Disagreements among the Pathfinders erupted into violence 300 years ago, spurring the Society's leaders to don helms that hid their identities and protected them from assassins. These ten members of the Decemvirate have remained anonymous to this day.
However, a recent discovery may uncover new information about this dangerous part of the Society's history.

The Master of Scrolls, Kreighton Shane, has send you all a missive, which has prompted your arrival in Korvosa.
Upon your arrival in the City of Korvosa, the largest city in Varisia, you may may wish to research more about the area, the Shoanti, and Montlarion Jeggare.
You have learned that Fort Korvosa was constructed by Chelish marines under the command of Field Marshal Jakthion Korvosa. Once completed, it served as a defensive position from which settlers and explorers would enter Varisia. Korvosa has since become a major cosmopolitan city. Imps, otyughs, and shrew flies pose concerns for unsuspecting visitors.

The wayang made a long journey to arrive to Korsova with the terrestrial resources. But so he had all the time to think about the artefact the Master of Scrolls was talking about. And being sent to find something about this one is something always interesting for a member of the dark archives.
So he arrives in the city with his pistol on his chest, ready to go for a search.
Dorrion

After having read the missive, the half-elf makes the trip to Korsova to go to the Museum. There he should begin to investigate to retrieve the artefact. The ancestor of Montlarion will be perhaps not very inclined to cooperate, but maybe perhaps very well. Let's see.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
Once arrived in the city he tries to get information.
Annissa
|
Annissa wears traditional Qadiran garb (though not as thickly layered and modest as Kyra's, for she values speed and freedom above all) that makes her out of place in Korvosa, but likely that was the case with many of her fellow Pathfinders. Blending it rarely seemed a priority.
A thin, almost translucent mourning veil of diaphanous black covers her face as she watches the city from where she crouches upon the balls of her feet. A long hafted weapon with a scimitar-like blade at it's end resting across her taut, armor-skirted thighs.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Shirin Asal

Shirin walks with dignity and slow steps.
"Greetings to you all. I am Shirin." says the young woman with a shy smile.
She looks a little scrawny but quite agile. Her golden, shining hair have an exotic appeal.
Resting on top of her chest, an amulet showing the holy symbol of Sarenrae is visible.
She has a natural presence although she does not come across aloof or arrogant at all.
Below her dress light leather armor is visible and she carries a Scimitar at her hip that is attached to her wrist with a very fine chain.
Facing you all she bows.

Annissa cocks her head to the side and surveys Shirin suspiciously, but upon seeing the symbol of Sarenrae her shoulders seem to relax slowly, reassured by the others' presence.
"I have no notes to give," she says, voice somewhere between curt and regretful.

We may get one more, but I think we can go ahead and move along.
Following the directive of the Master of Scrolls, you arrive in the City of Korvosa, the largest city found in the wilderness area known as Varisia, and the seat of one of three city-states that claim independent authority over their individual holdings in the region. Moving through the city, you make your way to the Heights district where the striking marble edifices of the Jeggare Museum rise above the surrounding terrain.
Upon arrival, atop the grand stone stairway that leads to the museum's prominent grand entryway, you are greeted by a red-haired man sporting spectacles and well-kept beard.
“Welcome to my museum, Pathfinders! I am Mercival Jeggare, the head curator.” declares the portly man adorned in a frock coat and ruffled blouse. The scholarly figure gestures toward a grand entryway dotted with displays of weapons, artwork, and fossilized remains. “Come in, come in! Always a pleasure to host members of the Society. I assume this is in regards to the missive I received from Mr. Shane?”

After the journey he had to come here, yes it was because of a mission of someone important that he came here, not because of the pictural art of the city.
Of course, Dear Mr. Jeggare. Thank you for your warm welcome. Where can we speak from the subject of the missive?
Dorrion

The clerical human is pleased to be arrived and to meet their contact in the city.
Hello, I hope we will be able to help you here.
Let's see of this mission will go. Last time there were some poisoners behind the curtain. So move carefully.
| GM Valen |
.Of course, Dear Mr. Jeggare. Thank you for your warm welcome. Where can we speak from the subject of the missive?
"Where ever you would be most comfortable, I suppose. You will find my museum here is rather extensive, housing grand galleries, small contemplative spaces, and everything in between," boasts Mercival, as he begins to walk and gesture for you to follow.
“Most of the exhibits displayed here were collected by my family and ancestors." he continues. "Of particular note is the esteemed Montlarion Jeggare. Presently, some personal effects of his are undergoing restoration for public debut. Antiques from Korvosa’s founding, vestiges of conquered Shoanti tribes, and ancient rune-etched artifacts account for the bulk of the collection. In recent years, the collection’s expanded to include treasures from other all over Golarion. Why just this morning, we procured several Tian antiquities.”
Hello, I hope we will be able to help you here.
Mercival pauses. "Oh? I was under the impression from Master Shane's correspondence that it was you who were seeking my help. Something about my museum housing a 'speaking artifact' and a 'false rider', I believe?"
"I must concede, I am unsure just as to what they may be referring." he pauses and pensively strokes his beard. "Adding an enchanted mouth could make an artifact speak, I suppose. A ‘rider’ may suggest someone mounted or else a proviso or alteration of some prior statement or decree."
"My staff and I have gone to great lengths to preserve the artifacts and items within this museum so that they may continue to be a source of knowledge and inspiration for those of us living in the present as well as for ages to come."
"Perhaps, if I show you around, your trained eyes may spot something that I have overlooked?"
Waze
|
Maybe. Maybe. The player is thinking: of course. Of course.
After some refreshments can we perhaps have a look?
| GM Valen |
"Refreshments?" Mercival replies, somewhat off put by the request. He pauses for a moment, then concedes, "Very well, then. I suppose one shouldn't conduct research on an empty stomach. The museum commissary, while rather small, is well-stocked and provides an intimate space for further discussion regarding Master Shane's letter."
"Of course, I must insist that you do not consume any food around the exhibits," states the curator. "My staff and I are meticulous when it comes to the cleanliness and preservation of items within the collection. I certainly wouldn't do to have the invaluable artifacts here soiled with loose crumbs, meat drippings, or beverage stains."
"Follow me," he sighs. "The fastest way is through here, which just happens to be the largest of the galleries here, which houses those Shoanti artifacts on display."
The curator leads you to an expansive gallery, illuminated by skylights. Exhibits displayed within decorative alcoves include several wooden totems and tools. More wood-carved pieces rest within a raised exhibition area to the north.
A massive glass-walled case dominates the center of the gallery and holds three bound volumes of the Pathfinder Chronicles. To the south, a table bears two metal chests as another holds two carved reliefs.
Suddenly, there is a resounding *CRACK* followed by a cascade of wood dust heralding the fall of one of the enormous glass skylights before it shatters upon the marbled floor.
"It would seem that you Pathfinders are not the only creatures currently being drive here by hunger!" shouts a very concerned Mercival. "Those are shrew flies!"
Even as shards of glass skitter across the stone floor, a cloud of buzzing insects pours into the gallery, splitting off into two sizable masses.
"Those pests will devour whatever they can!" Mercival cries in horror, then implores you. "Please, I beg of you! Hold them off! Protect the artifacts until I have had a chance to retrieve a means to deal with these ravagers!"
The curator rushes towards the exit of the gallery even as the flying hordes approaches.

Annissa had been quiet most of this time, dutifully following the rest of the Pathfinders. Pensive and contemplative, she really old reacted to the "rune-etched artifacts" that were mentioned before.

Is there some way to protect the artifacts, like can we run over and scoop some of them up?
You may attempt any way to protect an artifact that you wish. Be creative! The objects are not nailed down or encapsulated (the museum relies on magic for most efforts of preservation and anti-theft), so they can be manipulated, picked up, stowed, carried, etc. A reminder of the cost of many of the actions that you may attempt during combat can be found here.

Annissa was a woman of instinctive, perhaps maternal nature. Protecting something normally meant getting in the way, or holding them close. So, that's what she does.
She hurries across the room, ducking her head as she tumbles around the closest swarm, hoping her wild swats and veil are enough to keep them at bay as she manages to catch herself at the far alcoves. Double move

Annissa ignores the swarm as if they weren't there, scooping up the artifact an turning to sprint free of the mass, tossing the artifact towards the rest of her party to keep it safe or, at least, use it as bait before turning on her heels and continuing to rush towards the other bug-enshrouded item.

ranged touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 241d6 ⇒ 2
| GM Valen |
In 1st edition Pathfinder, Annissa does not have enough actions to 1) scoop up the artifact (move action), 2) toss the artifact (standard), and 3) rush towards the other item (move). However, since Annissa was within the swarm when she picked up the artifact, she would have noticed that she was able to shield it from the insects as she held it. (The swarm's devour ability only works on unattended objects and, once she picked it up, the artifact is no longer "unattended".)
In short, I am retconning Anissa's actions so that she is still holding the damage artifact (orange).
A PC can carry multiple artifacts, but each artifact weighs one pound.
