at the swarm. She hits with one arrow but it doesn't seem to affect the swarm. The second arrow skips off the floor beside the swarm.

Yellow closes with Ovidivo and bites him.

Well, I started down in area 6, so here we go a-hustling.

Following the sounds of fighting, Mrs. Crinkle hustles out of the armory and up the stairs, only to spot at least three of her pals whacking away at a couple of rats. Oh, is that all? Certain that Aslynn could do worse, she continues on past the next stairwell and pops out on the main level of the archives...just in time to see Rain cringing away from another giant rat and a writhing mass of normal ones. Using her most soothing granny voice, she coaches the leshy: "Hang on, honey. Back up slowly so I can get between you and the nasties. That's it, dearie."

You manage to trace the voice to Area 4, where Rain had dumped all the empty chests. As you approach, a disembodied pair of elegant blue gloves busily clears chests off a table. The gloves make a "Stop right there!" gesture before signaling toward the table. They gently pat its surface, then indicate the boxes on top of it. The voice from earlier says, "I see you’ve met Mr. Glovely! He wants you to help clear those boxes. I’m, uh, underneath them. It’s a bit embarrassing. Help a poor guy out? Many hands are better than two! No offense, Mr. Glovely." The gloves wave dismissively, as if to say, "None taken."

No need to make a check, just indicate whether you'll help getting all the stuff off the table
