Hello Everyone!

Hi all! Looking forward to this game!

Hello everyone! Nice to meet you and thanks for selecting me again, Nazard :) I had a bit of a rough night getting my son to sleep yesterday and was unable to stat out Kieran then, but I'll get to it somewhere over the course of the day. Very much looking forward to exploring this setting!

The gameplay thread is also available for dotting and deleting.

hello gents and ladies. Prepare to fall head over heels for me lol.

Working on filling out items/gear and the like. Still debating between a few archetypes, though Likely it will only come down to arcane duelist or not. and on what feats I will be keeping, debating between Dodge, improved Initiative, step up, blind fight, and a combat maneuver.

I may also end up taking a couple rogue levels, but thats a fair ways away.

Also, there were no profile images adequate enough to truly captivate Varian's flamboyancy, so please take a look at the link to the image I based him on for a better idea of both his look, and his character.

HP:13|BaB:1:|AC:17 T:11 FF:16 CMB/D:+5/15|Fort:4 Ref:1 Will:0|Init:1|Percep:0|Speed:20ft|

Is there anything we can do here while we wait? I know we don't know each other yet, so RP might be difficult.

Not really anything to do, other than finish up profiles.

I believe we have Varian, Grahm, and Marcus finished, and waiting on Thraag and Kieran.

Currently finishing up Kieran. He should be up in an hour or so.

This is Kieran's profile sans the background. He is the stranger in town for a reason!

I'll add his physical description when the campaign starts in the opening posts, and add that to his profile afterwards for reference.

A few minor things I wanted to ask about:

-I wanted to buy a map and compass for Kieran to compensate for his sight disability in getting lost. However, it seems a map costs a whopping 50 gold, whereas it provides no benefit except a +1 circumstance bonus to avoid getting lost. Meanwhile, a compass costs 10 gold, and provides double that same bonus in addition to providing an underground benefit. Can Kieran perhaps buy the map at 5 gold instead to reflect that it's more of a flavor item and only half as good at the compass?

-I had 28 gold left for buying trivia and other mundane utility items. Any recommendations for cool or useful utility things? I could make his spear coldiron and have 8 g left to start but wondering if there are cooler or more useful utility things to spend it on instead.

-Is there a recommendation for useful or prevalent languages? Kieran starts with Common and Elven and can select one more. Considering Sylvan atm.

Thraag is built and ready to go.

I did take some alternate Racial items. If you would prefer we not do that I will switch them back.

Alternate racial traits are fine by me

Nazard, I know we have a discord in the other game that we are in together, is that something you/we'd like to implement here?

I'd be in favor of a discord, makes communicating a lot easier and faster.

I am ambivalent on it. I don't check Discord all that often for anything so I am more likely to see discussion here on the boards.

I will say having a treasure tracking on Discord has been occasionally nice in other games I play.

The big plus of Discord for me is when combat happens, and folks can post on discord that they’ve taken their turn.

I love the idea that Varian is using this dog hunt as an excuse to look for the Shoanti woman, mostly. He'll keep his eyes out for the pooch too haha. Meanwhile, Grahm is totally full focused on searching for the dog.

She does, I just needed time to weave together all these threads y'all made in some coherent fashion. :)

I did not realize Valarian would want to talk to Brus. Thraag figured everyone else would be more interested in sitting in the carriage. And he didn't want to get stuck on the back with noodle arms and a lame leg.

When two or more are trying the same skill check where there’s only 1 success needed, like the Perception and tracking checks in the game thread, everybody can try the check, I’ll take the best result, and add 2 for each other person who got at least 10. I personally hate declaring one PC to make the primary check, who ends up rolling a 2, while the half-blind wizard rolls the natural 20 but was only on “aid another” duty. Anyone who’s ever helped someone look for a lost golf ball know how aiding a Perception check really works.

I also allow aid anothers on Knowledge checks if you’re free to communicate with each other.

Wanted to ask, it feels like this pbp has slowed down quite a lot, and it's been a week since the last GM post. Is everything all right, Nazard?

Sorry, yes everything is fine. I should have posted here that I’m a public school music teacher by trade and mid-December is my busy season (except now Omicron has shut everything I do down so I have time again).

Combat map link has been added to top of campaign. The light area is where the firelight reaches. The brown squares with triangles are trees. There is an error with the map in that one of the trees near the top looks like it's in the light but it isn't (should be dark). The sounds are coming from the northeast.

@Nazard, ah, thanks for sharing and no problem :) Real life comes first! Still, glad you're still with us.

Also, I have a few games on the go and sometimes when I'm waiting for players to sort themselves out I don't always realize when the sorting is finished. I'm never offended at little nudges.

That's good to know. I am sorry to hear your programs got shut down early. It would be a bit sad to put all that effort in and not get to enjoy the final project.

We were doing really well here, with only single digit cases per day, then one superspreader event happened and now we're getting 100+ per day.

I know that's not much compared to other parts of the world, but we've been so careful here that these numbers are scary.

I live in a college town with one of the nations largest colleges, our numbers are always high. Hopefully, your area has good vaccination rates.

86% with one dose, 80% with 2+. And yeah, it was a university event that triggered our outbreak, and sports tournaments that spread it.

Welcome to our first combat. As you can see, I roll initiative for the whole group, and similar monsters get grouped into a single initiative slot. The bold type in the initiative order means who is up next. When we get to a block of PCs who are up next, feel free to post in whatever order you can. If I'm online and see a combat post, I will usually try to adjudicate it then and there, even if it's not technically "the next person to act". In combat situations where you are free to easily communicate, I will assume that if you want a particular PC to move to a certain spot, you can request it and it will happen. After years of this, I've never had anyone overrule it and say "no, their character stays where they are", though if you have a reason to go to a specific spot, we can retcon things.

When we get into the situation where multiple folks target the same creature and one attack brings it down, I will always apply subsequent hits to alternate viable targets. If there are no other targets, I will use weapon melee or ranged attacks first, and so allow you to save your spells or consumables.

You should all be able to edit the map (it's harder on phones), and will see that the two boards (when they appear) have differently-coloured outlines, so you can identify them.

Also, I have added a document with group dice rolls to the campaign. Can everybody please check it to confirm that the numbers are correct? In going through all your sheets to get the data, I did notice a few errors: Marcus doesn't have his ACP factored in to his skills, and Thraag the Younger's Perception score is correct in the skills section but not the heading.

ACP? Marcus isn't wearing armor and he's carrying a light load. ?? Or am I missing something? The character is half-orc, but I'm just human....

Sorry, I meant Thraag the Younger again.

I must say, I find it hilarious how keen this group of first level townies are to protect the 2nd-level ranger from the dangers of the woods.

Hey, it was the best tactical position-probably! We wouldn't know that, and Kieran is mostly worried something bad WOULD happen to said ranger and that it would mess with his chances to achieve what he came here for :)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Oh I get it. It’s not like people come with Ranger 2 tattooed to their forehead. Plus, he’s a ranger 2 with a standard NPC stat array, so b chances are any one of you could easily take him.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

What? Doesn't everyone have a stat block tattooed on their forehead? And a hit point meter? LOL!

I remember asking once, or at least I think I asked- Would you be open to allowing inspired blade to work with the Estoc rather than the rapier?

That seems fine, as an estoc is basically an exotic weapon version of a rapier.

I see everything in the fest and equipment section says estoc, but the actual weapon entry on your sheet says rapier. You can change that.

HP:13|BaB:1:|AC:17 T:11 FF:16 CMB/D:+5/15|Fort:4 Ref:1 Will:0|Init:1|Percep:0|Speed:20ft|

We're still low level. A lucky crit from anything could lay one of us low, and that includes our ranger friend!

In my entire first year of playing D&D I had one character survive to second level. He died shortly after gaining second level!

I've found that PbP characters seem to survive a bit better. Possibly because people hate having their characters killed.... Too hard to create a character and get into a game? Hmm. ?? 1977 D&D was a much simpler game!

HP:13|BaB:1:|AC:17 T:11 FF:16 CMB/D:+5/15|Fort:4 Ref:1 Will:0|Init:1|Percep:0|Speed:20ft|

So I've been playing for around 11 years now, which incidentally means I started around 5th grade. A bit of a newcomer to the hobby by that metric :) None of my pathfinder characters died unless it was by virtue of my own stupidity, and I certainly made a lot of stupid decisions! I won't say that Pathfinder is more forgiving than AD&D, but... I just wrote a paper for a class which heavily drew reference from the 1980's Inferno module, and my word things are heavily skewed against the players, even at higher levels. Before they even get into hell proper, they are hit with flamestrike, exposed to the waters of Lethe, and attacked by gargoyles that are immune to damage from nonsilver or magic weapons with AC 2. In a setting where things like that are commonplace, I can see never surviving until second level, especially if you're playing an AD&D wizard!

M Half-Elf Oracle 1. HP 10/10. AC 17/f14/t13. Reach 10 ft. Att (DF active)+5 vs ac (+7 vs AoO), 1d8+3. Perc. +7. Init +3. CMB +1, CMD 14. Channel 1d6 0/3. Conditions: None.

I started d&d on fourth edition technically, where it was very, very hard to die. I'd say I was a stranger to such pains, if not for pathfinder, where my first character was pretty much blown up by an enemy knifemaster rogue in pfs play in my first ever adventure.

Good times, looking back. Serves me right for making a gullible paladin I suppose :)

I've played since around 2010. I've never had an actual character death. That said, I've played very little PFS.

I remember when it became AD&D! Added a lot to the available rules/options. Having a character die only meant that you had to roll the dice, figure out what the numbers would let you play. Fighter/Cleric/Thief/Wizard/Dwarf/Halfling.... We had basic equipment packs for whichever you chose. Then wait until the DM could 'walk' you in to join the team.

Lot more detail now!
