I'm going to claim Zakzak before Mandoo comes into the thread! I'm kidding of course...
Maaan! You almost had me going there. I was all looking forward to playing my first Goblin and all.

Zakzak |

I am also running a table of this as well! Also Scenarios finally dropped so we can prep and share pregens!
Thanks for sharing.
I'm going through the sheet for Zakzak and everything looks good except that his +1 Flingflenser has damage listed as 1d6 +1. I don't see where the +1 to damage comes from. The description for the Flingflenser only states 1d6 and being a non-thrown ranged weapon, it neither gets Str or Dex to damage. It does have the backstabber strait, so it gets 1 extra precision damage on flat-footed opponents, but that's not normally included in the standard damage specifier. Is this a typo or is there some firearm related rule that I'm missing?
The only other typo is that his General Feat is listed as Improved Initiative which is a 1e feat. The 2e version being Incredible Initiative.
Profile and tagline updated to match the character sheet.

Zakzak |

It seems to be a special set up for this scenario. Everyone else is dealing an extra point of damage with their guns but Booker who does 2. It could possibly be a way of balancing things?
OK, I'll buy it. Unless told otherwise I'll include the +1.
There is another oddity that I noticed...
Zakzak is a Way of the Pistolero Gunslinger, which means he gets an Initial Deed of Ten Paces, which triggers when you roll initiative and reads: You react to trouble with lightning speed, positioning yourself just right. You gain a +2 circumstance bonus to your initiative roll, and ....
But, he also has Incredible Initiative, which reads: You react more quickly than others can. You gain a +2 circumstance bonus to initiative rolls. At least I think he has Incredible Initiative as his Level 3 General Feat, but on the character sheet it is labelled as Improved Initiative.
What exactly is the point of wasting a General Feat to get a +2 circumstance bonus to initiative rolls when you get that for free as part of the Way of the Pistolero? The two bonuses don't stack, right? Or maybe it's a two-step process: (1) roll initiative and include the +2 of Incredible Initiative, and then once that is done, it triggers (2) Ten Paces which adds +2 to the initiative roll of step 1, but since it is a different action, the two bonuses to stack. Does that make any sense?
This makes me question what this Improved Initiative really is. Is it a typo, or is it a slightly different version of Incredible Initiative that somehow stacks with Ten Paces?
Right now it looks like a wasted General Feat to me.

GM Farol |

Just FYI, in the other one-shot that I played issues like the above were not uncommon. The scenario says that some adjustments can be done to the pregens and it should not imbalance the game.
Normally the same types of bonuses do not stack. Maybe it will be changed before the pregens are officially out as well as information about sanctioning.
Btw. I had a peek through the scenario and I don't think GM'ing it spoils any fun moments.

Watery Soup |

I should have brought this up earlier, but I don't own Guns & Gears.
I believe that I'm following the access rules, as this game is run in Campaign Mode, and I'm playing a pregen. I will look up description of my character's feats on the PRD.
If anyone has any concerns, I'm willing to (a) investigate further, and (b) drop if necessary.
I do intend to buy the book, eventually - I'll probably buy it for my kids for Christmas. I prefer the hardcover books so they can read them without being on the computer all the time.

Zakzak |

I put the question about stackable initiative bonuses on the rule questions channel of the Org Play Online Discord server and a couple of people agreed that Incredible Initiative does not stack with Ten Paces.
One of the answers also pointed out that Zakzak can't use the Ten Paces initial deed anyway because his Flingflenser is a two-handed weapon and Ten Paces only works with a one-handed firearm or one-handed crossbow.
So the way I see it now, Zakzak is a little broken. He has a wasted General Feat (Incredible Initiative), and his weapon of choice is specifically not designed for a Way of the Pistolero Gunslinger whose ablities are pretty much all centered on using a one-handed firearm or one-handed crossbow.
I guess I can play Zakzak the way he is (inefficiently) built, but if I had my choice, I'd make the following tweaks:
1) Replace Incredible Initiative with a different general feat (maybe Fleet or Toughness).
2) Replace his +1 Flingflenser with a +1 one-handed goblin firearm (maybe a Big Boom Gun or a Spoon Gun) better matched to his Way of the Pistolero.
Is there anyway that the GM might see his way to letting me do this?

I can't believe anyone here would be that uptight. Just play and have fun already! Plus, the character sheet spells out the new feats anyway.

Sedoriku |

Tarondor wrote:I can't believe anyone here would be that uptight.Probably not in this game, but in the PbP player pool in general ... *sigh*. :(
It's campaign mode most likely. There was no need to own the sources for the uncommon or rare features of the pregens in Sundered Waves. You shouldn't need to buy a book to try the character designs intended to show off the book. (I mean it has line about when the book comes out [which is wrongly stated as next week] after all.)
Yellow! Checking in now!
I'm going to claim Zakzak before Mandoo comes into the thread! I'm kidding of course, and have been contemplating making a Way of the Vanguard gunslinger so Booker Kaar is good for me.
I'll take Booker Karr. I'm fine with playing him the way he is.
Uh... I don't know what to say here. If you really want to play him that's okay but he'd be my top choice.

Sedoriku's Pregen of the Month |

I've got booker together, only thing that might be problematic is I have no idea what formulas he knows for his munitions crafting.

GM Farol |

Ok Chaps, few things that I learned along the way:
- +1 for the damage comes from the Gunslinger class description Singular Expertise
- From what I know you don't have to own Guns and Gears, I would prefer for it to be written, but I believe this one-shot is a way to promote guns and gears and convince you to buy it.
- Booker and Munition crafting - yeah I don't know what to say, pick 4 formulas for alchemical bomb and select 3 bombs that you would craft during daily preparation. I couldn't find anything called alchemical ammunition online, so I guess we are left with bombs ;)
- Zakzak - yeah :D
If they release revised versions of pregens before this weekend, maybe this will be fixed, if not, the scenario says:
'Before getting into the action, give each player a chance to become familiar with their character and backstory. Each character’s feats, skills, and equipment can be altered slightly without affecting play significantly, though this story is tailored to the presented characters and their firearms.'
So I would say go with your proposed changes. If you have some minor change that would impact your fun from that scenario without heavily tilting the balance, let me know.
With regards to timing. During this weekend I will be in mantrailing workshop. So most of Saturday and Sunday I will spend being in a forest practicing with my dogs (playing the game: let us find lost human beings by following their smell). I will post on Friday and then continue on Monday. From what I recall WaterySoup is out this weekend as well, which could work to his schedule.
Apparently, this scenario has some bugs, on top of that there is a gazillion of more skilled GMs with better perception skills running it. At the same time, I will try to make it fun, and educate you on the rules regarding firearms and such, so please be patient with me here.

Shoot! (ha ha) You're right. How did I miss that?

I bought the PDF when it came out, but then again, I'm a rich old fart with nothing better to spend my money (and time) on than playing Pathfinder. I also tend to travel a lot, so being able to carry my entire library on an iPad is great.

That's great. I will swap out the useless Incredible Initiative general feat with the Fleet feat for the extra 5' to speed.
Since Zakzak has a spare 13 gp, 9sp, he will spend 10gp on a Big Boom Gun, which seems to be a much more gobliny type of gun to me with better RP potential. He'll hold onto the Flingflenser as a secondary weapon, unless you want to limit him to just one gun. On paper the Big Boom Gun and the Flingflenser are very similar, so I don't think it'll tilt the balance at all.
Have fun this weekend, though "better you than me" on the whole mantrailing thing.

Zindarel Soup |

"better you than me" on the whole mantrailing thing
Absolutely.
I'm gone this weekend ... to a quiet hotel. Eating at fancy restaurants and probably reading books on a cold, deserted beach with my wife.

Sedoriku's Pregen of the Month |

Lol, 'Para gustos, los colores' as they say in Spanish.
But one day, when the post-apocalyptic world will be here. You may want to trail some revered GM among the lands of canibals. Then you will find me, and I will ask a steep price in PFS Scenarios! Dam dam dum...
Unless Japan/Asia suddenly develops a new landbridge to the Americas, I doubt I'd be anywhere near you to ask you to do that... But that would be a useful skill to have in those circumstances.

Zakzak |

I've been keeping an eye on the Head Shot the Rot product page and I see some discussion on how broken Zakzak is. Michael Sayre (a designer who works for Paizo), says:
I'd decided to fix him with Fleet/Big Boom Gun, but if the official fix is going to be Toughness/Spoon Gun, then I'll go with that instead.
There's also talk of Booker's melee damage ought to use the increased d6 damage die due to the reinforced stock.

GM Farol |

Yeah @Zakzak saw that. I am fine with fleet instead of thoroughness if you like it. Overall I don't think it matters much in this one-shot.
I added slides to the top, and I used the default images of the heroes. If you prefer to use your avatars, feel free to replace them. I flipped the map to have a different feel for others GM'ing this scenario ;)
As well as changed the beginning a bit, just to accommodate my 'slower start' and to get out of sync with other tables.
This one-shot says nothing about Hero Points, but I will assume that it follows the same rules as the society game, you start with 1 HP, and glyphs may grant more.

This is in Adventure mode meaning you set the rules for things like this. Personally the pfs rules work well, though.

Zindarel Soup |

I have two glyphs. Zindarel will give one Hero Point to her BFF Zakzak. The other will go to 1d2 ⇒ 2 Doc.

GM Farol |

Yeah so Splash: I think 3 out of 4 PC's here has a weapon with splash trait. Booker is in the 'worst situation' as his splash is 10ft wide. This matter never was raised at my tables, but I assume getting approval from fellow players. But I know you all, and I hope you do understand the situation that with the chosen weapons it will be hard to play your character not spraying at anyone.
At the same time, I also expect you to:
- Try to avoid it if you can
- Don't kill your allies who are dying with splash damage or bring them to dying.
============================
Another case, overall I try (maybe not super-hard but I do) to keep my tables PG-13. I think I am failing here, but at the same time: I know each and every one of you (at least your PBP emanation) and also this is a scenario where you fight Zombies, I am fine leaving the description of brain dripping to the floor, or undead eating corpses, but I feel like Zombies need to pop, especially with a rule where crit = head-shot = kill.
=============================
If any of the above is unreasonable, or you feel that it is a bit off, do not hesitate to either speak up or DM me to bring it to my attention.

Zakzak |

I think we're all over the age of 13 here (correct me if I'm wrong), and I've certainly seen (more than) my fair share of zombie films. I'm fine with written descriptions of exploding heads and dripping innards as long as it's done tastefully. :)
As to splash damage from our guns, I don't really see a way around it under certain circumstances, particularly close-quarters combat against zombies. I'll certainly try to avoid it if possible, and won't take the shot if it'll take down an (N)PC in the process, but I'm fine with taking and giving the occasional 1 HP of damage if the bad guys fare worse from it. Zakzak is a goblin after all; they're not exactly known for their self control, especially in encounter mode. He's more of a shoot first and ask questions later kinda guy.

Amara "Doc" Featherton |

I am many times past 13.
I think the adventure assumes that splash damage is going to be a thing and actually part of the fun, especially where Zakzak is concerned. I can see Doc (a healer, after all) taking pains not to hit anyone except in dire situations, but I can also see Zakzak peppering his allies in his excitement. I can also see Booker giving Zakzak an attitude adjustment at some point!
As for gore, I'm no fan of buckets of blood, but I signed up to this knowing it would include guns and the undead, so some gory description is just part of the deal. I'm sure your powers of description are more than adequate to the task, Farol! :-p
I think we're good.

Zindarel Soup |

I'm old enough to have played D&D Red Box, but would appreciate reasonable limits on descriptions - at some point, my kids may play, and I'd rather the forums assume everyone is underage rather than be surprised by it.
Zindarel is fine being splashed with damage, unless players show particularly bad judgement. I think she's going to be retreating to distance a lot, so it shouldn't come up too much.

Sedoriku's Pregen of the Month |

I'm going larping tomorrow, so I probably won't have time to sit down and post. If need be please bot me!
Also I'm fine with small amounts of splash damage if it helps take down a zombie.

GM Farol |

Hey folks, I have a question:
Would you be interested in playing a two scenario arc:
3-04 Devil Wrought Dissapearance
and
3-07 Locked Lodge
Both are 3-6 scenarios taking place in Cheliax. I want to try to run higher-tier scenarios (higher than 1-4 ;)), and I thought you might be my guinea pigs :P.
Let me know what you think.

Sure! I have one PC in that range, the fighter/medic Hornbori.
I'm hoping to find employment for my 8th-level wizard at some point, too.

Yeah, I know that one ;) Lvl 8 wizard as well, but if you plan on waiting for me to run lvl 8 game you might wait for a long time ;)
Leaving a link to the 3-04 Thread

Zakzak |

Sounds interesting. Looks like 3-07 isn't available until Dec 15th.
I have Jayma, level 4 sorcerer blaster, who's originally from Cheliax but escaped when things got hot too for her. She avoids Cheliax like the plague in case she's recognized and assassinated. She could be convinced to go back to Cheliax undercover for a mission.
In that range, I also have Haechi, level 3 wizard blaster, and Mimi de Valence, a soon-to-be level 3 swashbuckler once she finishes a quest she just started.
Do you want us to sign up now for 3-04 on your thread?

Watery Soup |

I'm interested, but I do have a few logistical questions.
1. I briefly heard that the whole season is split up into 4-ish arcs, and I've considered splitting up my characters so they all have related Chronicles. But I can't find a list anywhere. Does anyone know if the arcs are split by level? (I rather not a level 4 character end up leveling out of level 1-4s later in the season, but if it happens, it's not the end of the world.)
2. I've got multiple characters in the 3-6 range:
- Aktuh, investigator (forensic) 6
- Emdi, champion (archer) 5
- Potipher Perkins THAT'S MRS. PERKINS TO YOU, witch (healer) 4
None have a strong connection to Cheliax and none have plans.

GM Farol |

@WaterySoup the best that I have is Pathfinder wiki you can see some of the arcs there. Arc for Cheliax is only 2 scenarios (this is what the description claim) and they should be played in that order by one PC.
@Palandri - yeah I will be running 1 scenario after another, so I prefer if you sign up with 1 PC ;) You might have read that I will run 2 in parallel which is not the case. You can discuss which PC to take in the 3-04 discussion thread.

Sedoriku's Pregen of the Month |

The only character in range I would have free is Symeon. My other Ranger dwarf is going to get power leveled from GM boons to 7

Amara "Doc" Featherton |

Just FYI: Regarding Head-Shot the Rot, I'm having Doc make tactical decisions, but not really offering opinions on what should be done next because I'm GMing the game myself. I know what's optimal, what's hidden and who's up to what badness.
So it's not that I'm not interested, just purposefully playing dumb.

GM Sedoriku |

I am also GMing two tables of this, so I also know all that jazz.

Sedoriku's Pregen of the Month |

As most of you probably know from other tables, I got knocked out for a few days there by a bad sinus infection that sapped my energy for posting. (And of course part way through catching up on the boards the Paizo site starts throwing error messages.) Sorry for holding things up and I hope everyone had a good weekend.
