Wizards of the Coast originally created the Open Gaming License that everyone has been using to publish their own games with for the last 20+ years. Now they want to invalidate the current OGL and replace it with an OGL 1.1 that does some rather nasty things: demands 25% royalties if you happen to be successful enough, lets Hasbro/WOTC simply take (royalty free) any of your content that they like, and lets them do the whole Darth Vader thing of 'I am altering the agreement - pray I do not alter it further'.

So far all we have is a leaked pre-release of the OGL 1.1 that everyone is up in arms about.

Of course - the other problem is that I don't have much of an opinion on which hexes get explored by allies.

This might include Paizo, since they were part of Wizards way back in the day of 3.5, and since Pathfinder is 3.5 v2, so to speak, the whole updated license thing could potentially drown a lot of businesses.

Yeah, there are lots of people doing all sorts of speculation.

My expectation is that they can't actually revoke the current OGL - meaning that stuff that has been published already couldn't somehow be clawed back or forced to have their license agreement changed retroactively. Contracts (including license agreements) don't work that way. It is debatable if the current OGL can even be retired entirely. There seems to be some conflicting language.

But yeah, there are a lot of 3rd party D&D 5e content creators that are not very happy right now.

It sucks because I am friends and enjoy a lot of 3rd Party stuff. That being said, I am glad that Pathfinder/D&D is actually not one of my favorite games (though you'd have a good argument against that with how many games I'm in :P)

Yeah, it always impresses me (in a not good way) how obtuse both school administrators and IT network administrators can be.

I mean, seriously. Why shouldn't we allow high school students to spend their free time learning basic math, creative writing, and social collaboration skills?

It's important to make sure the young aren't just having ... ideas and stuff. It leads to entropy for sure.

It is up to you. Since it seems that most everyone else is coming along, you might as well come too.

Remember that Follow the Expert potentially adds your level +2 to the check - so that is currently +8 to what you have if you are untrained.

If you are already trained, then it will just add +2.

Re: blocking Paizo - I honestly don't really think it's that deep. They upped some security due to some websites being a problem with students, and I think Paizo got hit in the crossfire. Our IT boss is a jerk, but his other people are awesome. :)

Update. Dog is fine for the time being. Had to shorten the tail, because he is cute as a dick, but just as dumb. What started as a minor injury on the tail, through several days of licking and biting, became a serious issue. Infection, inflammation, all of the lovely things one likes when they lack impulse control. As a bonus, he had a birth defect (crooked tail) that did not help with the healing process. So now I have a discount dog. 50% off.

Yeah, I caught a couple of Youtubers talking about Wizard's powerplay last night when the boards were down. Paizo freaking rocks! Dropping a hammer right on their head, bay-bee!

I would LOVE to see WoTC just BURN to the ground the way they wanted to burn the rest of the D&D world to the ground. "Pay us or else!" Freaking jerks. And "jerks" is just me being nice. Well, we see how long that lasted when the PEOPLE spoke out. Heck yeah! Yay for the people! I see they "backtracked" for now. Sure did change their tune QUICK when some big time D&D folks were suggesting to everyone out there to cancel their D&D Beyond subscriptions. I freaking love it! I hope they lost a TON of subscribers.

Yeah. The forums recently re-opened the comment section on that ORC license announcement thread. It crashed the entire server because of the influx of traffic to it yesterday. As a patch, they managed to get the rest of the forums back up by dropping traffic trying to get to that comment thread.

I think Yasami can, at this point, outrun a LOT of things. And has okay stealth to sneak about.

I didn't want the group to end up with analysis paralysis, which we are probably bordering now.

Fern - I don't want a separate adventure branch. Don't want to be that player. Just let me know what rolls you want from me real quick, and let us know what I/we found. If anything at all, that is.

OK. I don't know how to answer Yasami's last question. And I don't know what time of day it is. Did we rest for the night already and the scouting was done in the morning? Or was the scouting by Yasami and Dario done in the evening before night fully fell?
