Actually, to keep things moving more quickly I will also roll around into round 2.
Sarek save against calm: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21
Unfortunately Sarek again finds himself distracted by the truly heavenly scent.
Round 1/2
18 Sarek - calmed
15 Plant Lady
13 Lenny
9 Giganto Goat
Emberwick
8 Roary
7 Brutus - calmed
7 Archon - calmed
Brutus and the archon round 1 actions, Sarek round 2, all are calmed.
Group Effects:
Brutus 169|159
Sarek 137|129, Stoneskin (140)
Emberwick 126|120
Lenny 69|114, Stoneskin (130), Blink 3 rounds
Roary 170|161 (222|213)
Archon 24|13, DR10/evil
Alarune Quickend (1), 56 damage
Barometz 16 damage
Lenny 236648

"Sarek, Brutus, you ok buddies? We could really use your help over here! Tree goat hits like a truck!"
FWIW guys if we can do a small amount of damage to one of the calmed people, it breaks the spell for all calmed targets. It seems like it is an ongoing aura, so it can still affect us again, but if we can spare a slap for nonlethal in one of their directions, we can hopefully get our full party in on this fight.
Also, @GM, I noticed that the goat's damage roll was 5d10+15+15. Any chance that second +15 was a typo?
| GMAndrewW |
It was not a typo, it was its bonus damage from power attack. Breaking people out doesnt help much as you make the save at the start of your turn and therefore always lose your turn if you fail the save. I just did them in batches for ease as those were the people acting. You always get a new save at the start of each turn.
Lenny 236648
|
Well, poop. Alrighty, just trying to salvage things. BTW, I am loving the description of all of the action!
Brutus "The Mountain" Ironheart
|
Confused by his companions' bout of hostility, Brutus assumes a defensive stance but otherwise holds his ground.
"Stay your blades. All of this ugliness helps no one." Swift to start crane style. Standard for full defense.
The archon bobs in place, content to enjoy the natural beauty. Total defense for the archon as well.
Lenny 236648
|
"How about telling that to her!? Or maybe helping me with all of these guts that keep trying to spill out of me?"
Emberwik
|
"Perhaps I can just burn this whole forest to the ground. Will that get you to do something useful?" Emberwik calmly says to his allies, eyes locked on the giant plant ram.
| GMAndrewW |
OK, moving us on. Sarek take your turn when you can, you are calmed so it isnt likely to impact on whats about to happen!
The Alarune glowers at Lenny and Roary and mutters something.
What sweet playthings you might have made but now you have made me bleed my own sap. Giganto Goat, get this stupid dolt off me!
With that she silently detonates another mass of green light, engulfing Lenny and Roary which Emberwick notes is another quickened glitterdust. Sarek recognises it as well and it snaps him out of his reverie for the moment. Fortunately both are able to avert their eyes in time.
Sarek, this happens after your turn you you are still calmed for your go, just pushing us forward to keep things rolling.
She then sends a mass of thorny vines snaking out at Lenny! The first wraps aroud his leg, shredding flesh and leaving bloody wounds which are sure to scar. The second lashes across his chest and tries to wrap around his throat but he slips away just in time. The third takes advantage of him being off balance and coils around his right arm, crushing and twisting! The last grabs his other arm in a tight embrace before she drops him. Bleeding heavily, Lenny slowly falls over!
Lenny takes 65 damage and 9 bleed, stoneskin saves his life. At the start of his turn Lenny takes 9 bleed and falls unconscious. Lenny I dont see anything in your gear which would prevent this like an aegis of recovery or talisman.
The Barometz rumbles forward and strikes out at Roary with its massive horns. It impales him, lifts him high in the air and tosses him through the trees to land face down in the disgusting mossy ground. His mouth is full of the stench of rot and decay!
Roary takes 51 damage after DR, is thrown back 10' and knocked prone.
This time Emberwick finds himself distracted by the scent, as does the archon, which bobs noiselessly in the air.

Just as a note for everyone, this encounter has no increase for champion difficulty, this is the regular 12-13 soldier difficulty encounter. Also as a reminder, Lenny remains lifelinked to everyone Lenny you may choose to drop any of them as an immediate action before dropping if you wish
Emberwik

Emberwik releases the staff of fire, and grows giant wings of shadow and darkness Swift Action. He flies forward to Lenny and draws the Staff of Healing as he moves. With a 60ft fly speed, I have just enough to get to Lenny and heal him.
"Fear not, I shall not let you die. My Lord would not permit it when we all have so much more to suffer."
Wings of Darkness (Su): This ability functions as the dark tapestry mysteryUM revelation of the same name. You must be at least 7th level to select this revelation.
Wings of Darkness (Su): As a swift action, you can manifest a set of translucent, inky wings that grant you a fly speed of 60 feet with good maneuverability. You can use these wings for 1 minute per day per oracle level. This duration does not need to be consecutive, but it must be spent in 1-minute increments. At 11th level, you can use these wings to fly as if with overland flight once per day. Used in this way, the ability lasts for up to 1 hour per level, and counts as your total use of this ability for the day. You must be at least 7th level to select this revelation.

I do have something I can do to help save myself. I will use the Hero's Defiance paladin spell as an immediate action. Sadly I think if I got hit harder so that it triggered before my turn I think I could have spared myself the bleed damage. Ah well. Hero's Defiance heals me for 7d6+14, and I get 6 extra from Emberwik's heal (thank you very much!), so it looks a little less dire at least. I do not have an immediate to halt the life link though, so I also lose another 5 HP as I heal Roary for 5 HP with Lifelink, which is fine as I'd rather keep those up if I can.
Hero's Defiance: 7d6 + 14 ⇒ (2, 5, 2, 6, 5, 6, 1) + 14 = 41
If my math is right, then I should be at 37/114 HP and most importantly I remain standing and retain my weapon. For my turn I would love to withdraw, but I can see I have no exit strategy, so all I can do is hope we can burst down the Alarune, since she is really wrecking us. Free action activate Boots of speed, full attacking Alarune, then switching to Giganto Goat if I somehow drop her. After attacking I will 5' back to give me a slightly better chance of retreat next round.
"Ugh, I got a little light-headed there for a sec, guys. I think Plant Lady's trying to kill me." he says as if it has just occurred to him.

"Strangely enough, I feel as though she tried the same to me. Let us return the favor in kind."
| GMAndrewW |
I have you at 62 HP. The attacks left you on 4, the bleed took you to -5 and life link took you to -10. Heroes Definace gave you 41 bringing you to 31 and Emberwicks heal adds another 31 bringing you to 62. Let me know if you think that is right. This also means you are conscious on your turn and may act so we retcon things a bit and let you go as well.

Much appreciated! You are right, I forgot to actually count Emberwik's heal. Oh yeah, I am going to activate my Sihedron Medallion as a free action as well, for an extra 1d10+5 THPs since I need all the help I can get. I edited my post above for my turn, but I will roll the medallion down here.

Hehe, Lenny barely speaks common.
Brutus "The Mountain" Ironheart
|
Roused from the enchantment by the violence done to his companions, Brutus springs into action.
Unable to reach the temptress within the undergrowth, the Mountain pits himself against the monstrous goat. He sprints closer and closer until he's underneath its deadly horns. Rearing back with one enormous fist, he smashes it into the tangle of leaves and vines hoping to strike something vital within.
Move. Attack.
Attack (Lenny stuff, power attack): 1d20 + 19 + 4 - 3 ⇒ (3) + 19 + 4 - 3 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 8 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 4 + 6 = 23
If the goat has combat reflexes he'll get another AoO. If he hits I'll use a swift for Lay on Hands.
The archon, still convinced this whole thing was unnecessary, zips down to aid the toppled barbarian.

Brutus rushes in but his blow simply deflects off the mass of brambles and thick bark that make up the creature.
You miss, also most of Lennys stuff is not active, no flag bonuses, no inspire, due to the calm emotions. You do have the champions weal benefits as they are competence.
The plucky little archon bobs forwrd through the air and gives Roary a snuggle, engulfing him in its glowy aura.

Roary Flamebearer
|
Sorry folks been busy this morning.. This would probably be over if Roary could rage lol.. Hopefully we can get it figured out.
Question Gm, how does blink work when prone, the spell states you can move any direction even up, so was he ever prone? Im wondering if it will take a move action to stand and if he is deterred by the difficult terrain being ethereal?
| GMAndrewW |
You are still prone. You can try and ignore the difficult terrain between you and the Alarune and 5' step up to her using the provision below but if you get shunted you have still taken a 5' step and wont be able to move again. The shunt will leave you out of reach. Low is always bad for you on these sort of rolls
While blinking, you can step through (but not see through) solid objects. For each 5 feet of solid material you walk through, there is a 50% chance that you become material. If this occurs, you are shunted off to the nearest open space and take 1d6 points of damage per 5 feet so traveled.
Roary Flamebearer
|
Ok, he has enough movement, 40', to get there regardless. Was mostly just wondering if he could get an attack this round. Looks like a no.
Roary stands and moves next to the plant lady..
"I don't like you very much right now.."
| GMAndrewW |
As Roary moves in the Alarune lashes out at him with her vines which slice into his legs and drag him close her her. She presses herself against him and breathily mutters
Why hello there sweetmeat, back again so soon
Blink doesn't save him and Roary takes 24 damage and 9 bleed although life link will clear that if it is still in place on Lennys turn

Also, I'd like to use a charge of my Four-Leaf Clover on the next saving throw I take, which will add a +2 luck bonus.
Roary Flamebearer
|
I'm fairly certain he does not stay grappled. She managed to hit him and therefore could grapple, but a moment later his is ethereal and therefore not grappled any longer. Unless I'm reading this wrong.
EDIT: Doing a little reading into this I'm not sure you can even grapple a blinking creature at all. Unless she can grapple ethereal.
| GMAndrewW |
Only a single blow from Sarek lands on the massive monster. Meanwhile, the Alarune tries to blind Lenny and Emberwick with quickened glitterdust but both are wise to her tricks now and are not affected.
Growling at the ineffectiveness she once again turns on Lenny.

I agree he is not immune to grapple, if the creature can grapple ethereal creatures. Regardless he would not be grappled on his turn correct?
Lenny 236648
|
Yup, time to play more Whack-A-Lenny it seems. I will pop another Hero's Defiance. At this rate though, I am burning through my resources. So after activating, I take the 10 Lifelink damage to heal Emberwik and Roary, which by count puts me at 30/114 HP. It looks like I forgot to actually take my 5' step on the map last turn, and my 5' options are all blocked right now, so my retreat options are rather limited with the goat's reach. I would like to delay and hope a path opens up.
Hero's Defiance: 7d6 + 14 ⇒ (1, 6, 4, 6, 5, 6, 6) + 14 = 48
"I ain't feelin' so good boss. Somebody keeps trying to make me go all inside out." he says weakly as he tries to step back and bumps into his allies. "Oh, sorry, didn't see you there. Hey can I get through? I think I need to go lay down. Just for a bit."
| GMAndrewW |
Lenny delays (life link still triggers) and as a result that leaves the Barometz free to act. It bellows and tramples through the group.
The Barometz is trampling you. You may either take an opportunity attack against it at -4 or you may make a reflex save for half damage. Roary, as this is area effect damage you will only take half damage
We will move on when I see what people do. If you dont make an OA by tomorrow morning I will assume you are making a reflex save and make it for you. It has the speed to hit everyone, including the archon.

Not sure if Sarek is included in that trample. If so, he'll make the Attack of Opportunity. If not, if the movement to trample that doesn't include him triggers an attack of opportunity, I will make that instead.
Haste, Power Attack: 1d20 + 24 - 3 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 24 - 3 + 1 = 42
Damage: 1d10 + 26 ⇒ (7) + 26 = 33
Confirmation roll: 1d20 + 24 - 3 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 24 - 3 + 1 = 42
Crit damage: 2d10 + 52 ⇒ (8, 5) + 52 = 65
Roary Flamebearer

Can it end it's turn in my square?
Roary will take a swipe as the creature moves through.
Attack+: 1d20 + 23 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 23 + 3 - 4 = 29
Dam: 2d4 + 13 + 2 ⇒ (2, 2) + 13 + 2 = 19
Miss: 1d100 ⇒ 48

I am assuming I don't have a choice with calm emotions in effect, but with my low HP I need to try to dodge regardless. Although I guess if I survive this it will break the effect. So I will use my Lucky Horseshoe for an extra +3
Reflex: 1d20 + 15 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 15 + 3 = 29
Brutus "The Mountain" Ironheart
|
Reflex: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
| GMAndrewW |
Emberwick is currently holding a staff of healing so I assume he will attempt the save
Sarek takes a massive chunk out of the creature as it runs over him but Roary cannot get past the lashing thorny branches of its hide. Everyone else is run over by the massive truck of a critter!
All the reflex saves fail. Brutus, Lenny and Emberwick take 44 damage. Sarek and the Archon take 34 due to DR. Roary takes 16 due to blink and DR. Lenny, I think this may well kill you unless you have more shennanigans? You do have your immediate action available.
Brutus and Emberwick are once again entranced by the plant.
Reflex vs trample , Emberwick: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Reflex vs trample , Archon: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Trample damage: 5d10 + 15 ⇒ (1, 8, 6, 9, 5) + 15 = 44
Will, Brutus: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (2) + 19 = 21
Will, Roary: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
Will, Emberwick: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22
Will, Saarek: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
Round 3|4
Sarek
Plant Lady
Lenny
Giganto Goat
Emberwick
Roary
Brutus - calmed, maybe?
Archon - unconscious
Bold may act: Emberwick is calmed and therefore cannot take any aggresive actions. Roary, if you can kill the Alarune then Brutus will be able to act but is otherwise calmed.
Group Effects: Life Link

Sarek 104|129, Stoneskin (130)
Emberwick 15|120

Archon -10|13, DR10/evil
Alarune Quickend GD (3), 123 damage
Barometz 114 damage
Emberwik
|
Emberwik would no longer be under the effects of Calm Emotion; since Giganto Goat trampled Emberwik and is officially after the Plant Lady on initiative, Emberwik taking damage would negate the effect of her Calm Emotions.
Emberwik calls upon the dark healing of his master, then flies beyond Giganto Goat's reach. then shifts backwards.

You make the calm emotions save at the start of your turn so it largely doesnt matter if something attacks you off turn excdpt for things like immediate actions and opportunity attacks. You may take non offensive actions such as buffs and healing and may cast defensively as you choose as the location is obviously dangerous even if the cretures around you do not appear to be.
| GMAndrewW |
Emberwik calls upon the dark healing of his master, then flies beyond Giganto Goat's reach.
[dice=Cure Light Wounds Mass]1d8+13
Are you casting that defensively? It isnt clear to me what your concentration modifier is. You will provoke from the Barometz flying away. Do you want to delay this until after Roary, Brutus annd Sarek to see what the sitution is after they have acted?
Roary Flamebearer
|
Roary uses the Allied offensive token on the Plant lady and gives it his best.
"Please die stupid plant lady!"
Power Attack: 1d20 + 23 + 3 + 2 - 5 ⇒ (10) + 23 + 3 + 2 - 5 = 33

Miss: 1d100 ⇒ 20 miss..
3rd Attack: 1d20 + 13 + 3 + 2 + 2 - 5 ⇒ (18) + 13 + 3 + 2 + 2 - 5 = 33

Miss: 1d100 ⇒ 51
Confirm 3rd: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (8) + 15 = 23
If she goes down Roary will enter a rage as a free action and I believe his blink goes away next round.

Oy! I feel like someone has it out for me. I do have one more Hero’s Defiance but then I am without a lifeline for the rest of this brutal scenario. As for the calm emotions thing, since I delayed and then got attacked, am I able to act normally now?
| GMAndrewW |
| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Emberwik brings some soothing relief to his allies (Holding off adding anything to Lenny until we see if he is dead or not)
Is Roary there for the heal, low is bad: 1d100 ⇒ 53
The stupid plant lady obliges Roary as he splits her down the middle with his final swing. The stench of rotting vegetation is pungent in the clearing and Roary is now coated with thick, purple sap.

No, I would not allow you to use delay shennigans to get around the perfume. However, she is dead now so you can act, if you are alive.

Oh I’m definitely gonna choose life over death. Give me a bit to post on my PC. Typing up long posts on my phone is a pain.
Brutus "The Mountain" Ironheart
|
No longer bound by the foul woman's aura, Brutus finds it easier to challenge the giant ram again. After marching through the foliage past his opponent's deadly horns, the Mountain lunges for the ram's foreleg. The paladin assumes a defensive stance as he struggles to hold the beast in place.
"Your trampling days are over beast!" he roars.
Move which provokes. If the AoO hits, use lay on hands. Free action for defensive stance. Standard to grapple.
Grapple (aid, stance, flank from alliance offensive): 1d20 + 23 + 1 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 23 + 1 + 2 + 4 = 48
