Seeing how the goblins like a story, Krandith tries his hand at it. He picks a classic tale of the Quest for Sky, he leaves the battle with goblinoids out of it, and the great King Tarrgick. He punctuates the story with with cantrips (light mostly) to give it a little pop.

Krandith starts to tell a very important tale, one deep in Dwarven history. But he forgets who his audience is. At one point he mentions how many goblinoids were slain, a major faux pas. Fortunately his delivery is soooo dry that there are no goblins around to hear.

Much to his surprise, Tybek actually had fun with the goblins. Perhaps it was the fact that he could forget his tragic past for a short moment. When evening came upon the company and things quieted down, he finds a quiet place to sit down. Without even checking his pocket watch, the dwarf takes out his pipe, fills the bowl and calls to his friend, Castanamir.

”Dae yae hae a wee bit o’ fire mae friend? Ahh seem tae be oot o’ flint.“ After puffing on his pipe, he comments to the half elf. ”Ahh enjoyed hearin yer stories tonight. Did yae mak those up fer the goblins or did they really happen?” he gives the elf a questioning glance.

"You did good last night. Still going to all die, but at least everyone not worried about that right now. Ok, we go now," the caravan leader says, walking away and getting everyone moving.

The travel to your destination continues to be smooth... until it is not. You're probably less than an hour away from your destination when a goblin up front shouts "We're ambushed! Run aways before we all die!"

This cry immediately causes the goblins to scatter. What is also does is reveal the three men a little over thirty paces away. Each holds a flask with some sort of liquid in it!

After the ambush, nothing remains to be done but to take the wagons and complete the journey to the bridge camp. The goblins regroup, and in short order you're moving again. Fortunately, the remaining travel is uneventful.

When you arrive at the camp, you find it bustling with activity. Goblin engineers do their best to guide goblin workers as they build the decking and assemble the piers. The bridge appears simple, but sturdy, and is approximately half complete by this point. As the wagons are unloaded, Muckmuck shows you all to Zig, leader of the bridge camp.

While many of the goblins at the work camp are covered in dirt and sweat, Zig stands tall and straight among them. He pours over maps of the surrounding area before speaking. "It is good to see you. They call me Zig. I'm glad my father asked you to come here to help."

"We have been building a very important bridge. But every night, the big cats attack our camp. We leave out meat for them and they saunter right past it. Instead, they seem bent on filling their bellies with goblin flesh. If we move camp across the river; they cross over it overnight. If we light fires around the camp to scare them away, the goblins workers burn themselves in the flames. It's a lose-lose situation.

"Every few nights, the cats come back to hunt us. Everyone is terrified and that's bad for business. With all this talk of some saber-toothed whatever coming for us in the night, we're all too scared to finish our work. If someone doesn't take these furballs out, I suspect the bridge isn't ever gonna get built.

"These kitties aren't natural. Whatever you need, you got it. I can give you workers to build fences. But fences alone aren't going to be enough. Either the cats go, or this bridge is history. The only other answer is death."

It's mid afternoon, and you've been tasked with leading defenses for the camp. The big cats have always attacked at night, so you have a couple hours to prepare. Part of your day time will be spend resting (not a full night's rest though), as the night will be spent patrolling. Still, there are a few things you can do. They are:

Build Defenses: Although there is already some fencing, Zig cannot spare any other materials. That said, you can salvage the wagons to make 8 more sections of fence. I've added those to the map, so feel free to place them how you see fit.

Build More Defenses: You may wish to dig a pit, or otherwise alter the terrain. Altering the terrain in a 5-foot square takes one of you a day to complete.

Track the Felines: Although the last time the felines attacked was two days ago, you can try and track them back to their lair. It'll take a Survival check to do so.

Get Creative: Your job here is to protect the camp and stop the attacks once and for all. But your time is your own. Downtime activities are out, but you could reasonably do some exploration activities like Learn a Spell. If it takes too much time though, you might be a bit tired come the evening patrol. But I welcome all ideas here.

Once you've let me know what you plan to do with the daylight left, please place yourselves on the map where you expect to be guarding/patrolling.

The loquacious half-elf easily convinces the goblins to help out, even though most of them don't speak Taldane. Perhaps it's the tone he uses, which is both friendly and authoritative, that gets the job done. They move about, disassembling the wagons and constructing makeshift walls with surprising efficiency.

Meanwhile, Reinhold and Tybekk grab shovels and get to digging. They dig with gusto, and before two long they've got a pair of ditches. With the combined placement of the makeshift walls, the three are content with what's been done.

Krandith spends his time walking the grounds, studying the fortifications. He then watches the goblins, tracking their movements and habits. Finished, he returns to the group knowing one thing for certain: Regardless of their current defenses, big cats are likely only going to be slowed down. Krandith opts to keep close to the northern tents, his thinking that if the big cats are after goblins then they'll find them where they sleep.

    Initiative:
    Castanamir (Perc): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
    Krandith (Perc): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
    Reinhold (Perc): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
    Tybekk (Stealth): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
    Big Cats (Stealth): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

During the middle of the night Krandith's ears perk up. He sees Reinhold midway through his circular route, marching unawares. With a glance to Castanamir he sees the half-elf is aware too. Something is out there.

The two glance south and quickly spy the source: two leopards are climbing over the wall! They leap to the ground, slinking towards the southern tent.

Castanamir's thrown flame causes one of the leopards to yelp in both pain and surprise, while Krandith's bolt grazes the other. His call though wakes the goblins, who leap to their feet and in panic mill about and knock things over trying to flee.

One of the leopards (red) takes advantage of the chaos with a degree of cunning, swatting at a passing goblin and knocking it down. With ferocious intent, it sinking its teeth into the poor goblins' neck, killing it instantly. It then starts dragging its catch out of the tent area and back towards the southern wall and begins the challenging task of climbing over the wall!

The other leopard (blue), either oblivious to the hidden dwarf or choosing to ignore him, rushes Castanamir!
    Pounce vs Castanamir: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11

    Bite vs Castanamir: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

    Damage (S): 1d6 + 3 + 1d4 ⇒ (2) + 3 + (3) = 8

It pounces, though the offspring of Castamir is ready for it. He isn't, unfortunately, ready when it sinks it's teeth into his leg, grabbing hold! It tries to make the most of that grip, but can't seem to hit the very fortunate sorcerer.

"Achh! Crazzlefrats! Did one o' yae rascals put cat nip in m' trousers?! It seems all o' the cats are attacking me at once!"

Tybekk incredibly dodges all of the cat attacks by using a technique of twisting his body, ducking his head, and jumping out of the way of cat claws.

"Aye, that was a near miss. There is nothin worse than a cat scratch, especially frae those claws!"

As he catches his breath, he delays just long enough for Reinhold to step in and flank the cat with him. He then takes a deep breath and dives in for a few quick stabbing precision strikes on blue. If any of his attacks take down the blue cat, he turns his ire to red.
