Roran groans in frustration.

Again an arrow hits the wall!

But the Ettin is very injured!!

The taunting is successful as the Ettin attacks Grim again but only hits the ceiling!!

Somehow Desna and Chaldira are not shining their light on Roran at the moment.

"Yes, please help us out by standing still"

Sirani fires off another electric blast.

Electric Blast (Ranged Touch): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 for Electricity: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

... and also not on Sirani as they both miss with their ranged attacks!

Yomo cackles to extend misfortune again and reloads the crossbow

Grimwald laughs and laughs at the Ettin, trying to communicate the universally understood disrespect of laughing in its face... while he is simultaneously terrified of getting smashed to a pulp.

Action: Total Defense

The Ettins panicks and at the same time realizes that he has a hard time to hit Grim!

He sees that Grim is in Total Defense and cannot take attacks of opportunity so he moves back towards Roran! The Ettin attacks Roran but only hits the floor with a loud sound!!

Roran takes a swift step approximately five feet away from the Ettin and attempts to shoot the beast again.

Yoko moves up as much as possible (just within 30) and cackles again

This is starting to hurt the throat... may need new tactics eventually...

Xildnia looks to Sirani and gives a nod.

Good that you are back in the game Xildina! ;-) Just a comment that your weapon is on the floor and you would need a move action to pick it up and an additional move action to sheathe it. So I assume the weapon remains on the floor and you have your loader crossbow. I hope that is fine.

Roran misses but the Ettin uses the opportunity to strike Roran when they use their bow!

Grimwald does not abandon his plan to hold the ettin at bay while his friends pepper the beast from range.

"Be safe Xildina, one more blow could potentially kill you. Let me harass the thing into the corner while Roran and Sirani slay it. Keep away from it, Roran!"

Grimwald moves up, still with his buckler raised, but now with the handaxe in a more threatening manner.

With Xildina back on her feet, Sirani charges up another ball of electricity and sends it crackling towards the ettin.

You check out the large giant!!

Clinging to the foul skin of the Ettin you find a beautiful, glittering golden pendant in the shape of a dragon's head which was smeared with blood. You can easily search the rest of the cavern, finding nothing but filth.

Additionally, a ring and several Thassilonian relics are bound to the Ettin's right hand.

The woman that the Ettin dropped is probably Gilda Korgren, the mother of the Tiefling. She also has runes carved all over her body.

Sirani breathes a deep sigh of relief. "Is everyone still with us?"

He heads over to the woman to see what he can determine with his meager knowledge of medicine.

Heal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17

"I can't believe that worked. Well, I guess I do believe it! You guys were amazing!"

Grim deals one more savage blow to each giant head to make sure it isn't getting up before collecting his bow and joining the others searching the cave.

Heal: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

"That lady, she died from the runes they carved in her. Not from the ettin. Also, friends, we need to take the dragon pendant back and maybe we should take the artifacts and the ring"

Roran moves to look at the woman.

"I'll take your word for it, Grim. Lets..." Roran winces a little from his injury, "Wow that thing could hit. I agree. Let's take the things and head back."

"Did our mystery tiefling do this to their own mother? We should bring her back as well, perhaps we can arrange the proper rites for her."

You can easily search the rest of the cavern, finding nothing but filth.

There is nothing else except of the knowledge check but I think Grim got that one at the beginning of combat.

Yes, bringing her back would be the right thing to do. No matter how misguided, all deserve better than this.

After you have defeated the ettin and recovered the golden pendant, you emerge from the cave to find yourselves ... face to face with Aurelliax in her true form (picture in the slide deck).

She is a magnificent mature adult gold dragon whose presence dwarfs your own.

"Oh, bother... we're here to help, we swear."

In an exhausted fashion, Xildina awkwardly bows.
"Xildina Sloane, daughter of the Aldori school of dueling. Page to... ah, it does not matter right now."

Sirani looks at Aurelliax in awe, unsure what to do in a dragon's presence.

Finally, he settles on a bow.

"Sirani of Thuvia, at your service."

Are you... Aurelliax?

Grim takes his lead from his companions and bows his head briefly, then looks up to see what the dragon intends.

The dragon raises an eyebrow when hearing your questions ... silence follows for several seconds.

”Yes. I am Aureliax. I of course know who you are. Thank you, travelers, for protecting the people of Highdelve, and for recovering my amulet. Truly, you are the heroes these people … and I … needed. Let me commend you, as well, for sparing the lives of those children that belong to this town ... I will take care that they are loved and brought back to this community!“

"I think the question remains of why these people moved against you and Highdelve, and what does this ring that is so important to the cult do?"

The dragon nods with respect.

“I was surprised to see that they really were so eager to harm the one thing that means so much to me … Highdelve. The blood sacrifice combined with the depletion of all magic in these items was necessary to make the giant invulnerable to my attacks. But … you were here!“ the dragon says and it’s golden scales move as it raises its head in thought.

"Mighty Aureliax, were these youngsters alone in their actions? Do we need to find the true evil behind their plan?

"The kids were only instruments ... I will take them under my wing." the dragon says and looks at the bloody pendant that you still hold.

"Allow me to relieve you of this item!" she says.

You see the golden pendant levitate in the golden dragon’s direction and it vanishes when touching her scales.

She looks at you for a while.

”Please accept these as a token of my appreciation.“

Four statuettes of gold dragons with diamonds for eyes appear out of thin air and levitate to your hands.

Roran's eyes grow big and bright as he eyes the statuettes. He gingerly reaches out and grabs the one that levitates toward him. He nods in respect to the dragon.

"Thank you. It is... most generous of you."

You can see that she is content to see you appreciate the present which truly look identical to her perfect form.

”Now,” she says, unfurling her magnificent wings. ”would you care to ride in the cart as I carry the cart of brightblooms, along with the children, back to Highdelve?”

Yoko bows It would be an honor

After the ride of your life you land in Highdelve and can finally enjoy the
jubilee!

You also see the dragon in human form when the town welcomes you all!
What you do with the rest of your time ... only you can tell!
