Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Kaseem uses his wand to heal himself further, sparing another glare for Tolwin.
"What else aren't you telling us boy? I'm in no mood for games or withholding information. What else did Feran or his mother tell you?"
As he's speaking to Tolwin, Kaseem walks back over to the tiefling Feran. "Would someone secure him? Or should I just beat him back into oblivion?"

![]() |

"We will help you if co-operate and do exactly as we order you to. If there is something you haven't told us yet, then say it now!" Daenerija nervously snarls

![]() |

"So, you are the bullies that attacked Kaseem and Kara, the Bloomgivers, and stole the golden dragon amulet."
He scowls at the kids and then steps forward as he looks them up and down. He shrugs, realizing these kids probably won't cause any more trouble.
"I don't think these kids will give us any trouble. Obviously, they are frightened by the people and creatures in that cave. Let's go check it out so we can put these kids' minds at ease."
He turns to Tolwin and Richelle.
"Just try to relax and stay here. We'll go check out the cave and get this mess all straightened out."

![]() |

"He is dying from blood loss." remarks Masa. "We were tasked with retrieving the children alive. Is there a need to save him? He is an evil-doer bent on the destruction of the town and the implication of Pathfinder offspring. Death is an easy release for one such as him. His dabbling in what is likely necromancy with this 'Mother' character would see him consumed by devils and demons alike."
Masa further explains. "I would see the man a clean death now, rather than a dagger in the back during the upcoming fight or his use as a hostage. There is some modicum of honor to death on the battle field and I shall grant it, if the party is in agreement."
Sheathing his blade after flicking the blood from the magical armament, Masa waits for the party to recover, offering his Wand of Cure Light Wounds to the party if they need it. After they have recovered, Masa states. "Let us proceed to the cave and dispatch the mother and her pet giant to save the jubilee and Highdelve."

You move to the cave entrance.
This rock face towers nearly 30 feet and is punctuated in the middle with the dark opening of a cave mouth.
As you enter, the dank scent of moss hangs heavy in the air as the gloom in the cave thickens. Some daylight filters in to the mouth of the cave (the entryway is in low-light), but the caverns receding deeper in on either side are completely dark.
please place your icon on the map. How do you want to deal with light, and what is your marching order/algorithm as you proceed into this cave?

![]() |

”We don’t know anything else! They just had some strange stuff with them that they stole they said. No clue what they were doing with that!!“ Tolwin says fast and in fear.
Sorry for the delay in posting but I would like to clear up a couple of points before proceeding to the cave. First, did/can anyone make the Knowledge (Local) check the GM asked for? Second, who else is down on HP and needs use of a Wand of CLW? And...
"What 'strange stuff' did they have with them? And did they say where they stole it from?"
May give us a chance at a Knowledge check plus we also were to look into reports of stolen shipments.

![]() |

If any of you want to roll knowledge(local) please do so.
No knowledge (local) here - at level 1 not even a wizard is trained in every knowledge skill... But maybe we can roll untrained?

![]() |

Masa will light one of his sunrods and wield his katana in the other hand. "I can take the lead." he offers.
No Kn. Local here.

GM Nowruz |

Earlier with Tolwin,,,
”Well, Gilda had a baton and two strings and herbs and a ring I think. And the amulet we … we … you know … “ he says shyly.
~
Now …
These cramped corridors smell like fungus and rot.
You can hear a violent thudding sound as well as muffled roaring coming from deeper within the cave.
Ridges on the map represent sloping passages downward. Squares that are sloped are difficult terrain. Are you taking your time and exploring the area, or moving quickly to find the creature?

![]() |

Earlier (with Tolwin):
"Masa, please use my rope to secure the tiefling. We may need him alive later - so he can be interrogated by Aurelliax."
I also thought we would include the tiefling in Kaseem's channel to stop him from dying. That way we won't have to spend ressources on him.
Now:
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13 I see nothing...
My vote goes to exploring the area first.

![]() |

Don't have Kn. local
"That little thug may know something valuable, so I'd have to agree with Kaervek on keeping him alive."
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
"This place smells as one might expect for a dank cave.

![]() |

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
If 'explore' you mean looking for traps, yes. Otherwise no since I don't think we want this ceremony to finish.
"I hear a violent thudding sound and a muffled roar coming from deeper within the cave. Perhaps the mother has already started the ceremony? I don't think we want her to finish it. Have you no light source Ezekial? How ironic that a paladin of Sarenrae doesn't have any light..."
Kaseem mutters more foul language in Osirion as he searches his backpack. Finding what he's looking for, Kaseem shoves a torch into Ezekial's hand.
"I carry them and I can see in the dark..."

![]() |

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
"Yes, I can hear it too. In fact, I can hear it very well. Let's just be cautious as we move through here."
Hawthorn arms himself with his bow and makes sure Kitty is nearby.

GM Nowruz |

After a minute of moving through the caverns and exploring, you hear the loud *snap* of a chain breaking, followed by a bellow of triumph and loud, thudding footsteps.
Suddenly, a large, two-headed beast comes into view, wielding a nasty-looking flail in one hand and holding the dead, crushed body of an aged woman in the other hand.
The two-headed giant is wearing a large pendant that you clearly recognize as the pendant that was granted by the dragon to the town of Highdelve.
But you also see that strange cords are attached to the amulet and it is blood-covered.
+++++++++
All over the Ettin’s body strange bloody runes are carved into its skin.
These are diabolic runes which could be used to protect giants from draconic beings with the right focus. And the amulet could serve as exactly that focus. Essentially, you assume that Aureliax would not have been able to protect the town as it would not have been able to harm this Ettin.

Ezekiel looks at Kaseem disdainfully, I was hoping for a magical or spiritual solution, not a mundane one. and he hands Kaseem an unlit torch from his own pack.
religion: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Dropping the torch Ezekiel surges forward, holding his buckler high over his head and his scimitar forward.

Knowledge: Arcana t: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
"These runes... they are diabolic! They will protect this giant from draconic beings with the amulet as a focus. I assume that Aurelliax will likely not be able to protect the town as the dragon is simply not able to harm this giant." (Feel free to open the spoiler.)
The wizard pauses for a moment, then continues.
"I also think the people of Highdelve are not equipped to fight this monster. So it falls to us to deal with this threat."
The elf waits a bit for his words to sink in. (delay action, but just after his comrades - so he can see what they are doing)
@Party: I am considering casting grease on the ettin (or his weapon), but the short range (25 feet) of this spell is very limiting. I would have to move down the stairs and ready an action for the moment when the ettin comes into range. Another option would be color spray, but the range is even more limited and there would most likely be collateral damage (15 feet cone)... :-/
Any tactical thoughts on those ideas?

![]() |

Kaseem calls upon the power of Wadjet to bless the party and then moves back.
Casting Bless: +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and saving throws vs. fear effects.

Either the Ettin's square or his weapon for Grease.

Kn. Arcana: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Daenerija whispers a spell, which doesn't produce any visible effects but some kind of force field can be felt around her. Shock shield
She also draws a wand from her pocket.

![]() |

@Ezekial: I do not see your token anywhere on the map. Did you move it according to your description? My actions depend on your current position...

![]() |

You're welcome. :-)
Kaervek moves down the stairs (move action) and uses his splintered spear ability (standard action) to create a wooden shortspear and fire it at the ettin.
Wooden Shortspear + Bless - Range: 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 1 - 2 = 6 Well, I tried... :-/
Piercing: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Unfortunately, Ezekial ran forward a bit too quickly, so grease as a readied action would not work. The Ettin simply does not need to come in the spell's range to flatten attack the paladin.
Kaervek cannot advance that fast - especially on these steep stairs!
Difficult terrain at level one is... difficult. :-(

With bow in hand, Hawthorn darts down the natural steps into the chamber with Kitty not far behind. He raises his bow and fires an arrow at the scary two-headed giant.
Longbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
cold-iron piercing: 1d6 ⇒ 2
"E-gads! That's a scary giant!"
He shouts after letting the arrow loose.
Kaervek, grease would be cool.

![]() |

On mobile, if someone can move my token.
The frontliner scowls as the enemy is so far away. "I will approach to take it down." offers Masa before he runs 60' closer to the beast.
Run Action.

Kaseem calls upon the power of Wadjet to protect him and then moves down the stairs.
Casting Shield, increasing his AC to 19.

Let's hope this works...
The wizard moves down the stairs (move action) and casts grease (standard action) on the ettin's weapon. (Reflex negates, DC 16)
"Thou shalt not pass! Wingardium Levio-sà! Drop the chainy-spikey-thing!"
using my 1/day Arcane Bond ability (bonded object: ring) to cast any spell in my spellbook
A bonded object can be used once per day to cast any one spell that the wizard has in his spellbook and is capable of casting, even if the spell is not prepared.

The Paladin channels the might of Sarenrae into his blade, focusing her will upon the two-headed giant. He glances at the dead woman, a tear forming in one eye as he pronounces his judgment upon the monster. The fury of righteousness damns you! You will burn in your guilt forever as the light of the un bares plain your crimes!
Smite Evil
Smite Evil attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
If he's not evil, that reduces damage by 1 and hit by 2. My AC is now 20 against the creature. Or I just missed....

![]() |

The dropped weapon is greasy for a whole minute. It's hard to pick up or to use (for any attempt one has to make a save).

![]() |

Hawthorn chuckles as the giant's weapon slips right out of his hand.
"Hahaha! Nice one, Kaervek!"
He congratulates his friend as he takes a step next to the wizard.
He nocks another arrow and lets it loose at the giant.
Longbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
cold-iron piercing: 1d6 ⇒ 3
"That amulet the giant is wearing may be affecting the damage my arrows do! Sunder that amulet from his neck by cutting off his heads, Ezekial!"
Hawthorn points at the weapon by the giant's feet then looks at his cat.
"Get weapon, Kitty!"
The big cat growls as he springs forward towards the giant and tries to snatch up the weapon with his teeth.
Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Well that was awesome.
I'm not using Kitty's profile for his posts anymore because I'm going to change his name after this scenario. I only have 1 post left and then I can no longer change the name.

@GM Nowruz: Shouldn't Masa get a turn before the Ettin? (The giant attacked - and missed - him last round. Especially as Kaervek's spell caused the (unarmed) Ettin to be unable) to make AoOs despite his reach (an exception would be if it has Improved Unarmed Strike).
And Daenerija has not yet acted this round either...

MROWR!!!
Kitty yelps in pain after getting jabbed in the rear end as he takes off with the large weapon clamped in his jaws. He high-tails it to Hawthorn's side.
"Good Kitty! Drop weapon."
Kitty drops the big morningstar at Hawthorn's feet. Hawthorn notices the large wound in Kitty's rear flank.
"Oh, no! You're hurt pretty bad. Let me take care of that."
He places his hand near the wound on Kitty and chants a blessing of healing.
cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Hawthorn looks at the wound in dismay.
"That's a bad wound. Sorry I couldn't heal it all the way."
He gives the cat a pat on the head.
Hawthorn: 9/9 hp
Kitty: AC 15, 6/12 hp
