Ehm, there's a roof, but it's high. It's like a warehouse. I'll say 30' height unless there are objections....
From the stature of the figures, does just under the roof look like I'm out of reach?

GM Watery Soup |

From the stature of the figures, does just under the roof look like I'm out of reach?
The vegetable things are Large and have 10' reach, so yes. The tree is Huge and its reach is unknown, so if it has 10' reach, yes, you're out of reach; if it has 15' reach, no, you're in reach.
---
Fuzzfoot lobs a bomb at the red thug. It instantly kills the man. Some fire splashes on the vegetable monster, but it doesn't seem to be bothered. Fire resistance >8.
The Blue thug seizes the opportunity to stand up and run!

Rakesh looks on in bewilderment as Kitoro struts out of the market.
Where in the nine hells is she going?
He mumbles out loud to himself.
With the swirling vegetables now formed into massive lumbering creatures, Rakesh tries to recall any knowledge about them.
Know: Nature: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Suddenly, his leg is slashed and then grabbed by twisting roots. He tries to resist as he is dragged towards the large tree creature.
Gaaahhh!!! Help me cut the roots!
He calls out, then starts hacking away furiously at the taught roots pulling him.

Roderick is not amused with the salad creatures pulling his allies around the market.
Fuzzfoot, it appears these smaller ones are flame resistant. I am going to try against the bigger one hauling our Nagaji towards it.
He flies more to the center and lobs a fire bomb at the big one.

Though not interested in getting on the bad side of the spirits (which she still figures these to be), she is not above lending a little help to her allies.
Pulling out her finger puppets she starts an encouraging performance featuring vegetable wielding protagonists.
(Inspire courage +2)
She then readies a Good Hope spell for when and if at least 3 PCs are within 30' of each other. (Not worth casting for just 2)
Note: Kit is just outside the green market. The map is unfortunately truncated so it is hard to place her icon.

![]() |

Aha! I didn't even see the tree on the map. I thought the veggie monster was the tree, and the man was the veggie monster. My target would have been the veggie monster and I would have used selective bombs to exclude the red man. The tree is too far away to enter into the mix. Sorry about that.

GM Watery Soup |

Retcon Fuzzfoot's bomb does damage the vegetable monster, breaking through its fire resistance.
Retcon Redd continues to take fire damage. 1d10 ⇒ 5
Stabilize: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Rakesh hacks at the roots, causing damage, but still remains held. Not sure if there's a universal rule about attacking when things like this grab. I'm going to rule it's okay unless there's a specific rule against it - but Rakesh is still grabbed.
Roderick throws a bomb which sends fire all over the tree ... except it is immune to fire damage!
Kitoro readies a spell.
The tree continues reeling Rakesh in, and lumbers forward to bite him when in range (15' reach).
Bite: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (2, 1) + 9 = 12

Red moves for Fuzzfoot. No step because of difficult terrain.
Slam: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20

Fuzzfoot dodges the blow.
Blue, with a hold on Ansha, constricts.
Maintain Grapple: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (16) + 16 = 32
Constrict: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (6, 6) + 7 = 19
I somehow deleted Zeeva off of the initiative order - last turn, she would have moved and used a fortune hex on Ehm (you can use it this coming turn), and this turn, she will move again and fortune Rakesh.
Since nobody is attacking the thugs, I'm going to just let everyone go in a block to expedite posts. Blue will just keep running, and Red will probably die.

Rakesh gets a sudden burst of energy he can't quite figure out. He suddenly locks onto Keeva's gaze as she winks at him. He feels a bit of luck flow through him and winks back at the woman.

Roderick figures his bombs are not getting the job done and decides it may require more physical intervention.
Hold on, Ansha! Can you convince the thug to help us? He is not listening to me. Rubbish!
He mixes an enlarge person infusion and quaffs it.
I am guessing we do not really have anyone able to do much healing in this party...so we are on our own. Kitoro, you may still have another action since liberating command is an 'immediate'

![]() |

Good point. And your reward for making that point is...
Kit finishes off by casting a heroism on herself.

Ansha calls back as she continues to struggle in vain against the aggressive flora, "Love to, but my hands are tied!"
Assuming he's not out of range/sight and she's not unconscious, she can try something next round. Probably lesser geas, although unnatural lust or reckless infatuation would be hilarious if they worked.

![]() |

Right...did not know if she had some verbal-only, non-spell trick she could try. Would be hilarious is right, and thought of her after Roderick called to the thug (like "hey, somebody has to be more convincing than Roderick!" LOL)

Still wondering if my Nature check of 21 identifies anything about the salad golems.
Yes, sorry about missing that (twice!). I was going to fold it in with a repsonse to Roderick's Recall knowledges, and then forgot about them both.
Rakesh and Roderick know these function as shambling mounds. Roderick knows that in addition to regular plant immunities, they are resistant to fire (10) and immune to electricity - as a matter of fact, electricity rejuvenates them, and gives them a 1d4 boost to Constitution. Rakesh also knows that they have poor Reflex and Will saves.

In the ripple of exotic magical power, certain parts of the creatures are transformed into precious or magical treasures that can be harvested.
The PCs can harvest the equivalent of 1 potion of speak with plants, 2 potions of resist energy (fire), a potion of tree shape, and a potion of rage, as well as three shambler vines from the vegetable monsters. A branch from the tree can be cut and trimmed to serve as +1 ghost touch/mwk quarterstaff. Twenty oak leaves can be collected from the fallen tree that have transformed to platinum and are worth 100 gp each as exotic art objects.
Shambler Vine
Aura strong transmutation; CL 12th
Slot —; Price 600 gp; Weight 1 lb.
DESCRIPTION
A shambler vine resembles a leafy green plant vine about 6 feet long, wrapped in a coil. If touched, it writhes as if alive. Up to three vines can be stored in a small sack, though the price is for one. When thrown at an opponent, a vine grows in midair, and acts as a rope of entanglement. It can reach 20 feet forward or 10 feet upward to entangle the target.
The entangled target can break free with a DC 20 Strength check or DC 20 Escape Artist check. A shambler vine has AC 22, 12 hit points, hardness 10, and damage reduction 10/slashing. It does not repair itself, and if it is severed (all 12 hit points lost to damage), it is destroyed. The vine lasts for a single use before withering away, and if left on a target that is unable to get free, the vine withers after 1 hour.
Zeeva runs to assist injured vendors and customers with her healing hex. As she tends to the Pathfinders’ wounds and assesses the damage to the market, she mentions that nothing like this has ever happened before, and seems worried that it could happen again and threaten her clients.
She suggests the Pathfinders seek out a Shoanti shaman who frequents the Green Market to shop for herbs and other supplies. The woman, named Telmayne Fire-Eyes, lives in the Skaldwood, a copse of forest not far from Korvosa’s walls in which Shoanti who have yet to assimilate into Korvosan culture make their home.
"From time to time," Zeeva frets, "She has indicated she senses a strong connection to her people within the market. Perhaps she can shed some light on this."
I'll give you some time to work out healing, as well as ask any other questions of Zeeva.
