Taman moves behind Tachonius.


Almaas pushes open the door to reveal a resplendently furnished bedroom! Paintings of a lush tropical realm adorn the walls, a comfortable leather chair sits at a magnificent mahogany desk, and a four-poster bed fills the northeast corner. Wooden statues carved to resemble slender elven archers stand in this room, one to the north and one to the south. As Almaas enters, both swiftly adopt a defensive pose but stay in their positions.

We are not on Initiative . . . yet!

Identify Statues (DC 16 Knowledge: Arcana):
These are wood golems, constructs that follow their creator's instructions to the letter. Wood golems are carved from rare woods and assembled into a roughly humanoid body. Their creators usually leave their bodies almost unfinished.

Identify Statues (DC 21 Knowledge: Arcana):
Wood golems are easily burned--fire spells are likely to destroy them quickly!

Identify Statues (DC 26 Knowledge: Arcana):
Most other spells won't work on wood golems at all. However, the spells warp wood, wood shape, and repel wood slow or push back the golems. Don't try cold spells though!

Identify Statues (DC 31 Knowledge: Arcana):
Wood golems can launch splinters of themselves, wounding all those around them.

Taman opens the door.


Taman walks next to Tachonius and opens the door to reveal a small room. Three bunk beds sit near this room’s western wall, while the remains of a small shrine clutter one corner of the room. Numerous books rest on thin shelves lining the chamber.

A bizarre creature stands here. It looks like a shadowy elf whose body is made of the darkness of space, with eyes resembling spiralling galaxies and long, thin fingers ending in talons--it instantly attacks!

On your turn, assuming you have line of sight to the creature, you can try to identify it as a free action.

DC 23 Knowledge (planes):
This is an animate dream! An animate dream is created by a fragment of a vivid or unusual dream that lingers on the Ethereal Plane. An animate dream then seeks out mortal minds, taking on a nightmarish appearance that differs for each viewer. It finds satisfaction infusing the moral with negative energy.

DC 28 Knowledge (planes):
Animate dreams are incorporeal. Use magic weapons, or--even better--ghost touch weapons against them!

DC 33 Knowledge (planes):
The touch of an animate ream puts horrifying visions in the target’s mind via a curse that can last for days . . . or drive someone mad!

Tzleztor flies in the room. He checks out the weird creature.

He attempts to use his trusty wand of magic missile.

The creature of ever-changing horrific appearances somehow dodges Tachonius' blade. Taman has better luck and tears away some of the creature's ghost-like form. Almaas' arrow goes awry, but Izlin's enchanted knife seeks out the nightmarish figure with unerring accuracy. The magic missile-hurling duo of Xilt and Tzleztor discover that some of their bolts of arcane force fly harmlessly through the creature!

Tachonius missed, Taman hit for half damage, Almaas missed, Izlin hit for full damage (but did not confirm the crit threat), Xilt's magic missiles had full effect, but Tzleztor's failed to overcome SR. Izlin, I placed your token at the doorway to the correct room.

Dawa moves forward then then begins his song of inspirational courage once again. Move action to move and move action to inspire: +4 to attacks & damage.

If anyone fails a save against one of its abilities, Dawa will use Saving Finale as an immediate action; if anyone targets it with a creature that requires it to make a save, Dawa will use Misfortune on it as an immediate action if it rolls 14 or higher on the die.

K'nai will hang back.


The nightmarish figure reaches out a claw/tendril/tongue toward Tachonius, filling the warpriest with horrifying visions!

The creature's mass ebbs and flows, somehow avoiding Izlin's magical dagger! But Almaas manages to hurt the creature with a well-placed arrow in the center of its mass, and Taman's and Tachonius' enchanted blades wound it further. A follow up volley of magic missiles from Xilt leaves the creature almost totally dispersed!

Izlin's attacks missed (due to soft cover). Almaas and Taman each hit once for half damage. Tachonius hits twice for half damage. Xilt's magic missiles hit for full effect, though Tzleztor once again can't get through SR. This thing is *almost* down.
