You find yourselves in room paneled with wood and a dusty carpet covering the floor. A large, heavy desk sits in the center of the room. Several wooden chairs are grouped north of the desk. Behind the desk is a large, plush chair, while behind the chair on the south wall is a mounted lion's head. Four large painted urns stand in the corners of the room. Finally, on both sides of the north doorway are stone pedastals with stone statues of demonic humanoid beasts. These beasts bear wicked claws and fangs, and horns adorn the crowns of their heads.

The body with Demetrius looks around the room, scowling at it, as if not finding it to its liking, as if comparing it to a former glory and better days.

Suddenly his eyes go wide.

"Cayde, my friend," says the body in a voice more akin to the religious that is Gorn, rather than a long-dead vengeance seeker. "Those beasts there, the ones of inhumane guise, they are not as they seem!

They are more akin to the unfortunate stalkers we have just left behind us! Please, do taketh thy weapon and lay them low. One and then the other. Perhaps if we strike now we might cause them too much damage for them to be any threat upon the instant when they do become animate!"

Eyes narrowing, Cayde nods and readies his fullblade. “So if we only attack one, the other might not react? Interesting…” he muses.

Moving off to the side, Cayde attacks the nearest statue with his blade.

Cayde, as subtlety as a barbarian can, sidles up next to one of the "statues" and cleaves deeply into the creature. Only the magic in his blade prevents the blade from being partially deflected by the creature's rocky hide.

Emenius follows up with a solid blast of fire to the creature's chest as both "statues" come to life, brandishing razor sharp claws and fierce fangs.

The rest of the party is up, rolled a 1 for the monster's initiative.

Raising his short blade, the gnome slips forward next to the barbarian and tries to jab the steel into a crack or other obvious weak point.

Alright back among the living, sorry for the delays. Still no Gorn is a bit disheartening.

Gorn-Demetrius, seeing the grievous wound incurred by Cayde, touches the barbarian with a glowing hand.

Cure Wounds 3rd Level: 3d8 + 3 ⇒ (6, 8, 5) + 3 = 22

Cayde lands a heavy blow, carving off bloody hunks of stone from the creature, before Tek sneaks in and drives his blade into the exposed flesh, ending the first creature's life.

Aethorduil does his best to draw the attack from the remaining "statue", hoping to save Cayde a bit of pain. While Baheera and Emenius both blast the remaining creature with magical energy.

The "statue" takes Aethorduil's bait and lashes out at the elf with claw and fang, biting deep into the elf's arm.

Aethorduil takes 10 damage from a crit!

Emenius, keeping his distance from the fray, hurls a bolt of flame at the creature that catches it square in the face.

FYI, at your current level the green-flame blade only does the fire damage to another enemy within 5 ft of the initial target. When you hit level 5, the fire damage would apply to the target of the melee attack as well.

Sweating and cursing with each swing of his sword, the gnome tries to find a weak spot within the hard stone form of the enemy. For a moment his eyes alight with hope as the blade appears to find the wished for weak point. Alas, his tired arm barely manages to jab with any strength whatsoever. The lack of physical strength is more than made up for by the string of curses that cascade forth like a lousy ale flowing in a dockside bar.

Cayde lands a reckless, heavy blow on the statue, while Aethorduil and Tek contribute lesser blows. Regardless the combined assault is enough to fell the creature, ending the threat.

"What's that you found?" Tekubray says walking over to the barbarian after putting away his sword and huffing for several seconds to catch his breath. Seeing the locked drawers he pulls out his set of tools and begins to fiddle with the mechanism.

"Hrrmmm...let's see...come on you little devil." He mutters while twisting the picks carefully back and forth waiting to hear the telltale *snick* of the lock opening. Unfortunately, the locks prove to be as stubbornly difficult to pierce as the statues stone hide.

"Rusted shut." The gnome postulates returning his tools into the little leather pouch with a shrug. "Not much else I can do to get in there. Of course, if one was really curious..." He adds quirking an eye brow as he glances at the great big sword in Cayde's hand. Another shrug.

"Or we just move on to the next chamber in this little slice of underground paradise."
