This is the discussion thread for It Rests Beneath, which is part of Outpost III. Thank you for joining us!
Please review the information below.
GM ROLLS, BOTTING, AND DELAY
I request that players do their best to try to post frequently (a minimum of once per weekday and, at least once, over the weekend). I understand that real life has a habit of ruining scheduled game time. Nevertheless, please leave a post in advance if you know that you are likely to have limited time/ability to post for a period of time.
I will generally roll Initiative and any necessary saves in order to keep things moving. My goal is complete a single round of combat within a 24 hour period.
When in combat, unless a PC has left botting instructions or made arrangement for another player to bot them, I will place any PC that has not posted within the past 24 hours (48 hours on a weekend) on delay.
If a single skill check has been called for, I will accept the PC with the highest skill bonus as the "primary" and all other attempts by PCs for the same check as aiding another.

@ All - I want to float the idea of a delayed start, by a 5-7 days or so (so a start time between April 3 and April 7). My thought is that with so many games starting on the same day, particularly the more time & text intensive beginning to the Specials, that it may be easier on everyone if we start a little bit after the rush. However, wanted to see what you all thought of the idea.
With a post rate of at least once per weekday per player, I don't think we will have any trouble completing the scenario before the May closing date for Outpost even if we delay the start a full week. I will likely be able to post more frequently, but don't expect my players to (but you are, of course, welcome to post more frequently if you like).
Again, I'm looking forward to this run (whenever we choose to start)!

Name Alex Wreschnig
Character Name Maximus
SFS ID and character number 124419-705
Faction Wayfinders
Day job Roll (what, you think this dude has a JOB?!)

![]() |

@GM: no issues here! Now that Maximus is set up I'm ready whenever.
Edit: now if I could remember how to tell Campaign Tools to set Maximus as my default for this thread I'd be set.

![]() |

I'm signed up for 5 games, but I don't mind starting on the very day or a bit later.

2 people marked this as a favorite. |

It looks like you all won't mind a delayed start, so let's plan for April 3rd.

We've started. Go ahead any make PC introductions in the Gameplay thread and then, regardless, I will post the briefing in about 24 hours.
Thank you all for accommodating my delay request. The Starfinders in the table of the special I am running, in particular, have reason to be grateful as it allowed them to get through all the preparations (with some of them posting multiple times in a day and allowing me to do the same).
Also, during the delay, we have been adjusting to cyber-schooling. Three kids, not enough computers. I can GM some by phone, but for larging blocks, editing I really need a PC. So, expect my posts to come in around 12 noon-ish and then late afternoon, early evening most weekdays. I am on US East coast time.
I am looking forward to this run! This adventure has some fun quirks and interesting choices that I look forward to springing on you!

I can attest to that! My first ever special and it's been quite a great so far.
(I didn't realise until after signing up that the two games I'm playing in this Outpost are both GM Valen games!)
I'm sure many of us are in a similar situation, so no need to worry. Also, I'm in UTC+10, so might be a little out of sync at times, but usually check several times a day, so shouldn't be far behind.

![]() |

The delay was helpful. I was also able to use the time to race my players through all the preparations in the special. And Kalvarnix now has gear!

Maximus is slotting the Wayfinder's champion faction boon and the Ryphorian admittance personal boon, but that's about it!
Sloth races are adorable.

Boon Slotted
Faction: Second Seeker (Jadnura) Champion
Personal: Dragonkin Heritage
Promotional: Starfinder Player Character Folio:
Slotless: Seeker of Knowledge for this scenerio

Oh, and also a Promotional Reroll boon! Just in case things go Maximus-shaped.

![]() |

Elisan only has his Wayfinder Champion boon to slot.

![]() |

Boons:
Wayfinder Champion (Faction)
Yaraesa’s Wisdom (Social, 0 out of 5 uses)

![]() |

Well, they do love this particular monster - second scenario I fight him (and I hope this is also a weaker version!).
And I wonder if they added the crashed ship to explain its presence, or they added him after they thought of the crashed ship...

![]() |

Apologies, but I might be missing a post today. I've got a couple of big projects due today (April 13th) that I'm crunching for. I'll post as soon as I'm able, hopefully late today or early tomorrow.

![]() |

We should have brought both buggies with us!

![]() |

As an object, would the buggy be immune to critical hits?

![]() |

Indeed:
Hardness: As an object, a vehicle has hardness (see page 409). Any damage a vehicle takes is reduced by its hardness.

GM Valen |

Ah, yes! I felt as though I must have overlooked something.
Now, I don't have to feel bad for making you all walk (or in some cases fly) the long way back to research facility!

![]() |

You might still have the opportunity... but I have planned for this contingency: Gava would drive one other PC on the Enercycle back to the base and bring back the second buggy; the rest of the party stays behind and works on setting up the equipment.

![]() |

One of my kids watched that religiously, but all I can tell is that one of the protagonists could turn into monsters. And apparently they rebooted the show all the time or something.

![]() |

I have never heard of Ben 10, but after googling for it, I was thinking similar. Except my frame of reference is Lavos from Chrono Trigger.

![]() |

Having rolled about 15 piloting checks in a row, I feel great that you finished up that cell tower in a second.
Considering our combo of computer people with no athletics, or athletic people with no computer skills, I think we struggled enough with those skill challenges! Onwards to the giant living ship or giant space creature that landed on this planet, or whatever it is.

![]() |

Kalvarnix has been pretty useless. It also doesn't help that my reading comprehension has been less than stellar. Too little sleep has been catching up to me, I think. Sorry about that.
Kalvarnix has been moved up next to the party. If I'm taking too long to take my upcoming turn, Kalvarnix will fly up and attack one of them landing somewhere if there is room. Position-wise their goal is to prevent their allies from being hurt, so between them and the enemies or at least adjacent to their allies if possible. (It's tight so it might not be.) Since they are native creatures to this area, Kalvarnix will do nonlethal damage.
Entropic Strike through Red Star Plasma Lash with Reach and Merciful Fusion
Attack vs EAC: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Electric & Fire damage: 1d4 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Kalvarnix also has the Bodyguard feat plus the Intervene Vanguard Discipline and as a reaction will Bodyguard+Intervene to protect an adjacent ally if they are attacked.

![]() |

Have been a little flat out the last 48 hours. Sorry about delay. Will post as soon as possible.

![]() |

In case Gava's arguments seem familiar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=casQQhO1jkw.

![]() |

Thanks for GMing! This one threw me for a loop a bunch of times.

![]() |

Thank you very much for GMing us. It was a blast. Truth be told, even though V'lorus wanted the neutral answer, I, as the player, am so glad we ended up picking one side or the other.

![]() |

Thank you for GMing! My info is correct.
I do find the limited options to be a bit disatisfying at the end, but they only have 4 boxes to report choices with. It will be interesting to see what the community picks overall and what the follow up might be.

![]() |

Thanks for GMing Valen. I appreciate you giving your time to our little adventure. I felt this story was perfectly suited to Elisan him being both a Wayfinder and a kasatha.
Thanks to my fellow players, too. I enjoyed interacting with your colourful characters.
Haha Gava, I just noticed the strike through in the alignment!

![]() |

Yep, there's a d20 roll to win an event boon. 19-20 wins, then a 1d3 to see which boon.
I have finished playing in other 3 tables and didn’t win anything yet. xD
Haha Gava, I just noticed the strike through in the alignment!
Hehe, it was such a turning point in his life that it felt very appropriate. He really grew in those last moments of the scenario - his motivation is to find more creatures that can be used for his family business, and Big Mina just flipped his switch completely. It was like winning the lottery (and watch people discussing ripping the ticket).
