"Ummmm. Well hold on. I was under the impression that this was WAR. Is it not? Is this not an unresolved war? Are we not here to join that cause? In war. The enemy is to be killed. That is the law of war. Sure you don't kill civillians, there might be all sorts of mission particulars that might come into play. The two Baphomet kissers in the next room are not sewing circle who dabble in a bit of illegal activity that we have not been 'sanctioned' legal to go after. They are agents against us in this war. We don't owe them a chance. We certainly don't need to risk our survival or the survival of our charges. That would I think be the avoidance of duty." He frowns, "I get it you want to sleep good tonight. I'd like to make sure we all live to have the chance to sleep tonight."

”For the sake of those we protect, then, let us proceed,” answered Damon, waiting his turn to rush in after the stealthy ones had their chance at a surprise attack. The tactics were sound, the cultists were evil and would kill him without hesitation—he was only doing what he must to protect himself and the innocents in his charge. ”There will be a chance with others to offer them an opportunity to repent,” the young Paladin thought hopefully as he waited.

I guess it could be said that the mongrels have not yet seen the other three PCs.

Kokam scowled at Hallvardr as his mutterings announced their approach to the cultist sentries.

The sentries proved their mettle by quickly attacking, one laying a long scratch down her leg.

Battering aside his other thrust, Kokam resolved to end her side of the fight quickly, reaching down and accessing that well of energy within...bursting upon the cultist with an array of strikes...

Kokam slips the tip of her spear past the sentries defenses, scoring a ht high on his shoulder. Her next attack, low , was easily deflected by his blade. However, he was not expecting her next attack, spinning with the momentum of the cutlist's parry, her spear shaft hummed through the air, striking the demon worshipper square in the temple!

No worries I thought we were still discussing plans and there was time to sneak with them. But taking a second look I see what I missed.

With no healing left the halfling moved in to come to Halls aid by dropping the mongrel attacking him. He leaned in low but close sending his rapier up hoping to find something vital.

Joining the attack with the others, Stella once again conjured a ball of fire and attempted to assist Kokam with the foe she faced. Worried about accidentally hitting the monk, Stella tried to time her strike perfectly but her plan was foiled by the cultist at the last moment when he nimbly dodged out of the way.

Kokam yanked her spear away from the fallen cultist's head, and spun it around so that the point was an inch from the surrendering cultist's throat, "Mercy?! Would you have granted such to us? Speak now, or your life is forfeit! What dangers lay beyond the door?"

It's obvious from the way Kokam is standing, that it would be only a matter of a quick twist of her hips and the spear would impale the cultitst's neck.

If Kokam is doing an intimidation check I'd like to use the help action to give her advantage on her roll

With one cultist down, Stella moved with the rest of the group to finish of the remaining enemy but was surprised when he dropped his weapon and asked for mercy. Unsure how to proceed, she saw Kokam threaten the man and decided to take her lead, standing behind the monk rather menacingly (for Stella at least) for dramatic effect with a ball of flame hovering in her hand. Though in truth she had no intention of actually attacking the surrendered cultist, and she hoped Kokam felt similarly...

Also let me know if I need to make any rolls for above as well

“I disagree, Kokam, I think he is worth more to us alive,” said Damon, looking down at the mongrelman with a mixture of disgust and pity. ”It is too late to warn the city above, but Neathholm must be warned. Let him see justice at the hand of his fellow Mongrelmen and tell them all he knows of the cultists’ plans.”

As an aside to Kokam, he quietly added, ”We need rest before emerging into a city overrun by demons anyway. Let one of us—maybe Onyx—escort him back at least to a Neathholm patrol and hand him over. I think we're all out of hit die so I'm not sure how much a short rest will help (and a doubt we can long rest while we're in the enemy hideout)

"That's a good point Damon, if we might be close to the exit, then perhaps getting help from above and returning with reinforcements to deal with whatever's lurking down here would be the best plan?" Stella offers the group.

I was thinking more that if the entire complex is cleared, we can long rest here while the heroic Onyx takes the prisoner back to Neathholm and may decide to stay there or whatever (giving him a chance to fade into the background), then we push on up to the surface...The demons could have overrun the city and showing up low on resources could be very bad for us--or the city leaders could be back in control and we waste our time resting underground. Of those two options, the wasting time one seems safer, but I am up for whatever the group wants to do.

I see your point. If our PC's can confirm that we've cleared the hideout then I'm fine going along with your plan of long resting and sending Oynx off with the cultist back to Neathholm (we could say we left him behind to defend them or something). If there's still a relatively immediate threat though, while mechanically it makes sense to long rest, in game it'd seem weird to me.

Augury sounds like a good idea at this point, as we really have no idea which path is best. Also, as beat up as we are, common sense would dictate at least considering closing this door and long resting before we continue on to fight whatever is in that maze.

Looking around at the injured among them, Damon asked, "Should we rest before continuing, or should we enter the maze and try to clear a path forward now?" With the door open for the moment, he focused on Iomedae's divine senses to determine what manner of beast might have made that bellowing sound deep in the maze.

(First use of Divine Sense today).

OOC:

Augury is tricky power VERY subject to interpretation. It really depends on your focus. Is it bad that you encounter a demon and overcome it with the risk of injuries and possible death? Or is it good that the above happens and you are able to exit the underground to help out above?

Fair warning. I think it's useless in all but the most direct actions and these direct actions you do not need augury to figure out what happens.

-----------
IC: The druid's stars lined up and they pointed in one direction. The middle path. Stella was sure that it was the middle pathway that would lead them out of this maze...

Damon raised his hands for this was the same path that reeked of evil. The paladin's nose wrinkled in disgust for there were two fiends waiting somewhere in the maze.
