...As Rose draws her weapon and moves to follow the Assassin, the third (whose footsteps you heard) takes her readied bow shot - but Rose nimbly dodges the arrow! - then strikes her intended quarry - when suddenly the third Assassin, realizing who she has shot at (and caused her to miss!?), lets out a "YOU!?"...

She crouches into a low stance and flexes her fingers, imitating claws. She grimaces and exhales with a snort while taking two simultaneous jabs at the assassin's throat, aiming to incapacitate without dealing mortal wounds.

Rose's question seem to be answered! A fourth Assassin opens the doorway - none other than Mr. Barralbus Bockington - he says "Why are YOU all here!? Had me going you were merchants. Looks as not all is as it seems. Oh well?" and with that he waves his hands and conjures forth a bursting ball of flame that explodes around Orris!

Assassin Two takes advantage of Rose's compromised position - striking her with a roundhouse kick followed by a knee - striking Rose squarely across the jaw despite her nimble footwork - before once again attempting to hide amongst the boxes - this time to no avail.

Helène groan at the sight of Barralbus. "So, you hadn't expected us? You came for Themolin?" Helène asks of the clerk. She doesn't stay in place to hear his answers, but hustles up to protect her companions. "I've got your back, Rose." Still in her low chouch, she jabs twice at the assassin with the rapier.
She turns to the clerk again after dispatching the assassin. "Watch out, you're next. If you're playing with fire, you're going to get burned." She grimaces and a (weak) dragon-like roar escapes her throat.

Barralbus laughs! "Taxes - poor fools - are what keep a city running. If your private property is seized, who is it you call upon?! ME!" he adds "Speaking of that - we are here to Seize this property - and this fool Themolin - I won't ask again: Leave now with your lives!" He laughs again, the shrill arrogance apparent in the third resonant tone of his voice.

Rose levels a low gaze at Barrablus. "And you're not just a tax collector as you had us to believe. Seems not is all it seems with you either. Oh, we-" She gets cut off as a foot jams itself into her jaw. With a moment to tend to her tender jaw and make sure it didn't dislocate, Rose notices Helene coming and helping handle the assassin in front of her. She gives the woman a nod of thanks and rounds on the lady standing behind her. "And YOU! You've been being a pain in the back and now jaw!" She pokes out with her rapier a few times to try putting the woman DOWN, noticing that Kunsheng has come over at about the same time.

Bardok pays his fees - which look as though they are about to slice into the mage like so many papyrus papercuts - when the Master Wizard raises one finger and countermands the poor Sorcerer's efforts! "Fool! I am the greatest Minister of all Time - second only to her Green Majesty - and have found a Loophole in your Measly Incantation!" as the missiles are transfigured into ink splotches that spill across the floor, dispersed without effect!
Barralbus's Grabbed flat check to Counteract passed: The magic missile spell is Counteracted.
Meanwhile Kunsheng punches the remaining assassin in the spleen (ouch!) and Rose warms up her swordplay.
Assassin Two sustains 6 blunt. Rose misses twice.
The haughty wizard responds with two of his own spells! To Bardok "You can pay with singed flesh!" as he directs his ball of fire to the sorcerer's square, managing to again weasel through Orris's grip. Finally, he tries his luck a third time - directing some sort of spell at the area just behind Orris, when the good doctor squeezes him at just the right moment that a cracked-rib sound escapes his torso and a shout of pain - instead of the final syllable of his magic incantation! - escapes his throat: Instead of saying "Radii Autem Lubrici!" what comes out is "Radii Autem Lubri-GHuk"!
Barralbus's flat check to Sustain passed. Bardok must roll Basic Reflex vs 3d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 2) = 8 fire damage.
Barralbus's flat check to Cast a Spell failed; he loses that spell.
Finally, the remaining assassin clutches his spleen with his hand, then looks at Kunsheng, fires two shots at the Alchemist Point Blank - missing both times - and steps backwards in partial retreat.

Rose rolls her eyes over the dramatics on display by Barralbus. "Here I thought I was potentially over acting playing as Iris! However, Greatest Minister of All Time you certainly take the cake, eat it, and then grandiosely claim you are the best at eating it. Kunsheng how do you feel about handling the assassin back there? I'M going to help handle the minister."
She steps over to the man and then strikes out twice, once with her rapier and a second time with her dagger.

"Sure," Helène nods at Rose and Kunsheng. "I'd had my fill of him this morning." She deftly strides in between the pair to engage the last remaining assassin.
She looks her new opponent up and down, giving him a fiery glare. "You got more than you bargained for, didn't you?" she says in an attempt to unnerve him. "Did you see how easily your colleagues crumpled?" She barely gives him time to consider before she lashes out with both of her 'claws', letting out a roar (much more powerful this time) that seems to increase the impact of her strikes.

Barralbus's mind melts - the smug egomaniacal veneer replaced with the look of pure stupefaction - he attempts to make yet another threatening retort drawing upon his natural cunning - but all that comes out is "Oh yeah, well, you're, uh, Wrong!" and an exasperated look takes over his face as he slowly realizes that he is feebly unable to draw upon his wits, sounding instead like a bumbling fool who, in better times, he would hesitate not to levy with a litany of condescending insults!

Rose's face bunches up at the egotistical assumption she was a delinquent and even deserved going to Debtor's Prison.

... but there was that one time she forgot to pay the lockpick taxes in Absalom, she should probably go to the prison to make repremands... Rose wanders away from the fight, side-stepping the grease and muttering things about about 'lockpicks' and '5 years ago' and 'only was 4 gold pieces,' in a slight daze before she stops and snaps out of it. It was only one year and considering all the people with undeclared lockpicks, it's one of the least enforced taxes in the city! Anyways, I'd have to go back to Absalom, they'd not be able to handle that here! What was I thinking?
She turns around and stamps back to the tax man, again avoiding the grease puddle and tries to stab him one more time.

Her mind on her infractions, Rose storms away... only to change her mind, come charging back, and, while Orris holds him, run the Minister through with her sharp blade, causing him to slump to the floor, dying in a pool of greasy slime, his fine clothes forever ruined...

The PCs hear a rumbling in the Southwestern corner of the room (past a KO'd Assassilly), and discover Themolin tied and gagged, little cuts lining his face and other parts of his body. He looks up at you and says "MMHHmmERE EEHHRRRRRY" with a surprised look!

Doc strides briskly over to help Themolyn out of his gag & bonds, with a keen ear to Marcel in case there are any hazards he has missed.
"Don't be alarmed, sir: my odd appearance is due to a performance-enhancing tipple I used during the fight just now.
"I'm so glad we did not arrive any later than we did.
"The claws don't impede my dexterity, and as you can see, they have their uses."
Orris hooks his claws under the restraints, keeping their smooth curved surfaces toward Themolyn to eliminate any chance of cutting him rather than the bonds as he works to free the man. One minute after imbibing, he transforms back to his normal appearance, and cleans the blood out from under his fingernails.
He also advocates for some alchemical healing for the wounded, and works to assess and triage, deferring to the expertise of more-highly-trained comrades. He can produce a level 1 item via fast alchemy if needed, but his own loadout is currently focused on offense instead.
