Good lord. Gameplay (13 new posts).
I hate being busy at the start of a new campaign =(
Got a pretty good roll in the gameplay thread, though!
I think you've just proved that it's quality, not quantity that matters!
Kintargo GM
Man, there's a huge diversity of rolls here. Like, I don't think anyone has gotten below a 20 total for their actions so far. The Knowledge checks haven't been as great, but literally no one has failed in their actions, and more than a few have achieved the highest level of success. xD
Kintargo GM
You guys... the streak continues. I'm giggling so hard right now. I am amused at how focused and efficient you are - you took out the undesirable elements in the first hour, and now are basically unifying a group of disparate interests.
This rebellion thing's off to a good start!
Kintargo GM
To be open with you guys, I will say that Vantine won't get any further benefits from watching the crowd, mechanically speaking. That said, she might still get more interesting information!
Also, just, uh, preemptively... I'm gonna be rolling initiative for the group in this game, just so everyone knows. It's to help keep it moving, and all that.
Mind you, this time's gonna be harder because [Redacted].

Oh, you tease.

Next post is a big one. I am going to need to hold off until tomorrow morning - sorry. Though now that I say that... No, I want to do it justice.

Quick question: Have you decided yet how you're going to present battle maps for encounters (Roll20 or Google Slides seem the most popular options) or will things be theater-of-the-mind?
Alexius Vashnarstill
We seem to be a very charming but not-so-perceptive lot. Hopefully devils and their worshipers are suckers for silver tongues and not ones to use guile or trickery to advance their means.
That’s how devils work, right?
*Nervous laughter*

Google slides is how I've currently got it set up, but I may change that if I feel like Roll20 is better suited... which I doubt, but you know. It could happen!

Exactly! All open and aboveboard, those devils. Right proper they are.

Aisling has Sense Motive as a class skill and I'm going to keep it maxxed out for the duration. I don't have many skill points and I wanted at least 1 point in Know religion because cleric, but I'm going to put the next point into Percreption. It's not a class skill for me but with decent Wis score I can be ok at it. Unless I roll badly.
Nyxra: I realy want to reply to your post, but I haven't a clue waht the Night of Ashes is and I can't find anything in the player's guide. Help a girl out?
Kintargo GM
The Night of Ashes happened shortly before Barzillai arrived to take control of Kintargo. Three notable buildings burned down, and it's suspected that Barzillai was hunting down his potential enemies or trying to create terror. The buildings were the Thrashing Badger, a tavern tavern, the estate of the old noble family of the Victocora, and the Silver Star, a music store.
Kintargo GM
Yes, it is pretty big. One fire might not be noteworthy, but three all in the same night is absolutely worth attention.
Vantine Roubanis
I tried to boost Vantine's skill points per level as best I could, but she won't be very well rounded either. I'm committing a point per level to Diplomacy, Bluff, and UMD, which only leaves a couple of floating points for other things. UMD should help round out the peculiarities of the witch spell list some.
One thing that might be worth considering is more socially oriented games like this one make it harder to get by with just one or two "face" characters. Skills like Diplomacy, Bluff, and Sense Motive might begin to be susceptible to the "stealth quandary" in dungeon crawls, where the stealthiest of stealthy Rogues can be negated because their stealth doesn't apply to the non-stealthy characters they're hanging around with.
It might be painful to do if it's not something a character will be able to focus on, but a few points when possible in social skills for all the characters would probably be a good idea.
Aisling Talbot
Bluff is a good one to have, it isn't something Aisling will be focusing on for obvious reasons!
I can handle Diplomacy, Sense Motive, Intimidate and Perception but that's all my skill points. Whoever at Paizo designed the cleric class doesn't seem to like them much, especially when you consider that Oracles get 4 skill points per level :(
Kintargo GM
Things will start happening either later tonight or tomorrow, depending on whether I can slap together the first initiative and stuff tonight.
Alexius Vashnarstill
You can never have enough skill points
Alexius has a paltry 6 class + 1 human + 1 FCB + 1 Int + 2 background and I still barely got more than half the skills I wanted =(

Truth.
Round 1 - Fight!
EDIT. I think Kintargo GM's hint in the gameplay thred to run away is a good one. My plan is to hold off these three for a round or two, either fighting defensively or with total defence to get my AC up a bit, and then withdraw.
There'll be other times to stick it to The Man, but this is not it.
Jessibel L. Aulamaxa
Jessibel's far from optimized skill-wise (I made her a 'triple threat' by sinking a rank into three Perform categories [act, dance, sing]), partly because she's just that awesome and partly because she might yet try to join what's left of the Kintargo Opera House Society (an organization detailed in Inner Sea Magic with some pretty nice mechanics and boons). Also, I gave up her bonus human skill point each level--plus her bonus feat--to pump up both her Cha and Dex at 1st level with the Dual Talent alternate race trait. I also didn't sink many skill points into Knowledge skills, figuring this reflected that she didn't pay very close attention to her classes in school. Likewise, no points were invested Perception or Stealth because she wants to be the center of attention, not skulk around watching others steal her spotlight!
This will change as her responsibilities and priorities change.
Aisling Talbot
Jessi: not that it matters, but Aisling hasn't drawn her sword yet. Nyxra's gone full lethal though, so I don't think the bad guys will be pulling any punches.
Vantine Roubanis
Yep. Run now, fight another day. Vantine is on her way out of the square.
Vantine spell choices for the day aren't combat optimized. It's the 'I never cast spells day-to-day, but just in case' one. Her only security concern would be a robbery or mugging attempt perhaps so she has Daze, Cause Fear, and Shadow Trap on deck. All of them are good for stopping someone or getting away, but no lethal damage. Blowing someone's head up with Ear Piercing Scream is much harder to explain to the authorities. She's carrying a can of mace rather than a handgun.
Kintargo GM
You mean you don't go around assuming that enemies might jump out at you from every corner and hedge?
Vantine Roubanis
Well, Vantine does also have a little dagger. It has a handle, which she knows is the part one holds it by. The other end is for poking at people. But it's just crazy to believe things would ever come to that!
Jessibel L. Aulamaxa
Jessi: not that it matters, but Aisling hasn't drawn her sword yet.
Oops. I blame that on someone not putting a rank into Perception!

That’s why the Raven isn’t here... I do think the story is more interesting when the PC’s act like actual human beans and not video game characters.
Kintargo GM
Yeah, I have a few ideas of how to handle getting the Raven involved before the plot advances too far. But for now, let me get with the smashy smashy.

”Quickly quickly, little peasants. Make for the river, then disperse along the shoreline. Mind the smaller races! Do not worry for my safety, you pathetic wretches,
LOL. Does the rebellion have like a back-room position we can put Alexius in: one where he doesn't have to come in contact with the general public when we're... ever?
On the subject of teh Raven, it seems it would be easy for Alexius to get lost in the crowd, only to have a new mysterious stranger pop up.
Kintargo GM
I believe he needs 1 minute to change into his vigilante identity, otherwise I'd absolutely agree.
Kintargo GM
Oh, and in case nobody noticed it, there was a very important detail that happened in the very first combat post. Something all your characters saw, and may want to consider in the future as this rebellion thing gets off the ground.
Kintargo GM
Yes, well, just wanted to make sure everyone noticed. It's pretty important. xD
Kintargo GM
I won't always do it, but it's a fairly critical clue. For some of the other foreshadowing, I'll leave it mysterious. Like that one [REDACTED].
Kintargo GM
Despite the hinderances the crowd has caused you guys (minimal), it has spared you a whole lot more pain, 'cause none of the enemies can charge you. Which I have constantly thought they would do, only to remember they can't.
The dottari are more threatening in melee than they are at range, in general, and the CCG don't even have ranged weaponry. To say nothing of the soft cover of the crowd.
I would also point out that Alexius hasn't killed anyone yet. He wounded the thug so badly that the dude ran off. He might be dead now, but he wasn't when Alexius last saw him. (Mind you, it's totally in character for him to disregard that in his social identity, I suspect.)
Kintargo GM
Okay, thank goodness I'm able to sign back in. Had to clear my cache again, but there ya go.
Kintargo GM
It really is. I was panicking yesterday thinking it was only me who wasn't able to log in - I would feel really bad just leaving you guys in the lurch even if it was only for a day.
Vantine Roubanis
I've only just gotten back in. I didn't know about the cache clearing fix until tech support sent it to me.
Kintargo GM
Ouch. That sucks. At least you're able to log in now?
Vantine Roubanis
Yep, It seems like a lot of people know about the cache fix, but in all my time on the boards it had never come up for me before.
Kintargo GM
You guys will have the chance to sit back and chat with one another, but the moment isn't exactly conducive to that. :P
