| The Bot Behind the Screen |
Saeron's elemental slams down into the nanite thing's legs, but they discorporate and reform just as the fist passes through ineffectually. Teka sends a quick flurry of commands and the robot clanks over to the door and begins to strain hard against it. Squeals of servos grinding and gears clenching emanate from both the robot and the door as mere millimeters of progress are gained. Saeron joins in, leaning in pushing with all of her might as Teka quickly approaches. It's quite clear that this is going to be a massive team effort to get this passage open... at least if it's going to be done before that... thing makes quick work of the lot of you.
Teka: The sentry will continue attempting strength checks now every round until you command otherwise.
Tofana: You indicated last round that if the party was attempting to fall back you'd assist, so you can go ahead and also take your move action from last round.

Croaker takes a guarded step backwards and takes a shot at the monstrosity
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
"Focus on the doors, I can't help with that!"
Tofana
|
"Frinke, try this!" Tofana tosses the elf the sonic pistol.
Then she works on wiring the datapad to the gun for firing control.
Engineering or Computers: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
| The Bot Behind the Screen |
Drift puts some serious muscle into it and manages to make some progress on opening the door. The grinding sound sputters and some dust and steam comes jetting out as the door makes a full inch of progress. (You've made some progress on the door but will need more strength checks to get it open enough for an escape.)
The nanite creature cracks its whip down on the elemental...
Attack: 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (7) + 27 = 34
Damage: 4d6 + 20 ⇒ (1, 2, 5, 6) + 20 = 34
The elemental splits in half, flashes, then winks out as the hulking form of the nanite monsters steps forward. It's whip glitches out of existence as the nanites attempt to reform the weapon.

Teka sighs as the door doesn't open completely, she looks to the robot for a moment, and then to slowly reforming nanite whip. "As much as I regret this, we might need some more time before we get out of here. The door may open soon, but risks like this aren't how you grow to an healthy retirement. We should fall back and hope it can't stop our exit."
Hoping the creature can't attack while the whip reforms, Teka falls back into the previous room and readies to close the door once everyone passes through.
Hopefully it can't currently take an AoO, if it can, it will at least take it on me rather than anyone else.
Meanwhile the robotic security drone continues to continue the previously commanded task to open the door.
Sentry Robot Strength vs Door: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Saeron Kasari
|
Saeron pales as her summoned elemental is destroyed in one swipe.
With no better option presenting itself, Saeron hastens after Teka into the adjoining room. (Double move)
Spike 'Croaker'
|
Croaker moves towards the doors and tries to aid the others
"Ok Starfinders on three!"
Croaker actually needs to make two 5ft steps to not get AOO, so he can make a check next round
Tofana
|
Tofana leaves the ceiling gun and datapad and runs for the other room.
Move as shown.

Did I miss the memo? Crap I did, we were supposed to escape and leave the robot trying to open the doors? I actually missed that :(
Yes, I don't think it was outright stated until I acted on my turn though. Since the door didn't open up on Drift's successful action and the summon was immediately dispatched, I was calling for a retreat since I would argue none of us can take an attack from this thing.
It sounded as though it didn't have the weapon formed in this moment, but in any case I'm going to be taking the AoO if there is one to open up the escape route back out.
Barring any other ideas, I would say we should all get out of that room for now.
Tofana
|
Yeah. It can two shot most of us at full strength, but since we're injured, we're all close to one shot and die. Teka might go three rounds with it, but maybe not.
Run away and come back.
| The Bot Behind the Screen |
The Nanite monster fails to capitalize on Teka bolting by as it still lacks its weapon. She makes it out of the command center, followed immediately by Saeron and Tofana. Croaker does his best to assist the Sentry robot at prying the door open which is presently struggling.
Can someone bot Drift and Frinke? Also, if anyone has rerolls they'd like to use, those door opening rolls would be good candidates.

Drift and Frinke look at each other and at the scary thing. They both break for the door simultaneously/ Frinke is faster, but Drift has less far to go. The hit the door frame together, shoulders wedging them to a temporary stop until they shift slightly and burst through.
Move as shown. Sorry, Croaker. I'd love to leave them in there to improve your odds of survival, but I've got a fiduciary duty when botting. I hope the nanite titan takes out the robot instead of you.
| The Bot Behind the Screen |
The nanotech golem flicks it's eye back and forth as people run by, finally settling on croaker. It begins to ascend into the air, then flies forward, partially discorporating around the railing up to the higher level and reforming on the other side. It's whip finishes reforming as it moves and it stands menacingly over the ysoki. (Double move, ascend and move forward).

Teka looks about the room as she mutters, "oh dear."
She takes herself away from the door controls to instead command the sentry robot. "Would one of you be so kind to take hold of the door and close it after Croaker joins us?"
The ysoki focuses on adjusting the commands of the drone with a few shell commands. The drone still spends a moment trying to pull open the door, but with that task attempted it will move to place itself between Croaker and the menacing construct.
Strength to Open Door: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
If this doesn't work, Teka will draw a smoke grenade to hand for someone else to throw to provide some concealment (hoping it can't see through that).
| The Bot Behind the Screen |
The robot interjects itself between the Nanotech golem and Croaker, but the golem is completely unphased... despite the sentinel's hijacked programming, the golem appears to acknowledge it as a normal resident and takes no aggressive action towards it.

Saeron steps forward to fill Teka's post by the door. Peering around the door, she sneaks a peek at the action, particularly the golem, within.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23 (See metagamey query in discussion)
She readies to close the door as soon as her companions are all through.
Tofana
|
Tofana watches Frinke flee with the sonic pistol. The android then looks to Teka. "Have you a plan?"
With Frinke gone, I think Tofana might be the best grenade thrower who has actions left. I'm going to wait a bit before declaring an action.
Metagaming -- Maybe the transitions from giant to nanite cloud drain it. We've got three weapons that were planted in the scenario, and can fire two out of those. When we get back into the exit room, we should try to get the last weapon on-line. I think it was a computers check. Tofana could try, but Teka and Drift have better modifiers.
| The Bot Behind the Screen |
Saeron sneaks a peek out the door and tries to assess the current state of the golem. It seems as though the golem really doesn't care about the sentry robot, likely classifying it as an ally or just something that is supposed to be there. Unfortunately, as time goes on and the lingering cold dissipates it seems to be a little quicker to reform. If this thing is still waking up, you absolutely do not want to be here when it's fully online.

Tofana watches Frinke flee with the sonic pistol. The android then looks to Teka. "Have you a plan?"
Teka does show some disappointment in the robot not able to draw attention off. She quickly sets that aside as she works with Tofana. "If you take this grenade it should provide enough smoke for Croaker to join us and find another moment of respite to plan."
Teka is holding out a standard smoke grenade for use in providing some concealment.
As for a longer plan, I don't think we have the tools to bring this down even with the weaponry we have on hand. Even firing all out, I don't think we would be able to land a shot without it being weakened far more than it is currently. We might be able to do that if we got out of here because the cold environment of the world might be enough to give us the edge in this fight. Maybe even shut it down outright.
It also seems not particularly fast and we might be able to take advantage of that once we are out of the tight confines of this facility. Use our long range weapons to eventually score some hits despite the high AC.
While the turret weapon we grabbed could be very useful, if we need to hit the same AC I was firing at before, I don't think we will be successful enough just yet.
So for now I would say we should fall back into earlier rooms and let the robot finishing opening the doorway out.
Spike 'Croaker'
|
Croaker spots that he is left alone "Crap of thousands of rats on those cowards!" as the Ysoki attempts to escape from the foe
Withdraw - first south and another south, then west towards the doors. If it has reach I think second move can trigger (unless the cover from robot denys the AOO ;)
| The Bot Behind the Screen |
Teka: I think someone would need to be adjacent to you to take the item and use it in the same turn.
Croaker: It looks like there is a path to keep the robot between yourself and the nanite golem to cover your withdrawal, assuming you are vaulting the railing, which would need a DC 5 athletics check as it is essentially a short ladder. Seeing as you are actually trained in it and only fail on a natural 1, I'll go ahead and assume that is what you are doing.
Croaker's climb to safety: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Croaker ducks around the sentry robot, quickly hops over the railing, then retreats into the room with the rest of his compatriots just in time to see the door slide closed.
Out of initiative... for now.
10d20 ⇒ (9, 2, 10, 16, 14, 8, 4, 16, 19, 20) = 118

Teka releases a held breath once Croaker is back to safety.
"I admit I was hopeful we would find something to contest it there, or that the doors would be easier to open. We might be safe for the moment, but we should still be ready to run. As much as I am glad we found these weapons, I don't think I would be able to land a hit unless I was truly blessed."
Teka motions to wave the datapad as she reviews the commands.
"While the robot wasn't able to draw the attention away from you Croaker, that may be an advantage to us. I can set the command to continue working at opening the door. Once it is able finally open it it would be a simple matter to make our way and escape down the passage. I'm afraid I can't say what may be down there, but I'm still hopeful there must be a way to get out to the surface, send out a call for help, or maybe even stop that mechanized monstrosity in it's path."
Assuming there are no objections to having the robot continue opening the door.
She taps out a command to the robot to return to the prior operation of forcing the door open.
Teka will stay with the group in any case, but would like to try to rest in a room with multiple exits. Either the current one where the party fought the latest to undead, or the laboratory to the north.
Tofana
|
"Let's go back to the undead lab and wait there. When it comes after us there we can return directly to the door room. At least we will know where it is."
Saeron Kasari
|
Saeron nods her agreement. "We should move away from here," she says. "If we can draw it back to one of the earlier rooms, it may give us time to check on the progress - help the robot, if needed - and get out of here."
But what if that... thing gets loose outside? she wonders.
Rubbing her temples, she suddenly seems very tired. "Maybe we can even try to catch our breath, again," she murmurs.
| The Bot Behind the Screen |
Tofana moves to head back into the lab, but as the door opens it becomes quite apparent that it's a now or never moment. It seems as though the nanite golem has already discorporated through the conduits and made its way there in search of the party... and by happenstance has found it. It quickly turns on the spot as the door opens and begins to march forward.

Once Saeron alerts the party that te golem is in sight, Tofana opens the door to salvation and strides quickly to the computer to check on the outer door's status. Then she returns to wiring the datapad to the gun.
If she is concerned that the golem anticipated their movements, she says nothing.

Tofana unlocks the door back into the command center. Looking in leaves the party with a sense of hope and unease. The sentry is working hard at the door, and has made some serious progress, but is still struggling to get it open wide enough for you to slip though. Maybe another inch and escape will be within sight...

Despair washes over Saeron's face upon hearing the news of the golem's appearance ahead of them. The prophecies of the inner voice were about to come true.
No! she thinks, gathering her resolve. I am stronger than that! I will fight to the very end.
"Whether through luck or this thing is learning and anticipated our movement, we only have one way out," she says to her companions. "There's only so much room around that door and I'm not the strongest of our group."
"I will try to delay it. Now go and get that bloody door open!"
Saeron will take an action depending on her knowledge of the speed of the creature's movement - will it be likely to move within range of attacking her this round?
Saeron Kasari
|
Thanks for the clarication! (And sorry about posting with the wrong profile earlier...)
Hoping her observations and estimations are accurate, Saeron slowly drops back, drawing her pistol. Careful to remain in sight of the creature, she backs up until reaching a spot that she prays is close enough to the door to escape, yet far enough away from the other door and the golem.
Holding her pistol out before her, she fires a single shot to keep the thing's attention on her.

"I had a sick feeling that it would eventually catch on to our game. It seems I have been stuck in my mind trying to figure out this puzzle but now isn't the time." Drift says snapping back to attention. He quickly rushes back to the robot to get ready to help the others out and keep the door open.
Double Move to current position.
| The Bot Behind the Screen |
Saeron takes a potshot at the nanite horror with no effect. The golem seems to have its attention somewhat split however as Teka moves back into the command center. "Let us leave this forsaken place!"
1 Move action made, if we can he would go into the tunnel with his 2nd move action
| The Bot Behind the Screen |
Croaker runs up to the door, fingers twitching as he waits for it to open enough to fit his head through. The nanite horror flies forward, contorting itself to slip into the room.
Finally, the sentry manages to slide the door a little over a foot wide... just enough for you to squeeze through.
@Croaker: It was a full round action for the robot to finish opening it, so it wasn't quite open on your turn, but it is now.
