Discussion for tier 1-2 table of Fate in the Future for NostalgiaCon.

cmlobue |

Welcome!
To add this to your list of games, just post anything in Gameplay, then delete it immediately (this is referred to as "dotting in" because most people just post a period for the one they will delete). You can also make a regular post introducing yourself and interacting with other players, but the game itself will not start until the 10th.
I've also posted the sign in sheet under Recruitment.

cmlobue |

Please add your tokens, initiative and perception modifiers to the slides.
Each character gets one hero point, and anyone with a glyph may give a hero point to another character for each glyph (though no character may get more than one in this fashion).

Hi everyone !
Still on a learning curve for PbP on Paizo forums ! I found an old guide for text formatting and it looks like it's quite similar to PbD. However I was wondering how it worked for rolls ? Do we roll at home and write the results or is there a bot like on discord ?
Thanks for your answers :-)

Someone helped me out on Discord :-) All is clear now, I will post in the Gameplay section today !

I don't mean to presume, but do you have access to the the gunslinger class? I've been under the impression that it requires a boon to access it, since it's an uncommon class.
Edit: Huh, shows how much I know.

![]() |

Gunslinger is accessible to everyone. Sorry I'm late, it never occurred to me to check the spreadsheet if the table was linked... Other GMs were announcing their tables in the Recruitment thread and I was waiting for the announcement!
Anyway, nice to be here. If any of you have read books by Clive Cussler, you're bound to recognize my character :)

![]() |

You do still need to be from certain regions to access black powder weapons though.
From the Additional Resources: Character Options page for Guns & Gears:
- All Pathfinder Society agents have access to the Gunslinger and Inventor classes and archetypes.
- Inventors (and characters with the Inventor archetype) gain access to uncommon clockwork items and gadgets from Chapters 1 and 2 of this book, unless the item specifically states otherwise.
- Gunslingers (and characters with the Gunslinger archetype) gain access to all uncommon weapons, ammunition, and related items from Chapter 4 of this book, with the exception of Beast Guns and any limited or restricted items below, unless the item indicates otherwise.
- Characters with a Home Region of Absalom, New Thassilon, or Arcadia have access to uncommon clockwork items from Chapters 1 and 2, as inventors.
- Characters with a Home Region of Alkenstar, Dongun Hold, or the Shackles have access to all black powder guns, ammunition and related accessories; and all archetypes from Chapter 3 with the exception of beast gunner, fireworks technician, and spellshot. Characters from Alkenstar or Dongun Hold also have access to uncommon clockwork items from Chapters 1 and 2, as inventors.
- Characters with a Home Region of Tian Xia or Vudra have access to hand cannons and fire lances, associated ammunition and accessories; and the fireworks technician archetype.
- Characters with a Home Region of Arcadia have access to air guns, beast guns, non-black powder ammunition and accessories; and all archetypes from Chapter 3 with the exception of fireworks technician and demolitionist.
- Players who own a copy of the Goblin Fireworks Fight board game gain access to the fireworks technician archetype for all their characters. A copy of the game’s instruction booklet is sufficient to prove ownership.
- Characters with access to a weapon also automatically are granted access to basic ammunition for that weapon, if necessary (e.g. characters with access to a flintlock pistol also have access to firearm ammunition).

Yep Ace is from Alkenstar / The Impossible Lands !
My understanding was that we could choose any Inner Sea region at character creation ? Or maybe I misread the guide ?
If that's the case sorry, I'll grab the World Traveler Boon which seems to cover this option. But to me this boon was needed when one wanted to have access to several regional feats/items

cmlobue |

Before you leave, you should make a note of what items you took, both from mustering rewards and your school. You can just put it on your character sheet or tagline if you prefer, but you don't get to decide after you've left which one would be most useful.

![]() |

Reward: Each character chooses two of: owlbear claw, potency crystal, scroll of burning hands, scroll of true strike (you can choose the same item twice).
Mandoo can't use the scrolls and is very unlikely to ever use the talismans. If someone can make better use of them, let me know which you want Mandoo to pick. He'll happily exchange them for a lesser antiplague elixir.
Other than that, Mandoo will select the following:
Bonus Consumable: Healing Potion (Minor) (2)
Reward: Healing Potion (Lesser)
Reward: Antidote (Lesser)

![]() |

Dancing Sunbeam is taking the following:
School consumable: minor healing potion
Rewards: lesser healing potion, potion of antiplague, 2 potency crystals.

![]() |

Apologies for the late entrance! I was also waiting for a thread announcement in recruitment and didn't think to check the signup sheet. I will post in-game shortly!

![]() |

Bina will be taking:
Minor Healing Potion (School consumable)
Owlbear Claw x2 (from Ashahar)
Lesser Healing Potion (from Urwal)
Lesser Antidote (from Eando)

![]() |

Whoops. I just noticed that I had Mandoo pick up a Heal Scroll as his Bonus Consumable, not the 2 minor Healing Potions I mentioned previously (and which he isn't actually eligible for yet).
Since no one is taking me up on my talisman swap offer, Mandoo will claim two Potency Crystals from Ashahar in the unlikely case he actually uses his dagger to stab something.
So bottom line, here is what Mandoo is claiming:
Bonus Consumable: Heal Scroll
Reward: Healing Potion (Lesser)
Reward: Antidote (Lesser)
Reward: Potency Crystal (2)
All these items can be found in Mandoo's Equipment and Party Loot spoilers.

![]() |

Hey Apoc! How are you? Ready to come back to our original RR? :)

![]() |

Isaku is taking the following:
School Item: Minor Healing Potion
Rewards: Lesser Healing Potion, Potency Crystal (2), Lesser Antiplague
I will give my GM glyph to Dancing Sunbeam

![]() |

@Isaku: Oh hey! That still going? I dunno, possibly. Still don't have a lot of free time but I figured I'd squeeze in the new special! We'll see where I'm at after it's done. :)

Me rolling dice that you don't need to see, usually.

We've only done 2 games. I'm up next with 99-02.

I've dropped tokens onto the map for those who haven't already done so. I positioned Ace as per his post.
I'm assuming that the ovoid shaped panel to the right with the question mark is covering the ovoid-shaped chamber currently containing the sarcophagus as well as Mandoo and Libitina. If the ovoid-shaped thing in the middle of the room with the steps on either side is in fact the ovoid chamber in question (I was assuming it was the arch), then we'll have to move the tokens.
I saw that Igni was still listed on both slides 1 and 2, but that Bina Sevencloaks hadn't been added yet. I went ahead and replaced Igni with Bina as per the contents of her profile. Please check to make sure I didn't screw things up. We may have to shuffle the marching order, but given the makeup of our group, a swashbuckler pretty much qualifies as frontline.

cmlobue |

The oval with a ? is a room that is unrevealed for reasons that should be becoming clear in the Gameply thread...
And yes, the NPC gets a spoiler, which I assume her associated PC will read.

![]() |

Ok I changed Ace's behaviour based on the last post and I also changed my token's place to put in behind the platform on which stands the arch. That way Ace can take cover if needed and still be within his musket's first range increment.

![]() |

And yes, the NPC gets a spoiler, which I assume her associated PC will read.
Strictly speaking, Libitina is not an NPC. She's half of the PC known as Mandoo; the other half being the human summoner that goes by that name. They have a very tight bond; telepathic communication between them is constant and they routinely Share each other's senses so that keeping secrets from one another is practically impossible (not that they have any interest in doing so). What Mandoo knows, Libitina knows almost immediately, and vice-versa. I'll RP this communication because that's what I love to do, but in the absence of me doing so explicitly, one should assume that it is taking place regardless.
But they are two physical beings, each with their own senses, skills, and abilities. They can also act independently to a great extent (more so outside of encounters, less so during). I've been playing this by giving them each skill rolls when they are asked for, but if you would prefer to handle this in some other way, please let me know.

Nope, that's fine. I have PCs with various boons or class features that have their own aliases and personalities. I wonder how often people log in and see (7 New) and wonder what they missed, only to find out I was talking to myself.
It may work oddly in this instance. Mandoo did not touch the sarcophagus, so he should still be able to see it, even though he knows Libitina does not any more.

I know what you mean exactly. I create new aliases all the time, especially for my PC's familiars, but also for anything one of my spellcasters has ever summoned. RPing intelligent animals, unseen servants and zombies is a hoot. I even RPed one of my PC's riding ponies during one particular scenario.
Though I have created an alias for Libitina, I'm not sure that I'll be using it much. Mandoo and Libitina are so closely meshed and constantly communicating (not to mention sharing actions during an encounter) that splitting up their posts feels wrong somehow.

![]() |

As soon as Mandoo "touches" it, the same thing happens for him as it did for Libitina.
Did he hear the exact same words or just similar ones?
I'm trying to figure out if Libitina heard part of a complete message or all of an incomplete/degraded message. If Mandoo hears something slightly different from what Libitina heard, it might help us put together more of the complete message.
Sounds like he heard exactly the same thing, but no harm in asking.

cmlobue |

For the most part, I will be following the rule of two for these choices (i.e. once two people agree, unless there is an objections, that is the party's decision), especially since you are expected to follow most or all of the paths eventually.

![]() |

I will ask on this channel ! Thanks for your answer indeed I put my stealth modifier on the slide. Is the fact that Ace might be hidden to some statues is secret or can I have this information ? Either way I'll wait for the others to act before Ace does

cmlobue |

Ace can be hidden at the start of combat. Of course, what he does will affect how long he stays that way.

![]() |

I just checked and it turns out that Libitina doesn't get to roll for Initiative separately. She shares Mandoo's Initiative roll and position in the Initiative order. So rather than two lines in the order, it should more properly be a single line "Mandoo/Libitina" (or just "Mandoo"). As luck would have it, Mandoo and Libitina happened to end up next to each other in the order for this encounter, so we're good to go.
I updated the Initiative rolls slide to remove Libitina's line.

Ace, I notice that you are putting your out-of-character text within double parentheses. On the Paizo PbP boards we use the OOC tag which makes the text... ...look like this.
If you look below the text field for new posts towards the bottom of the web page you will see "How to format your text [Show]" If you click on [Show] it will list out all the tags you can use to format your text.
DH's Guide to Play By Post gaming is a good guide on how to use the tags to format your posts.

Thanks for the advice ! In my last post the ooc content should be in the correct format :-)

Maybe it isn't that important for this scenario, but one thing we've sort-of skipped over is what exploration activities we're using. From what I can piece together from stat lines, we have the following:
Ace Malaluna: Avoid Notice
Bina Sevencloaks: Scout
Dancing Sunbeam: ?
Isaku Beru: Scout
Kornel Pastovic: Search
Mandoo: Search
Libitina: Scout
We only need one person Scouting for all of us to get the +1 to Initiative; something which apparently wasn't taken into account for this encounter. We should probably just add it to the template. Since Libitina is Scouting, that means that Bina and Isaku can switch to something else maybe (Avoid Notice?, Investigate? Search?), or if they prefer not to, then I'll switch Libitina to something else instead (probably Avoid Notice).

So, a small formating question !
For critical damage is the convention to double the number of dices instead of doubling the roll, so that it can be coded in the text ?
And a rules question : it seemed to me that the precision damage from One shot One kill was also doubled on a critical ? Like sneak attack damage ? Not that it mattered for this first round...

You can always just have two damage lines, one with crit and one without, so your attacks would look something like this:
Pew: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Normal Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Crit Damage: 2d10 + 6 ⇒ (4, 7) + 6 = 17
And a rules question : it seemed to me that the precision damage from One shot One kill was also doubled on a critical ? Like sneak attack damage ? Not that it mattered for this first round...
It does appear that everything doubles on a critical hit, unless it was something that was added specifically because of the crit (like a deadly die).

The Damage rules have a section called Doubling and Halving Damage that covers what damage gets doubled. It is basically a long-winded version of that the GM summarized in his post.
