Usgar |
Usgar looks at the cloaked figure and the two goblins and shrugs.
"Ehh, so did you kill this guy? Because of a journal? Hmm, seems a little drastic to be honest."
Sense Motive on the cloaked figure: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Escher. |
Escher steps forward in a guard position alongside Usgar. "That is not going to happen. You can prove your claim with the watch." While his words are polite, it is as solid as his adamantine plating. "I suggest that you move along."
Karsh'e |
Karsh'e turns around to put his back against the railing. His hand drops to the handle of the whip wound around his stomach just above his belt.
Beren Lonn |
There are more of us. If you can count, get out of here. Beren throws back the skirts of his coat, under which a spectacular automatic crossbow is visible. He puts his hand on the handle and his eyes turn into two narrow lines. Drops of water are running down his face, he's probably cold because he's all wet, but he doesn't notice it. Assembled like a spring, it looks like a cobra before the bite of the victim. I repeat it for the first and last time... Go away.
Lia eberron |
As everyone is posturing Lia puts the journal inside her cloak and steps back from the body, hoping the tense situation will help hide the action...
sleight of hand: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Instead she almost drops it and has to be obvious about what she is doing.
This is a good point to tell everyone that DiceBot seems to really be hating me recently....
EltonJ |
Escher draws his ogre-sized blade. "Oh, I have no intention of letting you kill anyone else today."
What weapons/armor/plating do the warforged and goblins have?
She has mithril plating (D&D spells it mithral for some reason). Goblins are in chain shirts. All three are armed with broadswords/longswords.
"Kill us? We aren't a helpless old man alone in the night. What does a coward that kills such think she can do to real warriors?" Kaine says in a mocking tone as his blade clears its scabbard.
"I have the right to kill any meatbag," she says.

You're right. The second goblin is also up. The goblin is attacking Escher.
The goblin attacks Escher with his short sword: Goblin attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19, damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Beren Lonn |
You shouldn't have done that, man. Beren retreats to the southern part of the bridge in order to be able to shoot at one of the goblins without interference, simultaneously grab a multi-shot crossbow in his hands.

The other goblin is down. (He took a critical strike from a crossbow). The goblin represented by the BLUE goblin token is down.
Escher. |
It was hard to tell as you used numbers one one and colors on the other. And it's still good to check everybody has acted before going on to round 2
Round 1
Escher attacks the warforged, but can't find an opening.

Round 2
Changing up his strategy, he goes for a different style entirely.

As the warforged keeps coming, Karsh falls back so that Usgar can attack more easily. He doesn't want to get caught between such deadly combatants. "He's all yours, Usgar. Everyone take heart. Today you fight beside a mighty warrior, who has faced overwhelming odds..."
Move action Cautious 5' step back as shown.
Inspire Courage as second action. An affected ally receives a +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls.
I've never run a whip wielder before. Do I have to roll the attack and CMB as above or just the CMB if I'm using the whip to trip?

A whip deals no damage to any creature with an armor bonus of +1 or higher or a natural armor bonus of +3 or higher. The whip is treated as a melee weapon with 15-foot reach, though you don’t threaten the area into which you can make an attack. In addition, unlike most other weapons with reach, you can use it against foes anywhere within your reach (including adjacent foes).
Using a whip provokes an attack of opportunity, just as if you had used a ranged weapon.
You can use the Weapon Finesse feat to apply your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier to attack rolls with a whip sized for you, even though it isn’t a light weapon. Wielding a whip in two hands does not add 1-1/2 times your Strength modifier to damage rolls as with other weapons (UE update).
There is nothing in the SRD that says you have to roll CMB. But since Cutter has an mithril body, the attack deals her no damage, but you can trip her.

Yep, that's knocked him out.
Lia will find a spot out of the rain and pulls the journal out.
"Well, let us see what all this horrid behavior was about, shall we?"
There appears to be nothing written in the journal. The pages are all blank.
Usgar |
Usgar searches the warforged and the goblins.
Take 20 for 27.
Karsh'e |
Karsh'e walks to the far end of the bridge to make sure there are no more foes in hiding. Then he returns to the party, and drifts closer to the elf, Lia.
"What does it say? "
Kaine ? |
Kaine looks about for any telling clues, but seeing nothing peculiar (besides the blank journal), he looks up at the group.
"A lot of effort for a blank journal, don't you think? And she was quite glib of both her intentions and outlook. Such confidence is telling in itself." He quirks an eyebrow at the rest.
"Her sneers seem to confirm her claim that she is a follower of the Lord of Blades. Now what would they want with this old man? Perhaps we should focus on identifying him. I also think that our possession of that journal, if that possession becomes known, will make us some powerful enemies."
Lia eberron |
Lia takes a close look at the journal to see if it has a hidden catch or pocket or similar.
"Perhaps there is a magical or naturally hidden message in it. It is apparently important enough to kill for. "
Usgar |
Usgar thinks for a moment. But thinking is quite hard.
Escher. |
"If we cannot figure out how to read the message, we will need to be careful who we consult." he muses, "With the motif on the cover, it could be house Cannith. Which means it could be concealed magically or alchemically."
Lia eberron |
Lia looks up at Escher and a second later smiles.
"Ah, I have access to people the rest of you do not who are less inclined to worry about local politics. We can find a quiet place to look at this ourselves and if we cannot figure it out, I can query one or two of my people.... But for now, do we report this incident or would that be more trouble?"
Usgar |
Usgar grunts.
“ I do not really care much about authorities! If this house, whatever knows more than maybe we can go there and actually get some gold for this book!? But maybe people will think that we actually killed this person so maybe the guards are the right place after all?!“ he says scratching his head.

Two males and a female, wearing the green-and-black studded leather of Sharn’s City Watch, emerge from the rain-drenched night. The leader, a powerfully built bald dwarf with a close-cropped beard, steps forward, leveling his crossbow in your direction. The small ball of arcane light, hovering just above and behind his left shoulder, illuminates the area. To each side, a human male and female stand with halberds at the ready.
“Olladra’s bloody nose!” the dwarf curses. “By order of the Watch, drop your weapons and explain yourselves!"
