Hell's Rebels: The miniseries / movie casting.

I remember something about Rexus (sp?) looking like Tim Curry to some people, including me.

It makes me wonder, does anybody have any actors in their heads for the rest of the cast of NPCs?

Melissa McCarthy becomes Laria Longroads so easily.

In personality I mean, they don't really look alike.

So I saw this several days, maybe a week, ago and began brainstorming. I could only really come up with one, so I decided to wait to post. It slipped into the back of my mind.

That is, until today.

The late great Alan Rickman as the voice of Vendalfek the fairy dragon.

It would b a great tribute.

Indeed.

If Rexus' art wasn't based on Tim Curry, I'll eat my d7.

Olivia Wilde for the strix chick.

Whether or not the artist used Tim Curry as a reference, I can't say. But we didn't suggest it in the art order or provide that reference ourselves. As a general rule, we actually actively try NOT to do this, since making a character intentionally look like a real world person is kinda sketchy and weird, not only in a "it breaks verisimilitude" way but in a way that might be legally tricky to deal with.

I don't really see it myself.

Oh it's there, if you look with it in mind. Especially that smile. I blame the goatee.

My rogue in Rise of the Runelords described Karzoug as "the guy who looks like Phil Collins." Seeing the Deadpool film made some of my group more accepting of being meta.

On the main topic, I imagine Vendalfek as being voiced by Gilbert Gottfried.

See I always thought Rexus looked a lot like Dorian from Dragon Age Inquisition.

I do hear (and do my best to imitate) Tim Curry in the speeches Barzillai Thrune makes though. I think I spent too mucg time watching clone wars

I actually switched out his picture for images of Dorian from DAI, myself. I liked the feel and it gave me a larger pool of pictures to work with for a very reoccurring NPC.

I did the same thing with Laria - using DAI's Sera. Just the face though. I just really liked how playful she looked.

I would like to try and perform necromancy on this as I am looking at starting this soon. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this topic (the OP part). Or do most not feel the need to assign actors to NPCs...?

Half of my group listen to the Glass Cannon Podcast and a big thing they do is casting their characters and NPCs to allow an image to form in the mind

I am currently thinking Barzillai needs to be intimidating with the ability to pull of a flamboyant edge. I am thinking Rufus Sewell as I think he is a good villain. Or potential Ralph Fiennes (he minced around quite a bit for Voldemort)

I'd like to try and keep things a bit more contemporary (so no "young Tim Curry" for Rexus). That said I haven't thought much further for the other NPCs

I imagine book 1 needs for definite:

Barzillai
Rexus
Laria
Nox

Others:

Zea
Clenchjaw
Azvernathi (probably doesn't survive long enough for this to be needed)
Blosodriette

I will try and think more another time

Necroing this thread...

Recently kicked off running Hell's Rebels for the second time, and we just finished Book 1. As big GCP fans, I committed early on to getting the major players "casted". These are the NPCs that have shown up so far:

Rexus Victocora - Colin Hanks
Laria Longroad - Carey Mulligan
Zea - Billie Lourde (I play Zea like her character in Booksmart)
Clenchjaw was an uncredited Tom Hardy, as we had a very brief scene with him
Azvernathi Raul - Sam Rockwell (probably the only reason they let him live tbh)
Nox - Rebecca Hall
Iylvana Desdoros - Penelope Cruz
Tombus Regegious - Adrian Brody (really struggled with this guy)
Maercin Kelimber - Owen Wilson

In "Turn of the Torrent" we may meet the following:

Octavio Sabinus - Thomas Haden Church
Setrona Sabinus - Maya Rudolph
Lady Mialari Docur - Michelle Pfeifer
Hetamon Haace - Henry Golding
Elia Nones - Olivia Munn
Captain Sargaeta - Javier Bardem
Luculla Gens - Mila Kunis

And of course, the main man himself, Barzilla Thrune. Who is played by JK Simmons.

Our heroes, our Silver Ravens... are played by Diego Luna, Maya Hawke, Mako (must've been filmed before he passed...) and David Mazouz.#

The Cast List is kept updated here.. But you'll see a bunch of homebrew characters in there as well...

Would love to hear if anyone has further casting suggestions for the remainder of the books!

Just a friendly reminder that all necromancy is appropriate and acceptable.

Some great castings here, some of which I’m gonna swipe! In my mind, here’s what we’ve got.
Barzillai Thrune: Jude Law. Matches one of the art pieces really well, and honestly as much as barzillai is presented as a kind of flamboyant villain, I have thus far played him as a very straight laced, military patriot type guy because that will be better received by my party (including a tiefling and tengu). I also think this will boost the impact of his later actions, as it is revealed to be a ruse.
Rexus idk about, I didn’t like his original character art so I did my own and it looks very different (mostly I think he looked older? And my PCs are all in their early 20’s so it felt weird.)
Might be an oddball but for Jackdaw, I was honestly picturing up to now an older Natalie Dormer but because of her age and role in the story, I think Laura Dern is kind of stuck in my head too.

About halfway through book 1, here's what our cast looks like so far.

Barzillai Thrune - Mark Strong
Rexus Victocora - Elliot Fletcher
Laria Longroads - Sinead Cusack
Zea - Zendaya
Nox - Sarah Jessica Parker
Hetamon Haace - Lee Pace
Morgar Manthai - Josh Hartnett

Sabo the Spider is definitely Portia de Rossi, specifically her role in Better Off Ted.

Based off her art and vibe, I see her as Tilda Swinton.

Here's a few more casting rumors for Book 2:

Setrona Sabinus - Carrie Coon

Octavio Sabinus - Chris Evans

Luculla Gens - Lauren Graham

Tayacet Tiora - Awkwafina

Varl Wex - Tony Dalton

Cassius Sargaeta - Finn Jones
