Venari greets the Venture captain warmly, finally noticing the splashes from their tea mug and wiping it with the sleeve of their ragged coat. Nodding along they breathe a sigh, "Ambassador sitting duty eh? Sounds nice and easy!" they laugh, finishing off the cake they had taken. The Damai listens to Shokil's information with a wide smile - "Got it - no 'pressgang' humour! Hylax is alright, so long as Celly doesn't wince every time the ambassador speaks!"

"Can't think of any question - do what they require, play nice and get back for tea - hope the evening's spread matches!"

Then, after a pause adds. "And why does the ambassador of a peace loving people carry around a whacking great hammer?"

I'd rather have a diplomatic mission than a bug hunt ..... ooops ... sorry sir ... that was rather ... rude of me she sighed as her 'glow' dimmed a bit. A trox .... Maybe I'm going to have to lie on my own couch for a while.

Soooo .... does this gentlebeing have any foibles that we should know about? .. and .. where does he? she? it? they .... how does one address this ambassador ...... want to go?

Chiskisk cocks his head and looks very directly at Celly while she speaks. "I apologize for any discomfort or inconvenience this mission may cause you, agent. My choices for personnel were limited by the spontaneity of the ambassador's request, and the other Venture Captains, whose requisitions are apparently more important than mine."

"You, in particular, were chosen for your religious affinity with the Hammer. The Forever Queen is an odd choice of deity for one with an metaphysical allergy to insectoid species. I will see the allergy is noted in your file. However, there is no time to replace you on this mission.

"The ambassador may be addressed as Ambassador, Your Honor, or the Hammer of Hylax. During my negotiations I found she responded best when addressed in third person. Does one understand?"

Skorpahlich wrote:

"How do we know this one isn't one of the spies you mentioned?"

When Skorpahlich speaks, Chiskisk turns to face the odd vesk directly. The shirren straightens up suddenly, adding another 15 centimeters to its height. It's arms flare slightly from its body.

"After weeks of work by my staff and myself, and several days of personal negotiation, I am quite sure that the ambassador is no spy.

"If my assurance is not good enough for you, at least take care to conceal any such suspicions from her. She is an exceedingly gentle, refined, and sensitive sentient."

Shokil wrote:

"The trox are another multiarmed race. You know, sometimes I think it would be handy to have more arms."

He shrugs, red eyed. "Ouch, too early for that kind of word play, sorry, totally unintentional."

Chiskisk turns his full attention toward the halfling. "Quite too early."

Shokil wrote:

He shrugs "Anyway, they worship Hylax, goddess of peace and diplomacy and protector of the weak. So they might appreciated some questions about her... so long as we don't confuse her with hylux, goddess of transport. Respectful folk, respectful."

He eyes up the group. "Anyway, during 'the seeding' which sounds like some kind of dispora, their groups got scattered and many enslaved, so they don't like any form of slavery, including magic that summons or cooerces people. I'm guessing browbeating locals would be seen as a no-no. So we have to play extra nice and kind."

Giving the two former 'free captains' a look he adds "So no pirate jokes would be my suggestion, lets tone down our more colourful pasts."

"Shokil has chosen quite different wording than I would use, but his communication is largely accurate."

Celly is not the only one to bristle at the shirren's retorts. When Chiskisk adjusts his posture aggressively, the still taller vesk starts to pull his lips back and begins to expose his impressive set of razor sharp teeth. But just as soon as he does, he quickly catches what he's about to do.

Best not to make a scene. This one outranks me here.

He turns the motion into a cough and takes a quick sip of coffee to cover his initial reaction.

"As you say," he replies instead with the tiniest of nods.

"With nothing know of her homeworld, are we expected to also try to glean more useful information about this colony?"

Chiskisk listens carefully to Celly and Skorpahlich, then turns his attention to the ceiling before speaking.

"Maybe I was too harsh. I have been upset that the Venture Captains are not supporting this initiative. They do not think it is as important as their projects. I apologize for venting my vexation on you. "

"Both of you have made excellent suggestions. While your primary mission as hosts is the safety and satisfaction of the ambassador, it would be useful to learn as much as you can about her Honor's colony. However, you must not give the impression that you are 'pumping' her for information.

"The art idea is quite interesting. Perhaps that is why she wishes to meet Jebodah Hamisfore, owner of the Hamisfore Theatorium, to learn more about us through our cultural arts.

"In addition she wishes to do a little shopping, and some sight seeing."

"I have here," he holds up a credstick , "500 credits, an advance on your expenses. The Society will reimburse additional costs, however, all your receipts must be in order, and although we wish to provide the ambassador with a most pleasant evening, nothing too extravagant. Shokil and Celly's easy familiarity with bars and carousing is fascinating but unfamiliar. He has only been in one bar in the short time since his escape from the Eoxians. He found it to be so unpleasantly loud that he left within minutes. The fact that his death-infused physiology has 'deadened' his taste buds makes the consumption of drinks for their flavors mostly pointless, and further he has no wish to loose control of his powers via inebriation. So bars have played no part in his life. Though perhaps he should try an erotic dance bar....

When Shokil asks where to meet the Ambassador, Skorpahlich's attention snaps back to the task at hand.

"One last question. Is there anything or anyone specific that we are to protect her from?" He adds a little emphasis to the pronoun and looks at Shokil pointedly.

She's been hanging around bars a lot. As she works as a sound engineer she worked in a handful of those on Absalom Station. She listens to the question of Skorpahlich and adds

Survivor's Salvation

The Starstone Suite is a spacious guest room high in one of the
Lorespire’s central housing sections. The Hammer of Hylax must have been waiting by the door because it opens immediately after you ring the bell.

The trox is practically a wall of chitin with huge mandibles ringing a mouth of pointed teeth. It's carapace gives it a brooding hunch-backed appearance. A red cape and long tabard, embroidered in black with an insectile head surrounded by stars, does little to conceal the vestigial arms clasped rib-like along its flanks.

Behind it, the guest room is finished with walls of roughly cut natural stone. Cushions of woven layers of rough brown fibers are strewn across the floor. A low stone table is in the room's center. Against one wall is a small podium, flanked by guttering candles. Hanging on the wall is a blue tapestry on which is centered the star-crowned insectile head.

Leaning against the table, head down is a massive square-headed hammer. It's leather-wrapped handle is longer than the halfling's are tall.

The windows of this room also offer a spectacular view. This time over Jetembe Park, the emerald heart of the Eye of Absalom Station.

Somehow the wall of chitin bends at its abdomen. It speaks in a high, nearly squeaky, voice.

"Are you my escorts for the evening? I am the Hammer of Hylax. Please come in. The proprieties must be observed. Make yourselves comfortable. I have ordered food and drink for you. It is from my home. I hope you enjoy it."

The wall moves to one side to allow you to enter. On the table you can see a number of shallow dishes.

Culture DC 12, or Celly:
The star and insect motif is the holy symbol of Hylax.

Of dwarf and men

Makai is surprised that it was not obvious but quickly reflects herself. Her skin changes its tone to a bit darker than before, making you wonder how much of those changes are intentional and not caused by emotions. As they walk through the corridors towards the higher level she weaves the tale:

"The little we know about Golarion says that at first dwarves lived underground. At one point of time dwarves begun what is known as 'quest for the sky', our God Torag gave us the prophecy to look for the land above when the ground will begin to shake."

Makai takes a turn and continous:

"After the Gap, Torag was gone. And my people turned even more towards Angradd." she points to the tattoo on her head showing flames of the forge.

"When most of my kin found there home on different planets and asteroids, preserving our traditions and customs. Some of us decide to continue the quest for the sky, we boarded a great ship and traveled across the skies. My clan is searching for a galaxy to live in, some of us believe that this journey will never end."

Makai finds an elevator looking at the signs above it

"This elevator handle only lower levels, apparently the one that we look for should be over there." so she turns and follows deeper inside the building.

"Myself and other dwarves from the ship are not as heavy and broad as the kin leaving on the solid ground, but we are more agile and fast. Obviously long travels in zero-g took its tall on our build. "

Makai stops at that. You can't fail to notice that on her head she also has a symbol of Triune yet she never mentioned it.

The dwarf walks in behind the others and bows low.

"Makai Eriksdotter at your service." says smiling moderately.

As they arrive at the ambassador's suite and Makai finishes her story, Skorpahlich thanks her for the explanation. It's given him something to consider. As proud as he is of being different from those regular vesk that he denigrates as 'the brutes,' there are times when passing as one might make things easier. But is the cost to his sense of self to pass as something he's not just to fit in too high? Something to consider, indeed.

When the door opens onto a wall of chitin, Skorpahlich is roused from his musings on identity.

"Skorpahlich," he states simply with a deep nod but not a body-bow. "Thank you for the hospitality."

He follows the others and settles in near the table awaiting an explanation of the foods before he samples any.

Celly bows to the Ambassador in a sign of respect, her own holy symbol of Hylax visible.

Welcome to Absalom Station, Ambassador. she says, with a warm and welcoming smile. I am named Celestia Sol, but most people just call me Celly. Thank you for your hospitality, as Skorpalich said, and I look forward to sampling your world's cuisine

She paused for a bit. So, what parts of Absalom Station would you like to see?

The Hammer moves to the table to point out the dishes. "This green paste is mashed sativum leaves with spices. The white mush is curds of expressed filicophyta oil. The slightly cloudy yellow beverage is the fermented oil after the curds are removed. We call the two together Sister's Reunion. The small stringy masses are fried fibers peeled from the bambus root. It is traditional to eat these nuts at the end of a meal; they are one of our highest delicacies, carefully harvested after passing through the alimentary canal of the phascolar, an arboreal rodent native to my world."

"I am sure you will be most hospitable. Before we discuss tonight however, please tell me about yourselves. What do you do when not escorting visitors to the station? Did you volunteer for this duty? Celestia, may we begin with you?"

Oh ... ah ... I'm currently training to become a psychologist and diplomat, to help others with their emotional problems. Thanks to Hylax, I have been granted limited telepathy to help with that, also it does have ... other advantages.

I also work as an exotic dancer in a ... erm ... erotic dance bar, mostly underwater, since I have gill implants, and ... I'm not ashamed of that by the way. I was actually bought up as a nudist so, as far as I'm concerned, there's nothing wrong with being nude - it's just one has to respect the social moires of the culture one is in.

She looks over to Venari, wondering if, in fact, she is nude in one of the realities he is looking into.

So I help the other employees with their problems, and I'm also their advocate with management. I'm also the first aid responder in case there are accidents. But yeah, the money I make, and no .. we don't prostitute ourselves by the way, we're not THAT sort of place, I'm a 'look but don't touch' girl, helps pay for my fees etc, and I actually enjoy what I do.

As for volunteering .... well ... I was assigned because I am a follower of Hylax as well, but I'm glad I'm here because I would like to hear your take on Hylax

She looks around to see the other's reactions to her revelations and wonders who will be the next to speak.

Venari enters after the others, their eyes taking in the gorgeous view of Jatembe park, only noticing the imposing ambassador when they speak to the group to introduce themselves. Snapping back to focus, the Damai gives the Hammer of Hylax a deep courtly bow, their hand covering the breast pocket with the Skull and Crossbones motif. Giving her a winning smile they introduce themselves with an air of grace so far not shown to their agents.

"Greetings Lady Ambassador - I am Venari of Clan Hitoru of the Diaspora in the Pact Worlds. I would love to partake." they straighten from the bow and go over to taste the offered delicacies.

As Celly explains their lifestyle - and brings up their time as nudist, the Pirate blushes slightly as they do indeed witness this very scene in another reality - with a few differences.

"What a curious path your life has led. But I think you are pointed to the heart of Hylax. Communication and cooperation foster the bonds of peace and harmony that allow disparate beings to survive and even thrive together. Don't you agree?"

She turns her attention to Shokil as she reclines herself at the end of the table and takes one of the shallow bowls of the liquid portion of Sister's Reunion, "I am sorry, sir. I did not catch your name. "

She waits until Shokil has finished before sipping from the bowl and using her hand to draw a bit of the white mush to her mouth. Then she asks Skorpahlich, " Pardon me, I do not wish to be rude, but you do not seem typical of your species. "

Like wise she turns her attention in turn to Venari, " You, sir, seem most courtly. Are you also a diplomat?"

She alternately sips and savors the liquid and mush while the conversation twirls.

I'll need a diplomacy, bluff or intimidate check from all of you.

Shokil stands, offering a polite bow.

"I.." he starts, before pausing for a bare moment to collect his thoughts, "I Am Shokil, Shokil Bluefoot. Latest in the very long line of Bluefoots, that travels all the way back to lost Absalom."

"I am a humble author of popular fiction when not employed by the Starfinder society as a bit of a fixer. My latest mission involved making contact with a number of small tribes that were trapped in an odd moon. I am pleased to say that peaceful relations were established with all of them, in fact I was just out last night socializing with some of them."

Then with another polite little bow he adds "And may I add it is my pleasure to make the acquaintenace of the Hammer of Hylax "

Skorpahlich picks up some of the mashed sativum leaves with his long thin claws, as it seems eating with one's digits is acceptable. He notes the mild flavor of the spices, though he suspects the others would find them very piquant.

As he's chewing, he tries to picture Celly dancing underwater in the nude in an erotic manner. He's certain the performance would be beautiful and a pleasure to behold, but his complete lack of sexual experience leaves him unsure if he would in fact find it arousing. He makes a mental note to ask her about attending - after the mission is over, of course.

As he swallows the leaves, he nods to the Hammer's observations.

"A polite inquiry like your's is not offensive, madame. I am what I am. As you can see, I am vesk, but not."

He pauses to gather another serving of the sativum leaves. They did have more flavor than that cake from earlier, after all.

"My physiology is a result of an ancient and very rare vesk racial mutation, combined with the experiments done unwillingly upon me as a child by some Eoxians. As far as I know, I am not simply atypical; I am unique," he finishes with a hint of pride.

He chews the second serving of the sativum leaves as he considers how to answer the Ambassador's other questions.

"I did volunteer for this duty. Most recently, I have been trying to keep myself busy with Starfinder business. To avoid the pitfalls of idleness."

As the Ambassador takes a portion of the Sister's reunion, Venari leans forwards from their seat to take a handful of the root fibers, taking an experimental sniff before biting off a chunk of the end and savouring the interesting flavour combinations from out of their usual comfort zone. They listen to Shokil's introduction, taking note of their bearing once again, wondering just where their training comes from - they had see them prepare for a fight, but had yet to fight alongside the halfling.

Having missed most of Skor's tale, the Witchwarper nods thoughtfully, filling the gaps in the tale. It was sad, but it seemed like the Vesk was ready to work past it. Then, the Hammer of Hylax turned to face them and they swallowed. Hmm... Ex-nay on the Irat ey... they remind themselves silently before also giving the Hammer a bow, but not standing.

"I have indeed worked as a diplomat in the past, I work for a Clan of Ship Captains and have often had to negotiate with others in hostile circumstances." they reply, bending the truth slightly. "I too have travelled with Shokil to deal with three clans, where our team work effectively together to garner peace between previously warring factions." their voice is a little sad at the end there as they remember the bitter feeling.

"I am sorry I know no story of import. The name is traditional, and merely refers to rejoining the nectar and mash after their separation. No doubt an author like yourself could invent a romance around the name."

After her effusive greeting at the door, Baila has fallen quiet. Not wishing a guest to feel left out, the Hammer tries to draw her and Makai into the conversation. " Dears, please have some philicophyta nectar. They say it loosens the bronchial passages."

(Real life)-(in game) temporal continuity of conversation inevtiably breaking down. Carry on and thread things together as best you can. Still waiting on skill checks from Makai and Baila.

Celly nods to the Ambassador. Yes .... my flatmate can be ... quite a challenge in that regard ... but such is the nature of tieflings ... I ... love her like .. well .. she's my best friend ... but, she too has a tragic back story and I have been trying to help her get past that. Makai turns towards the table with food, wishing to try out some of the food before she introduces herself. She begun with mashed sativum leaves when Celly was speaking.

It tastes a bit like the mushroom pesto that we have grown on our ship. But more... leafy. thinks to herself

The dwarf continues with another dish, the white mush.

At the beginning, the flavors were interesting and a bit sour. But then the taste changed to full blow sour like she would eat the whole lemon. Makai made a sour face trying to control her reaction. As she opened her eyes she noticed few people looking at her, which made her more nervous.

She quickly changed her skin color to darker hoping that others would not see her blush.

"Sorry, that was an interesting taste, but I am not accustomed to it."

When her turn comes, Makai takes a sip of water to flush some of the taste and says

She blushes again and takes a step back hoping for someone else to speak.

Baila enters the room looking with interests on the walls and their host. She walks around with some grace and rhythm like she would hear some melody that is missed by others.

When her turn comes she clears he troat and responds
