Erinyes Summons Bone Devil Question

What does this mean?

Quote:
1/day—summon (level 3, 2 bearded devils, 50%)

Does that 50% mean they start with less health or half the level or what? Sadly I am at work at can't seem to find that answer on SRD.

When a summon spell-like ability has a percentage noted it is the chance of the successfully summoning listed creatures - so the erinyes has 50% chance of summoning two bearded devils. If the roll fails the summon is wasted without effects.

No the 50% chance is the chance it works. So when they cast it, if you roll a 50% or higher they bring over the summoned creature, lower and the summons fails.

Edit: Ninja'd

Jeez thats powerful...my PCs will NOT like this...

Thanks for the help!

Yeah the summon ability is factored into the creatures CR. Also another thing your PC's won't like. No Xp for the summoned creature. Here is the whole blurb about it, I bolded the xp part.

PRD wrote:
A creature with the summon ability can summon other specific creatures of its kind much as though casting a summon monster spell, but it usually has only a limited chance of success (as specified in the creature’s entry). Roll d%: On a failure, no creature answers the summons. Summoned creatures automatically return from whence they came after 1 hour. A creature summoned in this way cannot use any spells or spell-like abilities that require material components costing more than 1 gp unless those components are supplied, nor can it use its own summon ability for 1 hour. An appropriate spell level is given for each summoning ability for purposes of Will saves, caster level checks, and concentration checks. No experience points are awarded for defeating summoned monsters.

Yea but I got tired of doing the whole experience thing for the AP we are playing so I just tell them when they level up lol. So much easier this way.

Just find it odd that the creators/writers put a CR8 Erinyes that can summon 2 CR9 Bone Devils in a spot where the PCs should be level 7. It will most definitely be an entertaining fight to say the least.

Actually, the Erinyes has a chance to summon 2 CR5 Bearded Devils, not 2 Bone Devils.

Which AP is that? Erinyes should not be summoning bone devils. I would check the AP boards to see if it was a typo.

PS:You can put the AP name in spoilers if you choose to answer. :)
