Khagra's second attack hits the helmet. With that, it screams and falls to the ground, and again the circle flares in vile flames.

The broken altars around the door once held objects of great crafting skill and beauty, but are now broken and ruined. You recognize the broken wards serve to weaken a creature barricaded beyond the marble doors, and block its teleportation. You are certain that if you place items of great beauty on an altar you will weaken whatever resides behind the now broken door.

A pungent, musty scent chokes the air. Grim bone fetishes strung with knotted hair hang from walls and pillars scratched with fiendish runes that prick and sting the eye when looked upon. A central altar of skulls encircled with soiled rags flickers with ruby light. Behind the foulness, the burble of clean, flowing water beckons from a pristine waterfall in the rear of the chamber.

"Finally! I am free!" shouts the creature from within. This hideous creature is also guarded by what appears to the be the long dead remains of a cultist.

suffocation wrote:

You can hold your breath for a number of rounds equal to 5 + your Constitution modifier. Reduce your remaining air by 1 round at the end of each of your turns, or by 2 if you attacked or cast any spells that turn. You also lose 1 round worth of air each time you are critically hit or critically fail a save against a damaging effect. If you speak (including casting spells with verbal components or activating items with command components) you lose all remaining air.

When you run out of air, you fall unconscious and start suffocating. You can’t recover from being unconscious and must attempt a DC 20 Fortitude save at the end of each of your turns. On a failure, you take 1d10 damage, and on a critical failure, you die. On each check after the first, the DC increases by 5 and the damage by 1d10; these increases are cumulative. Once your access to air is restored, you stop suffocating and are no longer unconscious (unless you’re at 0 Hit Points).

"A div! If you've a cold iron weapon or can bring the power of a god on them, you will hurt them greatly!"

He then draws his dagger, bracing himself for the need to use it.

Sezruth now ignores Khagra, moving towards Sal, bringing the sandstorm with him.
Drante Fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Jaware Fort: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

The div then brings his Cursed Gaze down upon Sal.
Sal will save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

The vile gaze causes Sal mental anguish and frightens him, even though his will was strong enough to resist!

"You fools. You have destroyed the wards, setting me free!"
Finally, Sezruth slashes his claw at Sal!

Drante feels he is too weak and dumb to work properly, and this place will certainly be his own demise. What a start for a career! Hearing the demon's words, he has but one idea.

The old man sprints to Jaware, takes the offering plate they took earlier, and over to one of the broken altars by the broken door. He plans on just placing it on one. He has no idea if that does something, but it must!

Action 1: Stride, action 2: take item?, action: stride, dunno if I can drop the item on the altar as a free action?

The kobold then throws more lightning at the Div.

I am going to say that each of you has one of the recovered items. So, we'll say he has the Sarenrae idol. Jaware has the offering plate. Sal has the shawl. Oh, Khagra hasn't found the one remaining one here. There wasn't a chance. (Seek to find)

Stride, Stride, Interact to pull it out. It will take an Interact to place on the altar. One too few actions. Or, you could have grabbed one from Jaware. Your choice.

Drante moves up to start placing art objects, which Sal inspires and casts his spell. Unfortunately the div avoids the electricity.

Khagra can't talk, so Khagra use Khagra phrasing in text.

Khagra hold breath.

Khagra move into flank.

Khagra stabs the div, catching them in the face. Crit on the first attack! His second attack also hits, killing the foul creature.

The team is then able to place the items into the altars (finding an intact porcelain wren worth 2 gp in the dust around the fountain, amid the broken remnants of its flock gives you four art items).

Inside the Wellspring you find a trap has been left, but you are able to disable it by knocking the four rune-engraved pillars over.

The foulness in the room diminishes. You can freely investigate the chamber and learn how the water controls work if they haven’t already. The passage south leads deeper into the Wellspring, behind the waterfall—a potential area for future exploration, but with the Usij defeated, you realize should return to Aspenthar to make their report.

You meet with Gol Amri on returning to Aspenthar. She praises Prince Zinlo for his infinite wisdom in selecting the Pathfinders for this task. She commends you for performing noble needs beyond their mandate for layingto rest the vengeful spirits and rescuing Seda and Rasool.

Gol Amri affirms that per the arrangement with Venture-Captain Diya Akan, the Pathfinders shall have continued rights of exploration for any unexplored portions of the reclaimed Wellspring. She presents you with a crystal chalice filled with small topaz, sapphires, and black opals worth 20 gp as a reward for their success. She impresses on them that the gems are the colors of Aspenthar’s heraldry, and that this gift is a sign of Prince Zinlo’s approval—a most precious gift indeed.

Success on primary and secondary. Full treasure bundles!

Jaware is proud of the efforts this small team made, and says so. "You are each a fine example for the Pathfinder Society. May you go on to write many chronicles in the future."

Later he hits the city markets, bartering for wares that he can sell for a profit.

Drante, sick, near death, and feeling stupid, prefers to sit the illness out while on site.

Arriving back at the city he sighs heavily for the hard work. "Might be too much for an old bureaucrat like me," Drante says, disappointed, "I overestimated my own abilities far too much."

For you Earn Income might come by heart, but I'm struggling with it. Drante is, as currently designed, field commissioned. So he has more downtime, which he will solely use on Earn Income. Legal Lore and Mercantile Lore are both at +7.

Earn Income: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 So I'm guessing it's 4 sp?

Drante sells some seemingly worthless pebbles from the desert in his home country as souveniers.

"Thank you, Jaware. May the light of your divine guidance never fade, and may you see great profit in your future."

Back at the City

"It might be better to go back to Absalom and get some more training. When the recruiter mentioned the possibility to me, I took advantage of it. It was an expense-paid trip to the City in the Center of the World and while some of the training was difficult it was helpful for learning the ropes. In addition, one cannot discount the resource opportunities for working with the Schools, Drante."

At L1 things can be swapped around a little bit, up until the first game played at L2. My personal experience with Field-Commissioned is that it gives too little for what it grants. That being said, I have characters that are Field-Commissioned for story reasons. For records sake, Sal is affiliated with the Scrolls school.

Sal is an accountant and happens to be fluent in Osiriani. He navigates the twisty turns of fiduciary writings to attempt to check some books of the local population.

Drante is field commissioned for story reasons, yeah. But he'll undergo a change in all aspects, excluding age, appearance, and family relations.
