So far everyone has posted except for Kroone. Hoping he is still on for part 2! Please post something when you can!

Does anyone have that Djini's Favor boon on your chronicle sheet? It comes up a a few times in this scenario. For example, if you have it right now, Jairo actually gives you a nobleman's outfit and jewelry to keep instead of just lending it to you. So make sure you double check to see if you earned it!

Hi guys! Posting it on all my pbps.

Our offshore team at work is very affected by the pandemic at the moment and with the fiscal year approaching to an end, our reduced capacity is terribly affecting my time. For the next several weeks it will likely impact me in such way that I simply won't be able to keep up with the forums, things normalizing only as we start approaching mid June.

For the games where I play, GMs please feel free to bot the characters. If you don't desire to bot me for so long, I completely understand, apologize for the late notice and wish you all the best of fun. If you hold me around, though, I should be back after this storm.

For the games where I host, my sincerest apologies to the players - I won't let you hanging so if you stick around until my return we will give it continuation as normal. Otherwise, please message me and once I'm back I'll recruit replacements.

To everybody, I'm sorry for the late notice and I hope we will continue playing together once I'm back!

Cheers,

Archlich

Not sure what to do about this. Botting someone for several weeks is a lot. It might end up being most of the scenario. And I'd hate to have something consequential happen to your character during this time. For now, I think I'm going to have to say that Kroone will have to sit this scenario out and rejoin us for part 3.

or...and i'm just throwing this out there...we pause the scenario until Kroone can post regularly...just spitballing the idea...no plans with my guy right now...so i can chill...

Sovereign Court

The Dragon's Demand

If people don't mind the scenario going a bit slower than normal, I would be okay with botting Kroone for awhile. You have a dinner party to attend, which should take up a bit of time in play by post.

My biggest concern would be having Kroone die during combat while he's being botted. It's always a possibility, especially as he is playing up. So I'd prefer not having to bot him over more than one combat.

Sovereign Court

The Dragon's Demand

One a side note, I updated some information in the slides. There is a table for the various dignitaries you will need talk to. I think that will help with you guys keeping track of them.

I also put some carpets down. You guys can rearrange them however you'd see fit, but the flying carpets do have weight limits so you should probably limit two passengers per carpet.

Yes, but what does the bird think?

Sovereign Court

The Dragon's Demand

Okay, these dinner party mechanics can get kind of weird, so don't be afraid to ask questions.

To make it clearer, each player can basically make Two checks per guest. One check to improve their attitude, and one check to make a request. The check to improve their attitude can use Diplomacy, but the request for information has another skill that can be used instead. You can aid or make your own check, but only once.

How you approach an NPC and what you say to them matters. That includes whether you're approaching them as a group or one at a time, or in pairs, etc, etc. They are generally indifferent to you at first, but how you approach them, along with other things like race and class may affect their default attitude.

And you can make requests without trying to improve their starting attitude. What improving their attitude does is make the DC for requesting information lower. A friendly person is going to be easier to talk into doing a favor for you than someone that you irritated, right?

This sounds complex, but it is basically how Diplomacy is handled in the core rules, including the DCs the scenario uses, so feel free to brush up on Diplomacy under the Skills chapter if you have a few minutes.

Sovereign Court

The Dragon's Demand

It looks like you'll want Therin to lead those Diplomacy rolls, but anyone who is aiding can also start a conversation. And the ones with alternate skills for Requesting information have that listed in a table I made in the Slides.

I'm afraid I only have +0 in all of the relevant skills, so someone else is going to have to take the lead.

Sovereign Court

The Dragon's Demand

You can still approach people and talk without having to make any rolls, or roll to aid another.

Somebody has to make a first move.

My daughter and son-in-law are visiting tonight through Saturday morning, and we're going museum crawling tomorrow--posting will hence be scarce.

Sovereign Court

The Dragon's Demand

That's cool. We've agreed to take this slow as it is.

Sovereign Court

The Dragon's Demand

Okay, just a reminder...there are two possible checks to make with these NPCs, one to improve their attitude and another to request information (aka requesting a favor). Since you went right into asking Fairuza questions I treated it as if the party was making the request, instead of trying to improve her attitude.

Luckily, you did well enough to get information out of her.

Grand Lodge

I'm just shy of two weeks since my second shot, or I wouldn't have considered it.

Sovereign Court

The Dragon's Demand

OK, so I have put some thought in about Kroone's position in this game and I think I am going to take him out of the game if I don't get a post from him by the start of the next combat.

There's no hard feelings or anything on my part and I would happily have him play at another one of my tables in the future. I get that life gets in the way and he did give us the courtesy of letting us know. But my main concern is that I would really hate a situation coming up where his character dies due to bad luck, such as a nasty critical hit. But I also want to make combats as challenging as possible within the confines of the scenario and I feel like I might have trouble balancing this in a fair way.

There will be a little time before another fight starts, so if he pops in by that time, then this whole issue is mute. But if not, I still intend on offering him a spot for part 3 of this series.

That being said, without his presence, that means that the difficulty for future encounters will drop down to high tier with the four player adjustment.

Grand Lodge

Male Human CG Cleric 6. HP 51/51, AC 22 T 14, FF 1 19, F +7, R +4, W +10, Initiative +1, Perception +7

yeah...it's a tough call...sounds like work has him swamped. darned real life commitments! is the high tier 4 player version signifigantly harder or no?

He did say he'd be tied up until mid-June, but I agree--if we hit a fight, he's the most fragile of us.

Sovereign Court

The Dragon's Demand

It'll be easier. You guys were just barely in high tier right now and you'd just be losing your lowest level player. The four player adjustment will modify the rest of the fights to compensate for you having a smaller number of players.

The only thing I can think of is the gems. I don't think we got anything else, did we? The ring is copper; not sure if that's a clue. I don't think anyone told us any clue for a password. Definitely something to wear on the back side of the ring.

The party is in a metropolis, and it would be easy to purchase a scroll of comprehend languages. You could even get one in the Cloisters here. The reason I'm bringing this up is that it's going to be a much harder check to have the azata help you with this. It's one thing for them to turn a blind eye as you break into the Concordance's personal library, it's another thing for them to actively assist you in the breaking and entering.

Grand Lodge

Male Human CG Cleric 6. HP 51/51, AC 22 T 14, FF 1 19, F +7, R +4, W +10, Initiative +1, Perception +7

That's fair...Therin will purchase one...

Sovereign Court

The Dragon's Demand

Yeah, one weird thing about this scenario is that it basically requires the party to have someone who is capable of speaking Auran in the group. I wish there was some warning that you'd need Auran beforehand or that the venture captain would have given the party a partially charged wand of comprehend language beforehand.

Sovereign Court

The Dragon's Demand

Boy, this scenario is DENSE. I have no idea how someone could run this one in a 4-5 hour slot at a store or convention. Seriously, we're half-way through right now.

Sovereign Court

The Dragon's Demand

I posted a map of the library in the slides. There is going to be a combat in this room coming up and it will be a 3 dimensional fight. That being said, feel free to position your characters wherever you'd like, and even put yourselves on a carpet of flying if that's what your character would be doing.

The map will also include a table for tracking your current elevation. The main people that would be up in the air at this point would be the ones riding on a carpet, which can The ceiling in here is 60 ft. up, but if you don't fill out where your character is at, I will assume they are on the ground.

The carpets of flying are each 10 X 10 feet and can carry up to 800 lbs, which means they can probably safely carry up to three party members, as everyone except for Rhu is wearing moderately heavy armor, making them a little over 200 lbs.

Sovereign Court

The Dragon's Demand

We just have to wrap this scenario up and then we'll be ready to start part 3 soon!

If anybody's curious, Chalissier was an arcanist and also had a feat called cloud gazer. Normally a character could see through five feet of mist, but he could see through a whopping 15 feet! And he did have one more lightning bolt, but I decided to have save that one and use sonic scream instead. I actually didn't want him to kill the party and from a resource management perspective it made sense for him to hold back one high level slot.

Sovereign Court

The Dragon's Demand

Chronicle Sheets

Please let me know what I messed up! I don't anyone had a dayjob to roll or was slow tracking, so let me know!
