One more of these creatures appear as if from the very walls of the mountain. It is an inky cloud of smoke from which two pale arms ending in murderous claws extend.
When a soul eater is summoned to the Material Plane, it creates a mental link between itself and the caster who summoned it. If the soul eater’s assigned target dies before the soul eater can devour its soul, the soul eater returns at full speed to the caster and attacks him. | Jorne Fyrestone Stavian |
As they stand there ready to smack anything else that comes through the wall he asks, "Hey Quince, what do you think about summoning Sulvanii to help outfit our friends here?"
Quince Medvyed
Quince smiles, "They certainly deserve all that I could reward them with."
He then takes puts his hand in his Haversack and pulls fourth an ornate black lamp. Similar to one hanging from his belt. When someone looks at him and both lamps. Quince smirks and looks toward Cleo, "When folk might learn you might carry a magic lamp its not a good idea to keep it where fingers might easily retrieve it. Better to give them the satisfaction of getting their prize and leave them disappointed when the lamp they stole doesn't even have oil or a wick."
He rubs the lamp, "He's a friend."
Quince Medvyed
So I edited my last post cause it seemed like they were out and out fleeing. If they appear to be waiting out the Ring of Fife. I will encourage everyone to buff up. Right away.
Sulvanii
A cloud of smoke billows from the black lamp. As the smoke becomes large you see a red humanoid form take shape at the top of the cloud.
In the next round the creature becomes more substantial the muscular giant has crimson skin, smoldering eyes, and small black horns. Smoke rises in curls from its flesh. It stands about 12 feet tall and weighs about 2,000 pounds though it still remains aloft. In a loud bellowing voice he says, "You summoned me my Lord Commander!"
There isn't much for clothing upon him, a black vest, a glowing red gold belt, and a crown upon his brow. There are golden amulets and necklaces around his neck and many glittering rings upon his fingers. A bow is strung over his shoulder and an adamantine falchion at his side. There are other scabbards and pouches attached to his belt.
Quince Medvyed
Quince smiles, "Greetings friend. I have missed our 'Donuts with the Duke' morning routine. These folk that have served here deserve reward. Their work here seeking for the lost people of Varnhold should be honored. Our efforts here will likely tax our abilities."
Every once in awhile GM Wolf likes to give us some things. Not sure what he has in mind here yet but, he suggested I summon one of our Duchy's most prolific gift giver.
Sulvanii
1 person marked this as a favorite.
He slowly descends to the ground through the smoke and he transforms. Now only six feet tall, in a black full suit, and coppery red hair. In one of his hands is a box. Once he lands he opens the box offering the frosted doughnuts to Quince first and then the others. "As you wish! I have missed 'Donuts with the Duke' as well. I have not used my wishes yet today. Each of you may collect one as well as if you swear fealty to Lord Commander Quince Medvyed you will gain a noble's ring of Greenwatch. I also can offer up some of my equipment."
Quince should have a ring of power that allows him to make announcements to all the wearers of the noble's rings.
As you ask about his equipment he offers:
Vest of resist +5
Eternal wand of mage armor, 5 charges, CL 5
Eternal wand of shield, 5 charges, CL 5

"You never cease to provide surprises, Duke." Dinenen tries one of the pastries.
"Now, Sulvani, I am afraid I must decline your offer of the ring. I acknowledge the Duke's authority, and willingly accompany him for now, but I have already sworn an oath to follow the path The Perfect Man helps me find, and can not take another which could be at odds with it. You are being most generous, and I am positive everyone here appreciates that fully."
------------
Gear talk. The vest would be a better thematic fit than the cloak I am already wearing, as a straight trade so someone else can have the cloak +5. I have no Natural Armor or Armor bonus currently, and only a +1 Deflection bonus right now. My Str is 14. I am not claiming ANYTHING. Heck, I would be happy if somebody used a charge from the Eternal Mage Armor wand on me when appropriate! Put new stuff on everybody else, first, please.

The soul eater attacking Dinenen does disengage and return to the wall and seemingly goes through it. Negating its last attack on Dinenen for Round 7.So, the first attack still happens? Got it. 27 beats my AC of 22, netting 7 HP damage in this fight, but . . ..
Fort DC 17: 1d20+10  1 Wis Damage it is!
So, whether we do the penalty for 2 points or for my net Wis, 1 point puts my effective Wis at 20.
Its not 1 point of Wisdom damage but: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Dinenen
[Dice=Its not 1 point of Wisdom damage but]1d6
You can certainly reroll it if you wish, but you DID roll Wisdom damage in the original attack spoiler.
vs. Dinenen
claw: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (9) + 18 = 27
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2/19–20 plus Wisdom damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1 Fort DC 17.
claw: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (13) + 18 = 31
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2/19–20 plus Wisdom damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6 Fort DC 17.

Quince smiles as he takes a donut. "I was missing a night with my new wife a smidge more than this, but thank you." He takes a bite of the donut.
Sulvanii
"I could bring her the next time you summon me?" He asks expecting an answer from Quince. He looks at those assembled and wonders aloud, "So they aren't the most forth coming companions, does something have your tongue?"
---
As Jorne finds a short cut he offers as he puts the box into a hole in the air, "We can continue this at a run. Come along and soon we shall find your quarry!" Before he slips into the secret door he aims his hand and hits the Crow with a produce flame.
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13
1d10 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17

As the fire wall finished dissipating he went to check the cliff wall where they came and left through... his hand went into the wall. Then he fully went in, then poking just his head back he says, "Hurry those things are fast!" Then he returns to the secret tunnel. He does have a 50ft speed...

Lykàn is surprised as he watches Quince pull out something legendary. Even in his hunts he has heard bits and pieces of such treasures.
They also come with multiple warnings and curses so he takes a step back. Hearing Quince's words though helps to calm him down but it was best to be cautious.
He looks in interest at the Bow though marveling at its enchantment and make.
He looks confused a the treat Quince was happily munching into.
Jorne's words though brings him back to what they needed to do right now.
"We can continue as we run I guess."
Quince Medvyed
Quince looks to Sulvanii, "That would do well. Tell her I love her."
He looks to the others. "Take something it will help."
He nods to Jorne, "Lead on."
GM Wolf
As you follow Jorne the wall is but an illusion. You step through to a ten foot wide and 15 foot tall chiseled out corridor. After 50 feet you see a door that is ten feet wide and 15 feet tall on the left. The corridor continues another 750 feet roughly when you see another identical door, then 50 more feet before sunlight hits your eyes again after you go through another illusionary wall.
Now before you is a massive waterfall, about 400 feet across and a 500 or more foot drop into a river. If you continue to follow Jorne there is a walkway that goes behind the waterfall. Limestone blocks about 10 feet wide and 5 feet tall make this corridor. You think it might be the same material of the walls of the corridor.
100 feet along the slippery path you could continue or turn left. Jorne turned left...
Quince Medvyed
I am assuming we are all attempting to keep pace though I think others might still be waiting to respond to Sulvanii. Is there anything to keep footing on the slippery path?
As they move Quince looks them over for wounds, "Is anyone hurt?"
Dinenen
He shrugs. "Not enough to worry about."
Quince Medvyed
As the move along through the long hall Quince keeps pace with Jorne. When they emerge from the second wall of stone. He gasps at the site of the waterfall. "Whoa. Thank you Erastil for this moment." He slows taking in the scenery before moving after Jorne.
Dinenen
"b]Is anyone else a little creeped out by Jorne being so confident about how to get wherever he's taking us? He hasn't been here before, either, has he?[/b]"
Sulvanii
He slows down and enjoys the view with Quince, "Yes it surly is breath taking."
GM Wolf
You would see the soul eaters 50 feet and 100 feet ahead of him. He is keeping his distance but still keeping view of them.
If you stay next to the wall you should be fine. Acrobatics DC 5 if you take a move action per round, slowing down. Or DC 12 to take a double move. If you get on the ledge next to the water that falls, that is a completely different story.
Quince Medvyed
"I think he sees our foes still ahead."
I am sorry I didn't realize that he had them in sight. I know he said they are fast. Were we able to see them. At any point? Was that point less than 170 feet ahead of us? If so I would have put a wall up in their way if it made sense to do so; blocking a hall ringing them in when they were near the waterfall, and so on.
knowledge religion: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16 Do we have a feel for how smart these things are?
Lykàn Delĩss
"As long as we do not lose their spoor, our hunt can go on." comes the only possible one of the party who's enjoying this.
Quince Medvyed
Its up to you? Has the moment past? I would much rather trap them and fight than let them run back where they came from with us chasing.
GM Wolf
Quince go ahead and make another wall.
Recon just a bit...
As you run down the long hallway you see Quince use his wand of wall of fire again. The fire erupts the creature has mere seconds to make a decision and runs through the wall. Jorne was running to keep up with these flying devils. He went through the wall as well. As the group slows from running once they get near the wall of fire, What does Quince and the group do now?
As Cleo has been struggling to keep up she screeches out, "Why? The soul eaters are going back to attack the person that pointed them at us?!"
