I'm still here :)

I'm not very familiar with Golarion, I mostly play home-brew stuff. After reviewing some of the pathfinder wikis, I'm now leaning towards a cleric of Asmodeus. I'm also not familiar with Rappan Athuk except by reputation, but it sounds to me a bit like The Temple of Elemental Orcus Evil, in which case I think a more versatile spell selection and better non-magic combat options might prove more useful than *FIRE!* in the long run.

I’ll be working on it over the week and willl have a complete submission posted by the 24th, but my current idea looks something like this:

Vague Build & Background:

LE Aasimar Cleric (Mendevian Priest) of Asmodeus 6
S 14, I 13, W 18, D 13, C 14, Ch 14
Domain: Trickery/Greed Subdomain
Traits: Armor Expert (Combat), Beacon of Faith (Faith)
Feats: Alignment Channel/Chaos (from archetype), Toughness, Selective Channel, ???

Raised in Cheliax, X joined the church at a young age. Due to their heritage they were groomed for field missionary work and sent with a small delegation to Mendev for training in physical combat against demonic forces and social combat against good-aligned skeptics.

Now fully trained, they've chosen to undertake the exploration and eradication of Rappan Athuk to build their reputation in the area, with the goal of attracting worshippers through fame and an innovative religious multi-level marketing scheme. Their long-term goal would be to establish their own permanent church of Asmodeus in the area.

Would plan to take Leadership feat at 7th or 9th. Thinking cohort would either oversee followers and craft at home-base area if one exists, or be a tag-along buffer if campaign is completely dungeon-focused.

@Wyran Zuranan: Nice! I like how Wyran kind of stumbled into being a shaman rather than seeking out the spirits. Reminds me of the old fairy tales where a kind-hearted hero helps an animal in trouble and it turns out to be both intelligent and magical. I am wondering where the rest of his latest group is, though. Did they chicken out upon hearing just how big Rappan Athuk is?

I've never seen the monk/shaman combo, but since both work off Wis, I can see how it would work. Basically a shaman who fights unarmed. Not sure how useful the Heavens spells will be against undead, but it will be nice to have a mostly full divine caster.

@Tick: good start. I'm not sure I'd take the greed subdomain over the standard trickery domain, especially in a caster with only one domain. The invisibility spells you give up are all replaced by spells that are already on your class list (and not spells you want to cast every adventuring day). For that last feat you could take channel smite or furious focus.

So not to metagame too much, but Rappan Athuk is a tomb so expect undead, lots of undead and of course other stuff. Is a LE Aasimar Cleric (Mendevian Priest) of Asmodeus able to channel positive energy?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Evil clerics have 2 major problems
1)no positive channel to harm undead or heal allies
2)no spontaneous healing spells. So if they're going to heal at all those spells have to be prepared seriously reducing the flexibility of their spells

Silver Crusade

Dotting in. Cleric seems like a good choice... Slayer or Ranger are others... also have a couple other ideas. Will look over what others are planning to help narrow it down.

Silver Crusade

After looking through the thread. It seems alot of my none divine casting ideas have more or less been submitted. As such, a divine full caster it is. Just have to pick exactly what cleric style I'll be going for. Likely a battle cleric focused on support with some self buffing.

Leaning desna, with her divine fighting style. The other idea was a channel based cleric (blossoming light)

Blossoming Light is an interesting choice especially with aasimar fcb. My concern with them is survivability. They lack armor like arcane casters but don't have the same defenses... Mage Armor, Mirror image, invisibility etc. I've never seen one in play and would be curious to see how it works out

Silver Crusade

The only other time I played blossoming light I was allowed to mix it with angel fire apostle. It worked rather well. But we only got to level 7. The character was a pacifist sort, only harming those his channel could hurt. His spells were support and a summon at spell level 3.

I'd like to to combine Herald Caller with Blossoming Light but both alter armor proficiency so that's not allowed by RAW unfortunately

Silver Crusade

The idea would certainly to be a backline character. at level 6 with sun/glory domains that would be 3d6+9 to harm undead. With no channel resist and an increased DC of 2.

If we can craft items before we start, I could bump it by an additional 2d6 with a phylactery. It's not the greatest. But it's an AoE and does decent damage on a failed save.

I may not go this route though. As I do prefer self sufficient characters.

I will withdraw Kranken. I just got into another game.

A fair point. I really like the concept of the Greed subdomain replacement power, but in practice it probably doesn't come up very often. Also for best effect would require decent Spellcraft, plus there's the wonkiness of immediate actions in pbp.

Honestly I may drop the archetype altogether. I'm enamored with the heavy armor proficiency and alignment channel, but now thinking the armor may not be worth it.

Obviously still a work in progress, but I'm pretty sure I'd like to play an Asmodean.

My plan was to prepare 1 or 2 of my highest level healing spells for emergencies and carry wands for out-of-combat healing. I'm generally of the philosophy that I should be able to find something more effective to do in combat than heal an attack or two worth of hit points.

@DM of Graves.
Changed my hexes. Realized the build was useless against undead....

I'm still working on my cleric. Going support route as need to use too many feats to make archery work well. I was considering ecclesitheurge to toss out +2 bonuses but was concerned about not having armor similar to blossoming light character. Will we be able to craft pre-game?

@AGamer70: no crafting pregame. There may/will (depending on the party's actions) be down time to craft in game.

@Wyran Zuranan: there will be lots of other enemies besides undead, but it is a safe bet there will be undead.

@Everyone: if you can find a link to a picture you think looks like your character, that would be cool.

Grand Lodge

This is the Alana Kelsh from the older game, she will be the same, I will just update her stats if accepted into the game.

Grand Lodge

I seriously don't need another game right now, but this looks to be an awesome group, and I will be sad to miss it! I was so tempted to put in a character anyway, but I know I don't have time for another game. Have fun!

this is what he'll look like once he's had a chance to craft his own adamantine fullplate. For now his armor is less ornate

Headshot of Jolis Caliean

I have made Britta Karan Hasfred for this game. I hope you enjoy the read. I've just got some fine tweaking and minor equipment to buy.

Liberty's Edge

Neat. I've been wanting to do a paladin of Shelyn for a few months now, this seems like an ideal adventure for that. The daughter of a nypmh and a human painter, delving into the dungeon to smoosh bad guys and recover lost works of art for her goddess.

Mechanically, A Virtuous Bravo archetype Paladin 5/ Sentinel PrC X. Combines a reach weapon, Lunge, and Combat Reflexes to punish enemies that try to approach. Heart of the Fey and Fey Foundling to get the appropriate half-fey feeling.

"@Dungeon Master of Graves: How would you rule Bladed Brush works in regards to the Agile weapon enchantment or the Slashing Grace Feat?

Bladed Brush:
You can use the Weapon Finesse feat to apply your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier to attack rolls with a glaive sized for you, even though it isn’t a light weapon. When wielding a glaive, you can treat it as a one-handed piercing or slashing melee weapon and as if you were not making attacks with your off-hand for all feats and class abilities that require such a weapon (such as a duelist’s or swashbuckler’s precise strike).

As a move action, you can shorten your grip on the glaive, treating it as though it lacked the reach weapon property. You can adjust your grip to grant the weapon the reach property as a move action.

Agile:
A character with Weapon Finesse can apply her Dexterity modifier to damage rolls with an agile weapon in place of her Strength modifier. This modifier to damage is not increased for two-handed weapons, but is still reduced for off-hand weapons. This weapon special ability can be placed only on melee weapons usable with Weapon Finesse.

Slashing Grace:
Choose one kind of light or one-handed slashing weapon (such as the longsword). When wielding your chosen weapon one-handed, you can treat it as a one-handed piercing melee weapon for all feats and class abilities that require such a weapon (such as a swashbuckler’s or a duelist’s precise strike) and you can add your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier to that weapon’s damage. The weapon must be one appropriate for your size. You do not gain this benefit while fighting with two weapons or using flurry of blows, or any time another hand is otherwise occupied.

On one hand, Bladed Brush lets you use Weapon Finesse with a glaive. On the other hand, the glaive isn't technically a finessable weapon.

On one hand, Bladed Brush lets you treat the glaive as a 1-handed slashing weapon for all purposes. On the other hand, Bladed Brush doesn't technically free your off-hand.

Thoughts? Dex-to-Damage isn't a huge deal with this build, most of the damage will come from other places, so your ruling on this won't make or break the build. Thanks in advance.

Sovereign Court

I ran half of The Slumbering Tsar before Covid and I'm planning on getting my group through the rest of it, so I'm really interested in this in the "oh god why would I do this to myself" kind of way.

Dotting for now. Gotta check out everything so far. First thought is an Evangelist Cleric, but who actually knows when the time comes.

@Crischild: no problem with slashing grace working with bladed brush. I feel like that's what was intended and it just got caught up in a technicality.

@SmooshieBannana: nice arcanist.

@GM: Aww, thanks!

So finding images is difficult for me because I build the characters in my minds eye, then never find anything that's perfect. With Ting this is exacerbated by the fact he wears goggles to improve disable device. I probably should just start drawing my own characters like I did when I played in college. But who has the time for that, right?

Anyway, I tend to build the character then give them some physical resemblance to the Icon I select. So having looked through both Tengu and Kenko images; Ting is best described an amalgamation of these three images. the hat, the goggles and the overall attitude

For now, I think THIS was the closest image I could find to my idea of Tessai. I like it :D

@DM of Graves: I figured there would be monsters other than just undead. But I didn't want to be completely useless against undead, and the change works on other stuff as well.

I changed the avatar picture. This one looks more like I think Wyran would look. His eyes may be green but they don't glow!

I'm having significantly more trouble than I thought finding a jolly male elf.

It seems the three expressions I can choose between are smug, dour, and stepped on a Lego.

Yeah, you can occasionally find a neutral-faced and use theater of the mind and your roleplay to show how jolly he is. Or you can take that neutral-faced one and can photoshop a smile on him hah, or photoshop a smiling human's ears (maybe easier).

Waves back!

I'm actually working on a dhampir LE antipaladin tyrant with the Oath against Chaos to get smite chaos (approved by DM).

Basically an undead-resistant chaos smiting hellknight of the pyre focused on wiping out the cult of Orcus and any other heretical faiths that may fester in the Rappan Athuk.

Might be done tonight, but we'll see.

I know what you mean. I often scold past me for not spending thousands of hours practicing so we could make our own character art. Past me is just... a disapointment.

Anyways, this will be the profile for my paladin of Shelyn. I've got the stats part down, will do the backstory probably tomorrow night.

For the time being I've abandoned my Sentinel PrC idea. The build is feat heavy and there were no bonus feats in my build, so I've tabled that for now. I ended up taking a single level of fighter just for the bonus feat. Combat Expertise is a pretty good feat when you get it for free, and even better when you have Combat Stamina, so the level of fighter actually does quite a lot for the build. The current itemization is the standard "big six", but I'll probably change her starting items based on the final group composition.

This would be my Avatar for this campaign.

Accidentally deleted my post instead of editing the url correctly. Isn’t that nice.

Praetorix here is a LE antipaladin, yes, but that stems from her being willing to do what is necessary to protect the masses from the corruption these vile cults spread. Called to Mendev by her order, she has arrived to put an end to this cult of Orcus, with mostly violence.

Her appearance inside of her specially crafted Hellknight armor.

Combat role is a reach tank with the ability to survive a lot of different things. Very high survivability.

Don’t worry, she’s not a PC killer. Her Tyrant code lets her work with people of any alignment, as long as they help fulfill her ultimate goal: purging heretics from this plane of existence.

Just an updated alias for the most current version of Tessai.

Thanks Tarandor! That actually does me quite nicely.

I'll go with this fine gentleman for Ivy's picture.

I'll stick with the picture on this profile.

Well folks it looks like were getting down to it. Good luck everyone!

DMoG (I hope you don't mind if I abbreviated that) thanks for running the game! we players really appreciate it.

@Everyone: Recruitment will close at midnight cst on the 24th. I'll do some reading on the 25th on any new profiles and make some announcements.

Over the last few days I've been playing the Wrath of the Righteous computer game and I've gotten seriously lost in the weeds on potential character builds. I keep wanting to start over with new cool builds I've read about and now I'm thinking about them in terms of this game. My current favorite is: The Untouchable Tank.

Wow, it's really hard to find duskwalker art. I couldn't find any that looked like my vision of Liatris wearing armor. This picture is the closest I could find. Liatris relaxing at home, I guess.

All of Liatris' gear is now bought and her sheet is complete! It's on this profile if you want to take a look.

@Tarondor: people will be able to try out multiple characters during the course of the game if they choose not to get resurrected when they die ...
