As the group step into the massive chamber creatures begin to move. Two enormous skeletal creatures move to engage the group and, high above, a gargantuan spectral dragon emerges from the wall.

They are the same as the ones you met in the Silent Shrine. You learn nothing new. Wind Wall will not stop a breath weapon unless it a gaseous one.

Daxter moves forward and casts a spell. A thin green ray can be seen headed towards green.

Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

It must make a DC24(already adjusted for penalty) Fortitude Save versus disintegrate. If it fails it takes 24d6 ⇒ (1, 4, 4, 4, 5, 2, 1, 3, 4, 6, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 2, 6, 2, 6, 6, 3, 4, 6) = 87 damage, if it succeeds it takes 5d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 5, 4, 5) = 17 damage.


Brutus wards himself and drops into a defensive stance while Daxter darts forward into the line of fire and blasts a small hole in green.

Oops, totally forgot that you all also need to make saves against the starvation auras of each Gashdoroku. Please make these at the start of your turn, two DC24 fort saves or you take the damage in the spoiler below and are fatigued. Brutus saves against both, Daxter fails against both. You must save every turn.

The dragon waits, letting green get into positionn. It stomps forward, opens its mouth, and unleashes another hail of bones and debris, ripping through the group. Lenny and Brutus manage to evade much of the damage but the rest take the full force of it.

Lenny and Brutus take 26, Roary takes 20 due to shennaigans, every else takes 52

The dragon then silently glides out of the wall, twists in mind air and settles into position above the Gashdoroku. It opens its mouth and disgorges a torrent of negative energy which sweeps over the undead skeleton and the entire group. Its eyes blaze with hatred and malice as it notes that both Emberwick and Brutus seem entirely unaffected!. Daxter crumples to the ground, unconscious.

Sarek and Lenny pass taking 33 negative energy damage. Roary takes 33 due to blink. Daxter takes 66 and a negative level.

The dragons eyes then blaze as it casts a quickened spell at Sarek. He recognises it as quickened Finger of Death

Emberwick brings some relief to the party but Roary flickers out just as the spell is about to land. However, Daxters eyes do flicker open!

Then the light around the pillar activtes. From the side facing the large green rock emerald energy floods out into that quarter of the room close to the Pillar. Fortunately, perhaps, no-one is standing there.

I second that! With those rolls, I really think you may have one-shotted that thing. Bravo! Next we've got 3 of us to finish off the other one, and then we can tackle the dragon. Either way we've already started to spread out so we'll be less vulnerable to the dragon's next breath weapon/AoE spells. In just a few turns I think our odds of success here are looking a hell of a lot better.


Lenny brings much of the group back to better health.

Roary charges yellow however his charge route brings him past green and the dragon, both of which lash out at him! He jumps over the clumsy swing of the Gashdoroku. The dragon though snaps out at him with its spectral jaws. They pass through his flesh, leaving him feeling chilled to the bone.

Hell yeah! 1 down. But yikes 2 negative levels per hit is gonna get real scary if the dragon has 5 attacks though.
@Brutus, since you can't full attack I think you should use the Allied Offensive aid token so we can hopefully drop Green.
Of course if Sarek's attacks drop it, can you death ward Sarek, yourself, or me?
I can death ward someone on my next turn.
@Daxter, can you summon a lantern archon chorus and spread them around the battlefield? We definitely don't want to clump them up in a nice breath weapon/fireball formation with us, but if we can scatter them around the room, it would force the dragon to either waste actions taking them out or ignore them and let the plink damage pile up (and help finish off Green if necessary).

Brutus crashes into the Gashdoroku but it remains standing.

It turns its empty eye sockets on to Sarek. Its massive jaws snap out, tearing into his neck and would grab him if not for a small talisman around his neck which glows and fades away. (talisman of freedom activates). It then tears him apart with its claws causing a second little talimsan to softly glow and vanish.

Sarek takes 78 damage which triggers one of his lifes breath talismans which heals him for 5d8 + 9 ⇒ (8, 6, 5, 8, 1) + 9 = 37 damage which restores him to life. Sarek you also gain a negative level.

The dragon lets out a low growl as its slowly beating spectral wings keep it hovering in the air. Its eyes fixate on Lenny and a beam of black light lances from its forehead straight at him. Emberwick and Daxter recognise it as an Energy Drain spell! It strikes him in the chest, withering him horrifically as bits of his skin and flesh turn to dust! The dragon then casts a second, quickened spell, which is recognised as another Finger of Death. Lenny in engulfed in black flames.

Lenny takes 7 negative levels and now must make a fortitude save versus finger of death. You may roll your own save provided it is the first dice roll in your next post. I am holding off starting the next set of turns until we see the result. Remember the save is at -7.

As the dragon hovers dust, debris and other detritus in the chamber is disturbed into a massive cloud of concealing rubbish.

Vision issues:

If a creature of size Large or larger with this feat hovers within 20 feet of the ground in an area with lots of loose debris, the draft from its wings creates a hemispherical cloud with a radius of 60 feet. The winds generated can snuff torches, small campfires, exposed lanterns, and other small, open flames of non-magical origin. Clear vision within the cloud is limited to 10 feet. Creatures have concealment at 15 to 20 feet (20% miss chance). At 25 feet or more, creatures have total concealment (50% miss chance, and opponents cannot use sight to locate the creature).
Please bear this in mind when making any attacks. It is a 60' cloud around the dragon so hits the majority of the room. This also makes spelll targeting impossible beyond 20'. Before anyone asks, the dragon seems unconcerned by the effect

Additionally, I have the Ouroborous Rebirth boon from 7-11: when I would be reduced to 0 or fewer hit points, as an immediate action I can cross the boon off to recover 3d8+5 hit points before dying or falling unconscious.

OK, Sarek is currently unconscious with 1 negative level. A 20 would normally hit a Gashdoroku's touch AC but there is an effect in place in the encounter which changes things. @Lenny, yes you can use legalistic for the save.

Lenny resists the most potent form of the baleful magic but wounds still rip open across his skin.

@Daxter, I am very sorry I gave what obviously turned out to be bad advice with the summon. Maybe a spellcraft or Arcana check can determine what extra effect we are up against and how to counter it? Otherwise, they can give us each aid for a small psuedo-heal at least. Do you have UMD to Death Ward yourself?
@Ember, can you death ward me or Sarek? We obviously need it to survive this dragon. I am really regretting not prebuffing with mine, but I was really worried about wasting it.
Whichever you don't get I will get, although that will leave Sarek down as my Lifelink will only bring him to 0. I could channel again, but I am pretty sure if I don't protect myself from negative energy I am guaranteed to die next turn. I am very open to suggestions!
@all don't forget we have to watch out for the pillar. Last round it blasted the corner by the green gem. Again, hopefully an Arcana/Spellcraft check can help us deactivate or at least predict its effects.


Currently you can only see two faces of the Pillar. It certainly looks like this is the focus of the ritual that you were sent here to stop, the one that will unleash a massive wave of negative energy, kill everything in hundreds of miles and raise them as undead. Sarek and Daxte can pretty easily tell that the runes on the sides facing you relate to the Thassilonian magic schools of Illusion and Evocation.

The ritual can be stopped but it is difficult to do so while battling the undead guardians. You could destroy the tirual stones by doing enough damage to them. You could move them but they look heavy. You could disrupt their magical energies with an arcana or spellcraft check combined combined with an effect which disrupts, suppresses or manipulates the flow of magic such as dispel magic. You may have other things which could also work if you want to try them. Alll of these things will take up your actions.

The last time I ran this one of the PCs hit the entire room with an earthquake and that was that for the ritual. You have no way of determining the effect that caused the lantern archons to miss.

Emberwik will need your scrolls to cast it. My advice is you retreat to the back of the room. Since Sarek is unconcious, best I can do for now is patch you guys up. Otherwise I will spend a full round getting to him then rummaging through his bags, leaving me open for an attack that could remove the possibility of getting Death Ward cast.

Bear in mind you can only currently see 20'. You need to be able to see the targets of your cure spell. I also need a will and fortitude save at the start of your turn.

Actually an 8d6 heal from the aid token ought to be enough to leave your turn open for offense or Death Warding, Ember. That TK charge spell could be huge right now to cast on Roary.
FWIW my Death Ward scroll is in my wrist sheath, and Sarek mentioned his is in his belt. I will probably be death warding myself this round.


TKcharge requires you to be able to see the person you are using it on.

Heh, I assumed it required touch and was figuring he'd have to fly over to touch him. Only having to fly within 20' is actually a lot easier than what I was thinking. You mentioned that the dragon is clearly unaffected, but can we tell if the cloud is obscuring the gashdoroku's vision?

Healing energy washes over the group and then a fireball blossoms over the dragon and the undead giant. The gashdoroku takes the full effect but the dragon seems to barelt notice it.

Then the red pillar activates, filling a section of the room with freezing cold. It just misses Sarek but the dragon, gashdoroku and one of the archons is struck. The lantern archon flash feezes and smashes to pieces on the ground, its remains fading away. Just how many lantern archons will this group sacrifice! The dragon seems barely bothered but the remaining Gashdoroku finds it all a bit too much and crumbles into a pile of bones.

Well, let's keep it that way! he thinks as he pops a scroll into his hand with a flick of his wrist and starts sounding the words out slowly. He flies up to rejoin his allies and waves his banner, "We made it, guys! Let's rally and slay this dragon!"

It looks like you forgot Lifelink this round, so Sarek should get 5 more HP, and I should be 5 down. Swift to draw scroll of Death Ward, standard to cast it on myself, move to fly closer. I believe I got the math right, but my goal is to be 20' from the dragon and within 20' of as many of my allies as I can.
@Roary when you approach the dragon, if you fly to the square between Brutus and the dragon (and 20' up), that should put you inside my flag aura.
