Vanish is a sadly APG.

"I would agree on a silent approach if at all possible. Perhaps we can take Albis' beasts by surprise?"

Turning to Niza, he inquires "Did Albis happen to say if the gray ones seemed to be watching the stairs?"

"I would gladly take point, if that's fine with you all." he adds.

Eying the stares as he considers the situation, he winks at Dimple. "Heck! If you'd like, I'll hustle up them and cover your silent approach if you'd like. I mean, I've heard Ms Dimple's singsong speaches a few times now...perhaps I could even talk them into an accord before you made it up."

Niza raises her brow at Dimple, "Who is Mr. Shadowpants?"

Turning towards the Summoner she smiles, "Of course, can't you with Danny Boy?"

Niza is going towards Arcane Trickster and probably should have only gone 3 wizard instead of 5 as well, but 5 wizard gives her beast shape and as a 'turn yourself into something else to do things' focused PC, that made a lot more sense. The side benefit is that Albis is also a lot stronger and useful at 5.

____________________

Then she turns to the OTHER half-elf, "Oh, you don't think I can lead? I see. I wonder what Dimple sees in you anyway."

Albis coos a few sounds to her, "My friend says he can't get any closer as the sentries appeared to be keeping a close eye on the entire platform and at least the top of the stairs. They had crossbows and he didn't feel like becoming a pin cushion." She looks up at the stairs, "I'll probably shift into bird form for this battle, but that means no enlarge person or other spells after that point. Do we want to go with the 'send Liet-Gar in as a distraction and target' tactic as he suggested and if so does he want to be really big for it?"

Note: the GM added a little info behind the scenes for me to share.

Spell Templates by GM Tiger | Citadel Core | Core To Scale the Dragon |

Just to add a tiny bit of mechanical detail. The top 20 ft of the steps are partially visible to the sentries but still provide cover. So if you are sneaky enough you can still stealth up through that section. But once on the platform itself there is not enough cover to allow for stealth.

If considering avoiding the stairs, climbing up the walls or mountain would be treated as "a rough surface, such as a natural rock wall or a brick wall." And that also won't guarantee you won't be seen once you get to the top.

Dimple pulls out a wand, "How about a distraction?"

Wand of Silent Image. What if a mysterious fog rolled in? They would have to 'interact' with the fog to get a saving throw, something hard to do from so far away. You would all know it's an illusion, so would have a bonus to disbelieve the fog. Or, I could bring the rogue eidolon flying in from the west to draw their fire. Thoughts?

Alright, without a concrete plan developed I'll just use the SOP. This should still allow the use of illusions or mist if/when discovered.

Everyone moves quietly up the steps, Niza and Liet-Gar side by side. One of them a lot quieter than the other. Getting to the top section they can see the four grey-dwarf sentries on the balcony standing guard.

Fortunately, they don't seem to notice as the two in front slowly sneak up the last twenty feet. In fact, they don't even notice as the rest of the group makes it up the stairs.

Liet-Gar adopts a defensive stance and steps up onto the platform, "Friends of Stone and Iron, we come in peace."

He looks back at Dimple with a small smile. It looks like his diplomacy course at the local Community College is paying off!

Dimple inspires all of the things! Well, at least the combat and charming fear things.

The two enemies don't quite know what to do. Firstly, they got blasted by glitter. Then this dude just spoke to them in common. Fortunately they know common. It is the language of the surface world... and their enemies. They both step to the side, draw heavy crossbows and fire at Liet-Gar.

Red vs. LGZ - Dazzled: 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 3 - 1 = 12
Blue vs. LGZ - Dazzled: 1d20 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 3 - 1 = 21

But even with excellent aim on one of the shots, Liet-Gar deflects the bolt with his gauntlet.

Dimple easily identifies these creatures as Duergar, often known to be Lawful Evil, they are Medium Humanoids (Dwarf). The have a weakness to bright light, which is obviously affecting them right now. They are quite strong vs spells (+2 on saves vs. spells). They are immune to Paralysis, Phantasms and Poison. And lastly they have two self only spell-like abilities, Enlarge Person and Invisibility.

*Immunity to bleed, disease, death effects, necromancy effects, paralysis, poison, sleep effects, and stunning.

Dimple holds a beautifully crafted prism high so that it catches the light and a rainbow of colors flash all over the area. The group's focus intensifies with the blessing of a goddess.

One of the two remaining Duergar hacks up at Niza, then steps to the side to reduce the risk of being flanked.

LGZ darts forward, using his momentum to push his strike past the guard of the demon dwarf, right into his chest. He pushes right through the ribs and then continues along, leaving the collapsed body of his victim on the ground.

The other one slashes at him, finally speaking in common, "You'll pay fer dat!"

Arboreal very wisely runs away. That construct is beating him like a watermelon at a Gallagher show.

Niza shows the world why evolution created claws and beaks. They do quite a wonderful job at destroying other creatures. Her first three strikes were enough to drop the Duergar, but the last one was just for fun. It is a bloody mess in front of her.

Kasvot begins moving the flaming sphere towards the animated statue--wondering all the while if it would even have an effect--and he continues his movement up the stairs to gather with the other Pathfinders.

Actions:

Standard (move-equivalent): redirect flaming sphere 30' (assuming 20' drop to ground; it can move farther if that drop is less)
Move: 40' (60' movement cost with difficult terrain)

I told Liet-Gar it was a 10 ft drop in a PM so I'll stick with that. The scenario doesn't list it so... 10 ft it is! I adjusted the flaming sphere to be 10 feet farther. It probably can't hurt the 10 hardness iron statue though. But we'll see what happens!

The rumbling thing takes a step towards Dimple and then... creaks to a stop? Dimple is allowed the time to flee if she wishes.

A few moments pass, only the blood dripping off Niza's claws and beak break the silence.

Then about sixty feet above the platform a small creature materializes with their hands up, "Woah Woah there, I surrender and stuff. I ain't gonna fight you. So, you all hate Duergar, eh?"

Iron Statue?
New Critter?

Bold may act! You have a full round of actions after the Iron Statue stopped moving if you wish to use them. Then you have any reactions to the reveal of this little critter. The critter image is on the map now. He is flying 60 feet up in the air.

If Trained, you may roll Knowledge “Planes”. With a success on your roll I will ID the creature. This ID will include basic type/subtype and one tidbit of knowledge. I will dole out the tidbits starting with signature special abilities and then working to more mechanical things like DR and other resistances. Multiple rolls from multiple players, assuming they both beat the DC, will grant additional information and not duplicate tidbits.

Kasvot seems to recognize this creature as a Spirit Oni, a LE Outsider. They are rarely known to fight on their own, instead having the ability to animate specific constructs created for them to fight instead.

Arboreal thinks it's probably a bird.

"Oh I'm from here. Always have been. Had a nice special spot in the mountain that those bastards destroyed before pressing me into their service. I figure... maybe someone tough enough like you all could come along and we could help each other out?"

Dimple blurts out, "No they didn't!" She points at Aboreal, "He sparkled them first, then they defended themselves, and then we...and they...and now they're all...well...um...yeah." Dimple takes little solace in the fact that they were probably evil. Killing dead stuff 'n monster-y things is okay, but why do we hafta kill things that can talk?

It is clear that after all this time, Dimple still struggles with the violence that seems to come part and parcel with being an explorer in the employ of The Pathfinder Society.

Dimple recognizes the Oni as well. She recalls that it has a number of spell-like abilities, most importantly is the ability to use Invisibility at will. It also has a poisoned horn attack (Charisma harming!) it can use as well as fast healing.

It does a bit of a flying bow as the group doesn't seem that intent on harming it right now.

"I am Tanbaru by the way and am at your service if you agree to help me. It's a simple request, you can help me wipe the smug look off the boss of those Duergar and I can help you navigate through their complex to find him. If you did not know, there are a LOT of those buggers in there and they regularly patrol around. And in case you are of the legalistic nature, when I say 'wipe the smug look of his face' I mean kill him."
