Wow. Thanks for dropping a note here — I don't follow the blogs as close as I should. I really appreciate it when Pathfinder/Starfinder writers can do justice to important issues like PTSD and Survivor's Guilt while also embodying the setting so well.
An evocative and moving story to start my day. And it comes in a moment when I needed something like that — thanks!

I am really glad that you liked it, Doug!
Hmm
Gurmire |
@GM Doug,
Gurmire has the Streetwise feat. Since you mentioned Gather Information, will I be able to use Society instead of Diplomacy to Gather Information?
I believe I should be able to, but figured it is best to check before rolling.
GM Doug H |
Yes. Now, I should mention that the diplomacy check is higher than the other skill checks by 2. I will use that same DC for Streetwise.
I also edited my post to reflect that; thanks for asking!
Iniquity Pen |
Performance is my strongest at +9 by far, so I'd be most useful at Shik's.
Everything else the highest I could pull out is +5, if that.
Gurmire |
Go for Shik’s, work to your strengths!
Gurmire (because of streetwise) has a +10 for Gather Information which is effectively worth a +8 because the DC is two higher for Gather Information. This can be used in any area.
He will start with Crafting because his skill is much higher there, but he can help with some of the areas that others have problems with.
GM Doug H |
You can also go to the same places. I don't see anything in the scenario that says you can't!
Also, Shores of Heaven is one of my favorite Season 9 Scenarios!

Solely for the sake of conversation:
I don't think I'm revealing anything new about the forum's functionality to this group--I avoid talking about it in front of anyone who might be tempted to abuse it. I preview my rolls when the result changes the visible outcome of what I am doing, like knowing what color the Splash of Art is or how well I perform or if I fail a saving throw, etc. Sometimes the critical fail just... doesn't fit the character, is just something that the character should be able to at least perform a mediocre result with minimal effort (lament the Take 10 here). Now, critically failing a theater performance with Iniquity is not as conceptually grating as rolling a 1 on my Animal druid's expert Nature roll to Recall Knowledge on a common animal (Iniquity's not supposed to be the best actor and playwright, but it's still grating.
Consequently, I said to myself, well, a critical fail here is the same as a critical fail anywhere. I'll just reskin that as a failed Religion check in the market and put up a disclaimer so they know what I did. Then a little memory said, "Psst. That's not the same." I had rebuilt a while back to streamline stats and move around feats. As a result of that, I have the Student if Canon feat, which makes my failures less bad. Face palm. So back to flubbing the Performance roll.
I'm already starting to find it hard to keep track if my abilities, and I'm only 3rd level.
Oh, speaking of abilities, given the name, I should probably choose a different rune for the barrow.
Pip Hip Hooray |
Okay, I've just updated Pip to note the spending of the hero points and the campaign coin. Pip is now out. Can we get hero points noted correctly either in people's headers or on Doug's slide?
Iniquity Pen |
Before I burn Pip’s coin: it’s only good for rerolls? Not stabilizing a character? I don’t want to use up a last resort save on just trying to get more treasure bundles unless that’s what you all want. :)
Gurmire |

My reading of it is that it is a full hero point for her, but only a reroll for others.
A crit fail puts the whole group back a step. I generally wouldn’t want to use it for a normal failure, but think it is a pretty good use of it to hopefully cancel a critical failure.
GM Doug H |

I had 2 Hero Points on my slide for Iniquity but he had used them both already.
If I had noticed he was at 0 hero points (I see them in the character byline, thanks for tracking them there too, it's my fault I didn't look there and looked at my slide instead), I would have awarded Iniquity a hero point for the flavorful use of the Splash of Art spell after the last combat. (And it was probably time to hand another out anyway)!
So, go ahead and use this new Hero Point, Iniquity. Or use the Campaign Coin, and then have the Hero Point anyway!
I will also be awarding at least one hero point after you finish investigating the village.
GM Doug H |
I have a 1E home game today and need to prep a 2E game for roll20 tomorrow night. I probably won't be pushing us ahead until the morning, but you have found out a LOT of information and might be able to use that information to your advantage or somehow prepare (choose different signature spells, make anti-undead alchemical items, etc). There are no rules for purchase limits in the town so common level 1-2 items, in limited quantity, seems reasonable. They are mostly here for farming and trade goods and not magical adventurers.
This will be the final encounter, so we are looking great on finishing before Gameday begins. I will also hand out hero points before you get there!

Just an OOC FYI: Iniquity took the Shining Oath, so DR from Glimpse of Redemption is 7 vs. Undead.

I didn’t have time to deal with this over the weekend.
It looks to me like Ghost Charge from APG is better for me than Holy Water when fighting undead. It does Positive damage, so unlike Holy Water it can’t hurt evil beings. However, when fighting undead it should be more effective for Gurmire than Holy Water.
Let me know if I’m missing some subtle point that would make Holy Water better. In the mean time, I’m setting my daily preparations for extra ghost charges!
Note that since Holy Water is a simple weapon, it may be better for others than an alchemical Bomb. Bombs are martial weapons.
GM Doug H |
I hadn't seen this bomb yet! Neat. I have noticed not every undead in 2e is weak to positive, but they tend to have other resistances so this is still a great bomb.
I moved the tokens to the other side. You can totally start from there and avoid the log (hopefully…)
GM Doug H |
Gurmire's placement makes sense to me! Thanks for checking.

Doug and Gang --
I got a mild concussion this weekend, and I'm not thinking that clearly. Pip can swap out her primal cantrip that she gets as being a gnome. Can someone advise me of something they'd like me to do? Or just bot me?
Hmm

Oh no!!
How about we pause for a day or two for you to recover and catch up. We’re ok on time and I would rather use 24-48 hours to give you a chance to recover and have an enjoyable finish to the game.
I am going to plan on that and pause here until Wednesday night, unless I hear otherwise.
Feel better!!

Heh. I saw your unedited original, and I was going to say it usually takes more than a day before reading--let alone reading on a computer--is comfortable after even a minor concussion.
Pip, whenever you do get back to reading the boards: I'm sorry. Feel better! And disrupt undead is a solid cantrip vs. undead.
GM Doug H |
Yeah, it can definitely take several days or more. I am fine waiting longer if needed too. We can probably finish this combat in 4-5 days tops, and as far as I understand we're all just looking to finish before Gameday.
Just let us know when you're feeling better, Pip!
Gurmire |

Wednesdays are always busy for HMM and I. We will both be doing final touchup on a VTT and then running it that night.
Assuming she does the sensible thing and accepts your kind offer, might want to stall until Thursday.
GM Doug H |
Fine by me!
Pip Hip Hooray |
Thursday sounds good. Clarity has been mostly improving, but I've had intermittent brain fogs over the last 24 hours.
Pip Hip Hooray |
Okay, it's still Thursday -- right? My brain is mostly clear, though I am still suffering a little from the whiplash of the accident. Still, I do feel a lot better.
Let's do the thing.
Hmm
GM Doug H |
Yay! I went offline early last night but posted this morning — you're up, Pip!

Packet, don't go giving them a tasty target to swarm around outside of my reach. :)

Packet could also delay to let the champ bring them in closer while he's hiding and then maybe have a flank!
GM Doug H |
Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think Iniquity gets a reaction since he has now used a ready action to Strike as a Reaction this turn.
Iniquity Pen |
I believe you're correct. I went and read it, since it's been a while since I've used a Readied Action, and it says I use my reaction. Since I don't regain them until the start of my turn, that's it.
Pip Hip Hooray |
I wish my range were better on that Disrupt Undead. On the other hand, it's good to concentrate attacks, right?
Hmm
GM Doug H |
Was looking up your spell DC for my skeleton's Basic Save on Disrupt Undead; shouldn't your spell DC be 19, not 18, Pip? (Training = 3+2)+(casting stat=4)=19. But it says 18 on your profile under "Spell DC."
The skeleton made the DC 18/19 save anyway but I wanted to drop a note here about it.
Pip Hip Hooray |
Oh, my spell DC probably should be what you listed. I likely haven't updated that number since first level... I'm not the greatest with PF2! Thanks for catching that.
Hmm
GM Doug H |
We're all finished up, but feel free to post any RP scenes you want!
I'll try to get chronicles tomorrow; you got all 10 treasure bundles. If you have not rolled earn income yet, please do so.
Iniquity Pen |
Thank you, GM Doug. This was great!
Downtime: 6 days = +6 days to Practiced Medic (total 8)
2 days = Earn Income Perform (E) vs DC 15: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 x 2 days
Gurmire |
Thanks again for another fun game! Good luck with your PbP GD games.
Downtime
Earn Income, Lore Arson E: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (12) + 12 = 24
Packet Spoonshine |
Another great game! Thanks again all, and to Doug for running!
Underworld Lore: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Pip Hip Hooray |
I get to level Pip to Level 4 now! Huzzah!
Legal Lore (E): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
Hmm

Feat 4th: LINGUIST DEDICATION
ARCHETYPE DEDICATION
Prerequisites You speak at least three languages. You have studied languages and their development. You become trained in Society; if you were already trained in Society, you instead become an expert in Society. You gain the Multilingual skill feat twice. Special You can't select another dedication feat until you have gained two other feats from the linguist archetype.
Does anyone want to help this gnome polyglot pick out her next six languages? I'm thinking that the first four should be the various elemental tongues. But then I need to figure what other languages I should pick up. Oprak would speak Goblin, correct? And there are all those regional human languages...
I decided that this little gnome lawyer would be more effective at defending people if she understood the language of the law. And for my skill feat, sign language. Because why not? I doubt if I'll ever meet a Deaf elemental in a PFS scenario, but if I do, I'll be prepared.
Gurmire |

Since it is a trade language but a little more difficult to get than most others, I would suggest Undercommon. The only heritages that normally have access to it are Human and Dwarven.
The Pathfinder Society is going to be working closely with Kobolds, so Draconic seems appropriate.
Note that on CRB Table 2-2, Aklo is listed as being the language of Evil Fey. With your fey connection strengthening, I would think that may also be a language to consider.
GM Doug H |
I never noticed that Multilingual lets you choose uncommon languages too. Neat! I am going to definitely use that when I rebuild my Mastermind rogue.
You can only get regional languages with regional access boons, right?

Bonus Languages
A character with a high Intelligence score can select bonus languages from the list of modern human languages above or the bonus languages listed in the source for the character’s ancestry.
——
I read the above as anyone can get any of the regional languages, regardless of race or home region. That means Tien is open to anyone.
