Emberwik
|
Also, I just remembered. Emberwik has a bunch of scrolls of cleanse. I can use that for the con and disease. Save one boon for later.
| GMAndrewW |
The last attack is a slam and it does inflict the disease. Paaldins Sacrifice says that if you take the hit you take all the effects with no save, downside of being a Paladin I suppose. My instinct is to say that you don't double up on disease but I am checking. I will make a decision before asking for your final decision
You open up a brief but powerful divine conduit between you and another creature, taking on the damage and any other effects that creature suffers. When a creature in range is hit by an attack or fails a saving throw, you can cast this spell and the wounds and/or effects are magically transmitted to you instead of the target. You are affected as if you were hit by the attack or failed the saving throw, taking all the damage and suffering all of the adverse effects. Any resistances or immunities you have are applied normally, but you cannot otherwise reduce or negate the damage or effects in any way.
| GMAndrewW |
OK, the rules on this are fuzzy, largely because diseases generally have lengthy onset periods and this one is immediate however I am going to say they do not stack. Lenny can take the last 11 damage slam hit on Emberwick and he is still conscious, albeit on 5HP, Lenny I have you down to 12 from thatwith another -10 coming from Lifelink. Rolling us around into Round 6

Roary moves up and attacks once..
"You really need to die, let's try shall we?"
Seeing as everything is in difficult terrain he attacks once again.. Lol.. Im sure she has AoO and will trip me on the way in so prob no attack either.. They thought about these fights real hard.. If she does try to trip him use Strength Surge for +13 to CMD as an immediate.
Norm stuff minus Flag..
Attack: 1d20 + 32 + 5 + 2 - 5 ⇒ (17) + 32 + 5 + 2 - 5 = 51
Dam: 2d4 + 21 + 15 + 4 ⇒ (3, 4) + 21 + 15 + 4 = 47 Keep forgetting about Witch Hunter..
Miss: 1d100 ⇒ 58
Confirm: 1d20 + 34 ⇒ (11) + 34 = 45
Dam: 2d4 + 40 ⇒ (4, 2) + 40 = 46
| GMAndrewW |
She will certainly try. I promise there isnt anything like as much stuff in the way in the rest of the scenario!
The giant once again strikes out, trying to send Roary tumbling to the ground. However, he is clearly tired of this nonsense and screams in her face so loudly she is totally put off.
With a single blow he hacks off her leg and she collapses, dead from the shock in an instant!
COMBAT OVER!
Oops, I accidentally deleted my dice rolls. She did indeed trip you Roary (rolled a 63 on blink) and I posted with you knocked to the ground and everything. I then noticed that you were using strength surge which turned her successful trip into a fail so edited it to deal with your attack but deleted her combat rolls. Anyway, congratulations on beating the encounter. Feel free to take a rest at this point. We could run another encounter in the garden but I suspect we will transition into Part 3 soon so i would rather not.

Emberwik stands up, and draws from his bag two scrolls and a feather. it glows an elegant ruby red. He draws the first scroll, and reads it.
Cleanse is on the Oracle spell list, so I can cast it no issues.
The disease that plagued him from before is gone, and his constitution is restored. He then turns to Lenny and does the same.
Scroll of Cleanse @Emberwik: 4d8 + 9 ⇒ (7, 8, 7, 1) + 9 = 32
Scroll of Cleanse @Lenny: 4d8 + 9 ⇒ (6, 7, 6, 3) + 9 = 31
Then the shadowy ifrit rubs the pheonix feather upon his own chest. Suddenly, the feather burns into him, and suddenly he looks much better than before.
Marked 1 box on my boon.
Emberwik
|
Hm. How did I miss that?
"Are you good enough to use a scroll?" He asks Lenny.
DC25.
Lenny 236648
|
No worries, I've got a boon of my own I can use for Restoration, plus a scroll of it. I am jsut happy to have spared you your awesome cheat death power. Let's keep that in our back pocket for what fresh horrors we face next! Now first things first I am going to channel and get some mileage out of mass healing.
channel 1: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10
To help track the healing, I will do this in rounds. So round 6, I take 10 dmg from lifelink, while Ember and Roary each heal 5 HP from Lifelink. Then I channel and heal everyone for another 10 (14 for me thanks to Fey Foundling. Leaving me with 22 HP.
Brutus "The Mountain" Ironheart
|
If we're doing out of combat healing I'm happy to chip in a CLW wand for folks that need it. @Lenny: If you want to use both of Pearl Is go ahead. We seem to have an abundance of restoration in this party.
CLW: 6d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4, 2, 1, 2, 5) + 6 = 24
13 charges left if anyone needs it.
Lenny 236648
|
It is on my spell lists thanks to my 4 oracle levels, but I only have a caster level of 4, so I will need to pass a caster level check DC = caster level of scroll +1.
Lenny slowly climbs to his feet, and gratefully accepts the scroll. He holds it closely to his face and squints, "That depends. They don't use a bunch of big words, do they?"
caster level check, DC 10: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
yay!
cleanse healing with Fey Foundling: 4d8 + 9 + 8 ⇒ (7, 1, 2, 4) + 9 + 8 = 31
@Brutus, you rolled d6s instead of d8s for the CLW wand. Can you edit your post?
Round 7:
Lenny 22 -> 12 after LL -> 43 after cleanse -> ?? after Brutus wand
Brutus 141/159
Sarek (maxed)
Ember 47/120
Roary 146
Daxter (maxed)
Emberwik
|
Brutus 126|159 +10 = 136
Sarek 119|122 +10 = 122(Maxed)
Emberwick 42|120
Lenny 11|114 +10 = 21 + 31 = 52 + 24 = 76
Roary 131|161 +10 = 141
Daxter 120|114 (Maxed)
24 CLW from Brutus => Going to Lenny
159 points of damage needing to be recovered.
Cure Light Wounds 24 Charges: 24d8 + 24 ⇒ (7, 2, 6, 6, 6, 7, 4, 6, 7, 2, 3, 7, 6, 6, 7, 4, 7, 5, 4, 6, 8, 6, 7, 7) + 24 = 160
Emberwik will use his wand, which is brand new and has 50 charges.
Won't do the math another time, but now everyone should be back at full health.
Roary Flamebearer
|
Roary also has a wand.. Assuming someone will use it for me.
Heals: 7d8 + 7 ⇒ (2, 8, 3, 3, 2, 1, 3) + 7 = 29 @full
Lenny 236648
|
OK fair enough, I'll leave it be, just trying to get mileage out of the +2 per die healing from Fey Foundling. Thanks again for saving my butt, and for the scroll. And thank you again, Brutus for the Pearl, which I am officially using now to refresh my preparation of Hero's Defiance! And thank you @GMAndrewW for continuing to raise my blood pressure with these deadly combats.
Emberwik
|
@Roary Emberwik used his wand to heal you to full.
Won't do the math another time, but now everyone should be back at full health.
| GMAndrewW |
OK, it looks like everyone is back to full HP. Lenny and Ember have 3 dex drain I think, I didnt see anyone using a restoration?
@Daxter, you are looking to find a way to the crater where Gallowpsire used to be and then work out how to get into the lower dungeons beyond. Expect an Overseer announcement fairly soon.
Emberwik
|
Then the shadowy ifrit rubs the pheonix feather upon his own chest. Suddenly, the feather burns into him, and suddenly he looks much better than before.
Marked 1 box on my boon.
I missed saying it but this was Emberwik’s casting of Restoration, hence the Phoenix feather.
10-00 Hao Jin Cataclysm
▫▫ Radiant Ruby Feathers: Your repair efforts were so successful that the phoenix guardians had extra magical energy left over, which they have gifted back to you in the form of a pair of feathers imbued with sparks of Hao Jin’s power. You can check a box that precedes this boon as a standard action to use one of the following spell-like abilities, gaining benefits based upon your level when you activate this boon. For any spell-like ability, use your character level as your caster level.
Levels 1+: You can use a spell-like ability from the following list: burning hands, cure moderate wounds, or lesser restoration. Levels 5+: Add cure serious wounds, fireball, and scorching ray to the list of spell-like abilities you can use.
Levels 9+: Add cure critical wounds, restoration, and wall of fire to the list of spell-like abilities you can use. If you use
restoration to remove a permanent negative level, check both boxes.
Lenny 236648
|
I am going to live with my 3 points of Dex drain for now. The -1 to AC and Dex skills are moot considering how low they were already, so it is mostly just the -1 Reflex to me. I'm cool with that for now and expect to cure it when I inevitably suffer a negative level or further drain.
| GMAndrewW |
OK, tracker updated, waiting for an overseer announcement. Lets do a little prep for the nex encounter. You are going to be entering the underground dungeons. You do not know how long it will take you to get to the next encounter. Please update the buff list with anything you are casting on entry. If using short duration spells (minute/level o less) indicate how many times you will keep castiing it if it runs out.
Sarek, the Cinnabar Sage
|
Once we arrive at the crater and enter what remains of Gallowspire, Sarek will cast an extended mirror image and an extended lead blades, both using one of his lesser extend metamagic rods.
He will also drink an antiplague. He will load one of his spring-loaded wrist sheaths with a scroll of giant form I and the other with a scroll of teleport.
Mirror Image: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Brutus "The Mountain" Ironheart
|
If Barkskin lapses, Brutus will use his Pearl II to reapply another extended barkskin. His mage armor from Daxter should be good for a while still. If it somehow lapses, he'll start burning charges off his wand.
Lenny 236648
|
Thanks for the reminder. I will use a scroll of See Invisibility and my wand of Heightened Awareness (which I intend to expend for the init boost). I will also use 5 charges of my Divine Favor wand over the first 5 minutes underground. Lastly I would like to have a scroll of Mirror Image in hand, but don't intend to cast it until combat starts.
Roary Flamebearer
|
Roary will have someone re-cast his last heroism scroll and he will drink his other antiplague/antitoxin. Lenny should also have Darkvision since the beginning. I gave him a scroll to use and marked it off. I have 3 others if anyone needs one.
"Remember you have those two Scrolls of Deathward Lenny, try to hit me with one if you see combat coming please. Or use one yourself if you need to."
Sarek, the Cinnabar Sage
|
After a moments thought, Sarek also decides to pay one of the nearby Seekers for a casting of mind blank.
Paying 1,200 gold for a single casting of mind blank. Lasts 24 hours. That will bump my save vs. mind-affecting by +3.
Lenny 236648
|
I have one scroll of Death Ward of my own. I forgot about the 2 you said you had, but needed others to cast. I definitely plan to bust out deathward (it is in my quickdraw sheath) when the time comes, but with its annoyingly short duration of only 7 minutes I can't afford to use it until we know it's time. For your scrolls, it is probably best for Ember to hold on to it since he won't have to pass a caster level check to use it, and so we have some spread throughout the party. Lastly thanks for the reminder on Darkvision. I forgot to put it on the buff list. Fixed now. As for Heroism, again best if Daxter or someone else uses the Heroism scroll on you, so there is no chance of failure with my low caster level.
Caleban Gallonica

After a moments thought, Sarek also decides to pay one of the nearby Seekers for a casting of mind blank.
Paying 1,200 gold for a single casting of mind blank. Lasts 24 hours. That will bump my save vs. mind-affecting by +3.
An enormously fat man, swathed in robes of green, purple, yellow and orange silk descends out of the canopy. An invisible servant floats nearby, carrying a silver platter filled with pastry and sugar delicacies. I hear one of you youngsters wants a mind blank he says, his voice muffled by a mouthful of pastry. He drops towards Sarek, You, yes he says, spraying Sarek with pastry flakes. Well come here lad and let me see to you.
After blessing Sarek with his mind blank and taking the money he gives you all a cheery wave and teleports away. Behind him the platter, now empty, drops to the ground.

**OVERSEER ANNOUNCEMENT**
Shevar Besnik steps forward, his clothing ripped but a smile on his face. “Pathfinders! We’re almost to... well, the crater where Gallowspire once stood. Be sure you cut down any opposition; we don’t want them creeping down after us or blocking our exit!” Shevar raises a weapon and charges into battle.
With a final surge, the expeditionary force of Pathfinders finishes off the last of its foes. Shevar Besnik nods to Ollysta Zadrian, and the two lead the expedition to the edge of a massive crater. The crater’s sides are smooth and glassy, as if melted by an immense heat. Several passageways extend from the sides of the crater, many of them nearly blocked by tons of fallen earth. Ollysta Zadrian narrows her eyes and points at the bottom with her sword. “That way leads to the Catacombs, and beyond it the wards set up by the Whispering Tyrant. Steel yourselves,” she says, sheathing her weapon.
GMs, please begin part 3.
Sarek, the Cinnabar Sage
|
"Thank you, sir." Sarek says to Caleban.
On arriving at the crater, Sarek tightens his grip on his glaive, takes a breath, and strides forward, ready for whatever he might face.
Totally not ready for whatever we are going to face.
| GMAndrewW |
Reaching the crater you find that it is exremely deep. the sides are sloped and rocky and look largely climable for those of you not flying. It takes about 20 minutes for you to reach the bottom.
Reaching the bottom of the crater you move into the passageway beyond, where Ollysta Zadrian stands in a half collapsed chamber. A ball of light shines brightly in her hand, although its power seems dimmed by the oppressive atmosphere of the room. The walls are constructed entirely from the bones of thousands of humanoid creatures, fused together with unknown power. Pathfinders, it is time to make our way to the wards and move beyond them. Be cautious, and may the gods watch over you.
I assume you wait until this point for buffing. The next encounter will happen after 10 minutes of exploring the underground passageways. I assume those of you with heightened awareness active will use it. Communal stoneskin has run out and Lenny has stopped using his Divine Favour wand
The chambers beyond are clammy and oppresive. The walls seem to radiate cold, deathly energies from thick black veins of what looks like old blood which oozes between the bones of the walls. The place is also extremely gloomy and no nonmagical light source seems to help.
OK, lighting in here is dim light throughout. Please remind me of what vision and light source you have in your initial post. Non magical light sources do not increase the light level, magical ones have their radius halved, nothing can increase the light beyond regular. You are also pretty sure the entire place is desecrated.
Pressing forward you enter a large chamber which appears to be perfectly preserved. Mounted on the walls here are numerous severed heads of a variety of magical creatures and beings, writhing in a mockery of life. You are not alone, scattered around the room are three starngely crystaline blobs and two piles of what looks like black sludge. Also, there is a sound in the room, a humming, strangely insistent noise.....
The tables in the room block movement, the chairs are difficult terrain, you can ignore the heads, they are up a height. Otherwise the chamber is completely open

OK
Lenny finds his mind reeling at the insistent, intrusive humming noise. He stands there slack jawed and his weapon, and banner, drop to the ground.
Lenny is stunned.
Daxter manages to hold himself together and resist the insistent noise. He recognnises the crystaline entities as carnivorous crytals. They have significant resistance to weapons which cannot be overcome, they are immune to cold and electricity (as well as ooze immunities), they resist fiire and if they hit you they can render you helpess and then turn you into crystal from which another one of these things will burst in a few hours. The black sludgy things are gravesludge, another ooze. They resist everything except good weapons, are immune to acid, cold, negative energy, fear, death effects, energy drain and the usual ooze immunities and if they kill you they can turn you into a juju zombie.
Lastly, I should have mentioned, the chamber is 20' high.

Delay until after yellow moves. The plan is to Wall of Force once 1 or 2 of them move into the narrow part of the room right in front of us.

Oy. Well once I regain my senses I can use my Bless Weapon wand to give each of you guys good aligned weapons so you can hurt the gravesludges, although it seems like the carnivorous crystals are definitely the bigger threat.
@Daxter, I definitely like the idea of dividing and conquering with Wall of Force. We could use some breathing room, so we can protect ourselves against their aura and focus fire, since it sounds like their attacks are super deadly. Let's hope they have a slow movement rate.
| GMAndrewW |
The pool of black sludge surges forward towards Brutus. It strikes him twice in quick succession, leaving patches of dead skin where its sludge smears across his arms. With a sense of growing horror Brutus discovers that he is now also leaking negative energy!

Emberwick drops holy fire on the two malignant puddles of black goo. Both of the creatures hiss and squeel in a most disconcerting way. Roary starts to leak negative energy!

Bold may act: The carnivorous crystals have no way through the wall of force. I am therefore letting those in bold go on the assumption that you do not go past the wall of force. If you do (for example Sareks teleporting shennanigans then this will change. Lenny I have accounted for 5 points of lifelink to Roary.

@Ember, Hell yeah, a nice 50 damage apiece is a great way to start this out. @Daxter, that wall is working wonders! @GM Awesome, thank you for handling the Life Link accounting.
As a move action I will pick up my fauchard/flag. As a swift I will use Weal's Champion, and as a standard I will attack Red. If I hit then everyone will gain +3 to hit Red and +2 to damage Red for 3 rounds (both are competence bonuses and stack with my Flagbearer bonuses which are back up now). BTW I just noticed, should we all be starting with a few extra THPs thanks to good ole Archie?
Lenny blinked in rapid succession as he regained his senses. "Sorry, friends, not sure what happened there. Fear not, these vile creatures will soon be smitten!"
attack +Weal's -soft cover: 1d20 + 21 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 21 + 6 - 4 = 40
damage +Weal's: 1d10 + 14 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 14 + 3 = 27

Lenny manages to slash into the disgusting black sludge but finds much of the force of is blow is deflected.
As far as I can tell your attack does not count as good? You would have had some temps from Archie but I saw no rolls for him. You may get a chance if you take down these two quickly as the walls lasts for 12 rounds.

Note, for Roary and Sarek, you do not benefit from weals champion or banner unless you delay until after Lenny. Please make it clear if you are doing that.

Because of the buffs, Roary will attack red.
"Let's see how you like this!"
Rage, Reckless Abandon/Havoc, Weal, Flag, Blink, Power Attack
Weapon is +5 while raging, so should bypass DR
Attack 1: 1d20 + 32 + 5 + 3 + 2 + 2 - 5 ⇒ (13) + 32 + 5 + 3 + 2 + 2 - 5 = 52
Dam 1: 2d4 + 21 + 15 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (2, 4) + 21 + 15 + 2 + 2 = 46
Miss: 1d100 ⇒ 99
Attack 2: 1d20 + 27 + 5 + 3 + 2 + 2 - 5 ⇒ (16) + 27 + 5 + 3 + 2 + 2 - 5 = 50
Dam 2: 2d4 + 21 + 15 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1, 2) + 21 + 15 + 2 + 2 = 43
Miss: 1d100 ⇒ 95
Attack 3: 1d20 + 22 + 5 + 3 + 2 + 2 - 5 ⇒ (17) + 22 + 5 + 3 + 2 + 2 - 5 = 46
Dam 3: 2d4 + 21 + 15 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3, 3) + 21 + 15 + 2 + 2 = 46
Miss: 1d100 ⇒ 86
Also GM, I forgot to mention his AC is 14 while raging. Probably can't miss except a fumble at this level.
