Moments later, the sounds of baying hounds heralds the arrival of ash-gray beasts, striding on air, several inches above the ground and water at the northern edge of the combat area! Stealthily coming out of the burning woods to the west are three scaly archers as well, sharp axes hanging on their belts!
As with the previous wave, you were not detected in your defensive positions, meaning the enemies closed to their current positions without taking cover.

Ready... the ancient elf thinks.
those archers look cool :)

Seeing the hounds walking in the air, the goblin thinks they are so most dangerous ones, as they can pass the river. So he casts a cold spell towards the orange, as cold as his welcome to them.

Botting Merisiel
Out of her optimal firing range, the elf rogue still tries to take some shots to the west to slow the enemy archers' approach while you concentrate on the hounds. She fires at the blue enemy twice then attempts to hide in the underbrush again!

Okh fires a ray that hits the orange hound, but his tree is out of range to takes its programmed actions.
Kyra's divine lance succeeds at striking the same hound, only because she enhanced her spell with Guidance!
Kyra's tree also blasts the orange hound! Because there were no survivors from the first wave and you were not detected as this wave approached, this catches the hound flat-footed, making the tree's blast a critical hit!
Track 06: Combat: Smoke & Ash - Never Look Back
The Yellow hound holds still and tilts its head back, unleashing a baying cry that emanates 300 feet around it! All non-fiends must make a DC 20 Will Save or become Frightened 1. This effect has the auditory, enchantment, fear, and mental traits.
The three hunters all advance. The red and blue ones narrow their gaze, Hunting Merisiel as their Prey, then taking shots at her!

Post took me a bit with the paizo site crashing on me twice plus having to do a bunch of math in the middle, sorry about that.
Okh's tree strikes the blue hunter, dealing full damage!
The goblin then ignores the baying and critically hits the orange hound, killing it! Okh is then able to take cover in the underbrush, becoming hidden.
Kyra becomes Frightened 1 by the baying, and is unable to find a suitable spot to hide, although the underbrush does provide cover from ranged attacks.
Her tree fires at the closest target - the yellow hound, but misses.
Track 06: Combat: Smoke & Ash - Never Look Back
The Yellow hound snarls and runs towards the closest target it can see - Kyra! Fortunately for the cleric, though, she picked a spot just far enough that the hound has to spend the whole round striding!
Not wanting to give up an easy target, the red hunter narrows its gaze, hunting prey on Mesa, firing at the valiant bird!
Red composite longbow: 1d20 + 15 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 15 - 2 = 33 (...seriously?)
Piercing Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Precision Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3
(28)
Deadly: 1d10 ⇒ 2
Okay, so...I know the errata for this only went up recently, so I'm not going to ding you for this if my assumption is correct...but I can only assume you chose Mesa as a divine ally animal? If so, that's not a viable option in PFS, unfortunately, but as I said, not gonna make you change your character mid-combat. Instead, I'm going to use what you've got here.
Young animal companions have ancestry HP plus 6+Con per level. You're level 5, birds have Con +1, and 4 ancestry HP, so (7x5)+4 = 39hp. Mesa also uses your level for calculating AC based on proficiency (trained), so AC = 10+Lvl(5)+T(2)+Dex(3) = 20.
Red composite longbow: 1d20 + 15 - 2 - 5 ⇒ (5) + 15 - 2 - 5 = 13
Piercing Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
The second shot goes wide.
The blue hunter draws a battleaxe from his belt, designates Mesa as hunted prey, and swings!
Blue battleaxe: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30 (...sigh)
Slashing Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Precision Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 6
Mesa drops to the ground, dying 2.
The pink hunter loses sight of Okh and advances, provoking an attack of opportunity reaction from Merisiel's tree!
Lash Out: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31
Bludgeoning Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Because the hunter didn't know this tree was a threat, this attack catches him flat-footed and is a critical hit!
Now angered, the pink hunter advances right up to the red tree and draws his axe.

The brown tree stirs, sensing corruption, lashes out while avoiding Merisiel and her tree.

Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 6) = 15
The goblin casts an electric arc upon pink and yellow before to move on.
Damage: 3d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3, 2) + 4 = 10
Reflex DC 21

Kyra cleric 5 |

Kyra heals Seleneth.
Heal, 2 actions, healing hands: 3d10 + 24 ⇒ (3, 5, 8) + 24 = 40
And Kyra's tree blasts the hound.
Water blast: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Water blast,reroll: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 1) = 6

![]() |

Okh casts electric arc between the hound and hunter...
Pink Reflex: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19 (10)
Yellow Reflex: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27 (5)
Pink is unable to dodge, meaning Ukh's electricty kills it!
The goblin's tree blast then slams into the hound for full damage! (15)
Kyra brings Seleneth back from the brink (40/66hp, Wounded 1)
Her tree then heroically critically strikes the hound! (12)
Merisiel runs around behind the red hunter before trying to stab with rapier and dagger!
+1 striking rapier: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23
Piercing Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 1) + 4 = 8
+1 striking dagger: 1d20 + 14 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 14 - 4 = 22
Piercing Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (1, 2) + 4 = 7
Both strikes hit, but without a flanking partner (red is just outside of her tree's reach), she has no precision damage to apply).
Updated status:
Seleneth (brown tree) (40/66hp Wounded 1 / 1 damage)
Mesa (0 hp Dying 2)
Yellow Hound (42 damage)
Pink Hunter (DEAD)
Red Hunter (15 damage)
Seleneth and Mesa are still up!
Map is updated!

It won't change the outcome, but does a champion count as her own ally in regards to liberating step?
Will: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Mesa: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Edit: ninja'd!

![]() |

After a visit from the divine, Seleneth wakes up with a prayer, "Thanks to the glorious Saranrae."
He stands up, pulls and pushes his weapon. Pull from its sheath, and pushes it into the hound.
The hound has taken the bait, and the tree grasps for the abyssal enemy!
elven sword: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (14) + 14 = 28, shwincct: 2d8 + 1 ⇒ (8, 4) + 1 = 13
Hound needs a Reflex.
Is the hound that bit Seleneth adjacent to him? If not third action will be a move (to Mesa? Kyra?)

![]() |

Unfortunately you don't count as your own ally, as I learned when bringing my own champion up in level. CRB 455: "Some effects target or require an ally, or otherwise refer to an ally. This must be someone on your side, often another PC, but it might be a bystander you are trying to protect. You are not your own ally. If it isn’t clear, the GM decides who counts as an ally or an enemy." Sorry ^^
Also you are correct that I forgot to move the hound on the map - it was adjacent to you prior to your actions.
While Mesa slips closer to Pharasma, Seleneth wakes up and gets to his feet, landing a critical hit and ending its life!
Seleneth's tree no longer has any enemy targets.
Because he is injured and the last enemy standing, the red hunter takes all of his actions to stride and flee the battlefield. Resistant to the fire, he is able to move through the burning terrain that would grievously harm you were you to follow.
Merisiel drops her weapons and runs over to Mesa.
Medicine First Aid: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
With quick-thinking, the elven rogue is able to stabilize Seleneth's companion, leaving the battlefield clear. You are now all out of combat!
Whew!
Current Status:
Kyra (31 damage)
Okh (15 damage)
Merisiel (2/56hp Wounded 1)
Seleneth (40/66hp Wounded 1)
Mesa (0 hp Wounded 1)
Well done, all! Next GM post coming shortly!

For quick thinking keeping your party alive and in the fight, Kyra and Merisiel each gain one Hero Point!
Track 07: Taking Stock - Find Your Way
The sounds from the Farheaven camp suggest that you took on the brunt of the second wave, but that the danger has passed for now. Sarkorian druids encourage you to leave your trees here as a bulwark in case of a surprise attack but otherwise return to camp to recover your strength. The Farheaven warriors are wounded and tired, but strangely exhilarated and upbeat. According to some of the older veteran fighters, who remember the endless waves of demons pouring from the Worldwound that originally drove them from their lands, this relatively sparse attack feels much more winnable.
You are guaranteed 1 Hour of rest.
During this time, you can heal and refocus (10 minutes for a medicine check or to refocus if not using magical healing), or you can move about the camp assisting the Farheaven leaders. Interacting with each of the following NPCs takes 20 minutes each, and each PC cannot interact with the same NPC more than once.
Art updated for 3/5 of these leaders
Ceneviel:
The elf druid Cenenviel, a longtime ally of the Farheaven Clan, examines the length of the charred land and how the ritual is actively restoring it. A PC can assist the druid with a successful Athletics, Forest Lore, or Survival check.
Dolok Darkfur:
Dolok Darkfur has been maintaining the ritual for some time and could use some assistance to allow him to rest for a moment. A PC can help the Farheaven god with a successful Nature, Occultism, or Sarkoris Lore check.
Dragbog:
Chief Dragbog of the Dragonskull goblins struggles with writing a new song that captures the tricks of how to fight fire demons. A PC can help inspire him with a successful Demon Lore, Performance, or Society check.
Jaldan:
The young centaur Pathfinder reinforces weak points in the Farheaven camp with various traps and snares. A PC can help her complete her work with a successful Crafting, Scouting Lore, or Thievery check.
Nelket:
God caller Nelket tends to the wounded and frightened Farheaven noncombatants. A PC can support her work with a successful Diplomacy, Medicine, or Herbalism Lore check.
GM Note - Lore DCs are slightly lower than normal skill DCs as a reward for PCs who are specialized.
The whole party has 1 hour to rest, recuperate, and render assistance. Feel free to roleplay and decide what you would like to do!

With Mesa currently stable, Seleneth turns to his allies. "If anyone still suffers from the hounds' baying I can help." He speaks softly,
not wanting to disturb the injured hawk in his arms.
Is the hounds fear effect reduce each round? If not, the mercy feat can counteract a fear effect with lay on hands and that would be the first target of the spell. In an hour I can lay on hands six times for 18hp each (keeping one for combat). I can treat wounds each of us for 2d8 (or more) in that time as well.
"Then I would like to work with the Dragonskull Chief or give Dolok lDarkfur a break."
Seleneth's preferences, though he can attempt at least one of the checks for each of our hosts, if we want to spread out our efforts. I think lay on hands makes more sense OOC. Thoughts?
Ketephys
And his Edicts: Hunt and kill demons and undead, maintain the health of the forest, provide for your community.

![]() |

Yes, the fear reduces every round, so it will be gone on its own.
That said, "maintain the health of the forest, provide for your community." totally fits what you're doing to help the Farheaven clan, so you can totally double-dip there!

![]() |

![]() |

Once my wounds will be treated I can go to help Dragbog and Jaldan or Nelket.
Is it better to help twice the same one or to help two different ones?

![]() |

During this time, you can heal and refocus (10 minutes for a medicine check or to refocus if not using magical healing), or you can move about the camp assisting the Farheaven leaders. Interacting with each of the following NPCs takes 20 minutes each, and each PC cannot interact with the same NPC more than once.
Just as a reminder.

Kyra cleric 5 |

The clerical woman begins to patch his companions.
She has ward medic, so 2 patients at a time
After ten minutes:
Medicine. Treat wounds. DC 20. Seleneth: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
Damage healed: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (1, 6) + 10 = 17
Medicine. Treat wounds. DC 20. Okh: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
Damage healed: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (6, 3) + 10 = 19
After another ten minutes:
Medicine. Treat wounds. DC 20. Kyra: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22
Damage healed: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (8, 4) + 10 = 22
Medicine. Treat wounds. DC 20. Merisiel: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30
Damage healed, crit: 4d8 + 20 ⇒ (8, 3, 7, 6) + 20 = 44
So I think after 20 minutes for me:
Merisiel: 10 damage, no more wounded
Okh: 0 damage
Seleneth: 26 damage, wounded 1
Kyra: 9 damage
Next 10 minutes:
Medicine. Treat wounds. DC 15. Mesa: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19
Damage healed: 2d8 ⇒ (4, 7) = 11
Mesa, 11 hp no more wounded
Then I go to meet with Nelket to help with treating wounds of wounded fighters.
Medicine. Treat wounds: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25
So after 50 minutes. I don't know if I can still do something for 10 minutes.

![]() |

After being patched and having refocuses, the goblin goes to help Dragbog writing a song to give courage to the fighters.
Performance: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25
And them he goes to help Jaldan to install some traps around the camp.
Thievery: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

![]() |

Let me save you ten minutes Kyra I will use Lay on hands on Mesa. "Please help the Sarkorians, I think Mesa will not see any more battles today."
Seleneth seeks the aid of Ketephys and heals the hunting hawk. (18hp) Then he relaxes under the skilled hands of Kyra. After which he is able to send the magic toward Merisel, removing the rest of her wounds. cast, recover/treated wounds. First 10 minutes.
The feather haired-elf then goes to meet with the feathered bear. "Please show me what you are doing here, Friend Dolok Darkfur, and let me aid you while I can."
Nature: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25, He prays to Ketephys as he restores the guardian wards. Partway through the ritual Seleneth feels The Hunter's favor filling him again and uses it to close the his remaining wounds.
recover while protecting the community from demons. Second 10 minutes.lay on hand himself (free action)*not sure that casting a spell partway through the ritual is doable? finish protecting the community from demons. 30 minutes total. If not, I will skip healing myself...
Before going to the goblin to learn new techniques about defeating the demons, Seleneth visits Kyra and uses the magic to heal her.
"Greetings Chief, may I offer you some help with your song. Fighting demons is something my order specializes in."
Society: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11hmmm... hero points or not to hero point. 50 minutes, and he can send a lay on hands to Merisal or Kyra.

Kyra cleric 5 |

So then Kyra will go to help Dragbog to find inspiration for his new song.
Performance:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
The cleric hopes to have pointed out some dissonances in the previous version of the song.

Unable to do much with healing others...
(Best bonus to worst)
Merisiel will first try to help Jaldan:
Thievery: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26
Then Ceneviel:
Athletics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Finally Nelket:
Medicine: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

![]() |

Being 100% honest - my last 24 hours have been a little bit rough. If I've messed something up here, please poke me on it.
Healing: It appears everyone is at 100% health?
Seleneth, basically you can refocus during the same 20 minutes that it takes to help the local leaders ("double-dipping"), or when you take 10 minutes away by yourself to meditate using the refocus activity.
Ceneviel: Merisiel succeeds at helping her fellow elf.
Merisiel: Cenenviel’s insight grants her a +2 circumstance bonus to all checks made while scouting for enemies during the rest of the adventure.
Dolok Darkfur: Seleneth succeeds at maintaining the ritual, allowing Dolor Darkfur some much-needed rest.
Seleneth: Participating in the ritual attunes you to the healing land, granting you fire resistance 10 for the rest of the adventure, but this only applies to fire damage dealt by environmental fire, not creature attacks or abilities.
Dragbog: Okh succeeds at inspiring the goblin chief. Seleneth attempts to provide context, but fails in doing so (but does not critically fail). Kyra also succeeds, and provides similar (but different) inspiration to Okh's effort.
Okh and Kyra: Dragbog gifts his fellow songwriters with three copies (each) of the “lyrics” (actually just tonal markings on tattered papers). These function as scrolls of sound burst.
Jaldan: Okh critically succeeds at helping Jaldan reinforce the Farheavan camp! Merisiel also succeeds.
Okh and Merisiel: Jaldan gifts you some of her leftover alchemical materials.
Okh:
- four moderate acid flasks
- four moderate thunderstones
Merisiel:
- four moderate acid flasks
Nelket: Kyra & Merisiel succeed at helping Nelket with the wounded.
Kyra and Merisiel: Nelket repays your kindness with 3 lesser healing potions (each).
If anybody has checks they have not yet made (or hero points they wish to spend), please do so now. If you are ready to move on, please make a post indicating your character's readiness for that, as well! Thank you!

![]() |

Merisiel has cleaned and sharpened her blades and is ready when you are.

![]() |

The goblin gives his scroll of Sound burst to Kyra as he can't use them himself. He packs the thunderstones and the acid flasks.
Then he's ready.

![]() |

So I think after 20 minutes for me:
Merisiel: 10 damage, no more wounded
Okh: 0 damage
Seleneth: 26 damage, wounded 1
Kyra: 9 damage
Seleneth is able to fully heal Kyra & Merisiel from here. Mesa & Seleneth each get one LoH (M 18 of 39 Wounded 1, S is 58 of 66 Wounded 1. Seleneth wants to be focused upon finishing the tasks.
The elf makes sure the bodies are properly dealt with and the archer's gear turned over to the Sarkorians, after refilling his own quiver of course. Seleneth is ready to begin.

![]() |

Just before to leave, the goblin gives his acid flasks to Seleneth.
You will throw them better than me.
Is it a way to know why we've got such an equipment and not something else? The reason of my question is to try to plan a strategy. We were good with the brimoraks. A bit lesser with the second wave. Let's be good with the next one.
