If Lucius is not dying because he has 30 HP, that opens up more options for Nandipha. I am basing my actions on that assumption.

Nandipha can wake up the wolf that was knocked out and discover the Hellhound took over their pack and bullied them into attacking humans! Now that it's gone, the wolves should go back to their natural activities. With the plentiful game in the region, they should leave people well enough alone.

You might also realize that Hellhounds are often summoned. The problem at hand is solved, but you might worry about something more insidious going on here.

You move along the road. You have confirmed with two people that your courier went this way just a couple of days ago. You're on the right track.

❧ ❧ ❧

Several hours later, the road leaves the farmlands behind and enters a forested area. It's cool under the shade; birds chirp and small animals watch you from the shadows. Olli flits about in the branches and it's hard to keep Carrots focused with all the game around.

You turn a shady bend and see someone standing in the middle of the road. It looks like a person. A person with four legs. But they aren't moving. A breeze moves the trees, and the sunlight dapples her face — it's stone! This must be Narala… but she has been turned into some kind of statue. Petrified!

Lucius and Nandipha try to think about what kind of creature or magic might turn someone to stone, but can't really remember anything right now.

Dethor, however, suspects this is the work of the fiercely territorial Darklands Skunk, whose vile spray turns its victims to stone. You can cleanse the victim with gallons of tomato juice… simple enough up here on the surface, but a very rare commodity in the darklands. That's what makes it so dangerous!

As you pause here in bemusement, you notice something else. Dethor, Lucius, and Nandipha hear several creatures talking in the trees ahead and to the right. It's a strange sibilant language. It's hard to get a bead on just where they are, though — they aren't that close.

Lucius:
First, That's Odd: Narala isn't carrying her courier bag.

Second: the voices are speaking in Draconic. You hear things like "No, that way!" and "Pull there!" "no, boss, your OTHER left!"

Map updated. The statue is the centaur. The voices are noted but the foliage is quite dense and it's hard to get a precise bead on them. Please let me know how you approach or if you do anything… probably a round of action. You can have weapons out if you want. Forest is x4 difficult terrain for anyone whose not small.

I would note that if you're casting spells with verbal components like Magic Fang, stealth is kind of out the window here. If you can hear them talking, they can certainly hear a verbal component as it's spoken in a "strong voice." It doesn't look like everyone is being stealthy anyhow, so I am not sure it matters that much. Lucius will be posting later tonight, and then I hope to move you on!

Spoiler:

A creature petrified in this manner that is coated (not just splashed) with fresh basilisk blood (taken from a basilisk that has been dead no longer than 1 hour) is instantly restored to flesh. A single basilisk contains enough blood to coat 1d3 Medium creatures in this manner.

It then steps closer, also hampered by the terrain. It doesn't look very fast.

DC 20 Arcana or nature:
This is a Basilisk! They can stare at a creature within 30 feet as two actions. That creature must attempt a Fortitude save. If it fails it becomes slowed 1. If the creature was already slowed by this ability or Petrifying Glance, a failed save causes the creature to be petrified permanently. Worse still, it can petrify as a reaction when you start your turn.

"These be no Darklands Skunks! These be Basilisks, and they can slow you, then petrify you! Avert your eyes!"

◈ Nandipha uses an action to avert her gaze.

◈ She approaches closer, hoping to get in striking distance of the Basilisk next time.

You hear creatures moving around in the bushes to the right — and more hushed whispering in that strange language!

Draconic:

”SHHHH!”

”Shush YOURSELF!”

”No, YOU shush!”

There are three kobolds watching you! They’re trying to stay hidden, but going a pathetic job of it. They greedily eye your shiny weapons and treasure.

One of the kobolds whispers to the other, and points at Biltri, Baux, and Dethor.

Draconic:
Hey… wait a minute… them the bad ones, who killed our friends and our pet under the city?”

Meanwhile, the Basilisk gazes at Biltri again, trying to petrify him. It then turns its claws upon Biltri if he passes the save, or Dethor if Biltri fails.
