Cevrik's eyes go wide as he sees Dumpling take that big hit from the golem, then his eyes narrow angrily as he says, quietly but intensely, "Let's finish this useless firewood off," and he urges the bear dog to keep up the attack while he himself turns his focus to defense.
Aid Another to Boost Dumpling's AC: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Ride Check: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Ummm, weird thing happened. I had forgotten to type in "dice=" for my aid another, but had gotten a 21 on my ride check. When I went back in to edit the aid another, it also re-rolled my ride check and it dropped by 10...

Mr. Dumplington |

The bear dog howls in rage and continues its onslaught on the golem.
Bite: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 2 = 161d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Claw 1: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 2 = 211d4 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Claw 2: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 6 + 2 = 241d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

GM Mauve |

Cevrik doesn't have to worry about the golem anymore since Mr. Dumplington absolutely destroys it.
All is quiet as the dust settles. Cevrik goes up and pulls the last shield from the grip of the destroyed construct's hands. And its heavy... very heavy. Weighs more than Cevrik! About 60 pounds. Maud tests the other shield - 60 pounds as well.

Willard drops the glob of acid he had conjured, and slowly makes his way down to the golem, inspecting it for clues after he casts detect magic...
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
This is fascinating! A wood Golem, so well preserved here in this place, and linked to these shields! Way to go everyone, you did great! Wish I could have helped more. the Ulfen turns back to the golem continuing to inspect it, and jotting down some notes on its construction in a notebook...

![]() |

"It's very well-constructed, I'm almost sad we destroyed it." Maud hefts the shield that says 'home' and attempts to attach it to her pack.

![]() |

Dominic comes over to examine the fallen golem with the others. "I wonder if that key we found fits in here." He points to the golem's back. "Maybe we could have used it instead, but I don't think I fancy climbing up a dangerous golem like that."

![]() |

Good job, guys. I couldn't use my fire spell..it covers an area and doesn't discern friend from foe. I can heal those wounds..one moment. Carlin says almost apologetically as she gets out a wand and taps Maud and Sir Dumplington with it.
clw Maud: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
clw Sir D: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
clw Sir D: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
3 charges fro my wand of CLW...

![]() |

Maud stretches her previously injured shoulder and thanks you. I have a couple scrolls of CLW so we can use one of those on me instead of your wand to save you charges :)
Does the door to the south have a keyhole or anything?

Mr. Dumplington |

Dumpling seems a bit curious as Carlin pokes him with a stick, but as it causes him to feel better, he immediately, and not entirely ungently, rubs his muzzle against her in a not entirely uncatlike way.

![]() |

Seeing Carlin heal the wounded bear dog, Cevrik says, "Amazing! Is there nothing my lady cannot do? Truly impressive powers and I am humbled to be in your presence," and he gives her a bow.

GM Mauve |

Carlin pulls out a wand and zaps Maud and Mr. Dumplington. Their wounds slowly stitch up. The dog bear nuzzles her in thanks.
While the others are healing up, Dominic suggests inserting the key into the back of the golem. However, the bear did a number on the construct and the keyhole is hard to find. Dominic eventually finds the right place to insert it - nothing happens.
To the south lies a single door. The 'stairs' are still slides and anyone would need to climb up it DC 10 Climb check to climb the slides

![]() |

Who's a good boy...yes you are... Carlin rubs the top of Dumplington's head as he nuzzles her. Oh you too... she grins as she pinches Cevrik's cheek. When they try to climb she looks around.
Anyone want to try it? I don't have anything heavy to weigh me down, but climbing isn't exactly my strong suit...

![]() |

Dominic slides down the stairs-turned to slopes. "Good work, Dumplington. Serves him right for being just a giant stick."
He moves over to the door and tries to listen to hear anything behind it.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

![]() |

Cevrik absolutely melts into the cheek pinch, then seems to realize people are watching and tries to regain some composure as he mutters, "Oh, yes. Umm, of course, m'lady." And then he inspects the door to the south for traps after Dominic is finished listening.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

![]() |

South part of the room (including door) is lower than north part of the room. All you have to do is jump or slide down to reach the door, the problem is getting back up.
Maud inspects the other shield on the Golem to see if it is easily detachable as well.

![]() |

Do you want me to come down there and we can all check the door together, or should someone throw us a rope and maybe we can help get you out of the slides? Willard asks, trying to figure out the best plan.

![]() |

"Leaving a rope in place might not be a bad idea," Cevrik muses. "I mean, we might need to make our way back that direction at some point regardless...possibly in a hurry depending on what we find deeper in this crypt."
He then realizes that may not sound like the brave knight he tries to present himself as and adds, "I mean, tactically, high ground is advantageous, tactically speaking."

![]() |

Cevrik, do you have a rope? I don't, but throw one up to me and we'll leave it here so we can get back up? Willard says to the halfling, while Munnin flaps around his head squawking in Ulfen at the man..
Munnin Knowledge Engineering: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Munnin Knowledge Dung: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7
That's ridiculous Munnin, we don't have a portable ladder with us... Where would any of us keep a twelve foot ladder? The Ulfen responds irritated to his familiar.

![]() |

"I..." cevrik begins, looking around at himself and Dumpling, "that is...no. I don't."
Barding is expensive for a start-from-scratch character!

![]() |

"Is there nothing this woman cannot do?" Cevrik asks in a quiet and awe-filled voice, more impressed than one should probably be by an adventurer having rope.

![]() |

Maud will also pull out her rope. "If we need to leave in a hurry, it would be better to have 2 methods of escape, don'tcha think? Although..." she inspects the room. "I'm not sure I see anything for us to tie the top end to..."

![]() |

I don't understand what you're trying to say. The golem and shields are on the lower part. Do you mean climbing them? That would require us to move the golem close enough to the center to climb on, and I think it is probably too heavy? We need something stationary or quite heavy on the top part to anchor the rope and tie it to.

![]() |

ooh, maybe we could tie a rope to the door?

GM Mauve |

Carlin: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Cevrik: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Dominic: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Maud: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Mr. Dumplington: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18
Willard: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Willard and Carlin notice something. Pressure plates! Right where the golem was standing. When Cevrik had gone down the stairs, the golem had stepped off the plate, causing the slide to form.

![]() |

"Maybe we can push the golem back onto the plate? It's heavy. It might take all of us pushing on it to move it." Dominic begins to try and shift the golem back to it's original position.
Str check, aid: 1d20 ⇒ 3

![]() |

Knowing she isn't up to full strength, Maud gestures to Mr. Dumplington to help push...
STR check, aid (3 STR damage): 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 3 - 1 = 12

![]() |

Maud plus 2 shields is 270 pounds, so maybe?
Maud likes Willard's suggestion better, so stops pushing the golem and picks up both shields and totters over to the pressure plate.

![]() |

Maud will methodically experiment with weights on the pressure plate - first just her weight (160lbs sorry I was slightly off before) and then her and 1 shield (220lb) and then both shields weight (120lbs) and lastly just one shield (60lb). If all or most of those trigger it then I'd say we have options.
Maud is good at acrobatics, she is fine running up the slides to go last. For now she will stand on the pressure plate while we open the door in case we need a quick escape. "I really only need to carry one of these heavy shields for now, anyone else want one?"

![]() |

I thought I'd already checked the door, but I guess not
Cevrik starts inspecting the door for traps.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

![]() |

Willard will follow Carlin once nothing pops out to eat her, Oh ho! What do we have here? Hell say crossing to the table and observing the items with out touching them.

GM Mauve |

Willard walks in to the room. There are actually five different baggies. As he approaches, he notices something. They're labelled. One says "Willard", one says "Cevrik", one says "Dominic", one says "Carlin", and the last says "Maud".
The arcanist detects magic - definitely magic emanating from these bags!
