Bruf |
I am off to bed, but before I go...
Drenched in viscera, Tyler freezes in place and cries out, "I need an adult!"
Bruf quickly shushes him, like the big brother trying to silence his sibling before mom is alerted. Sniffling, the child retreats to cover to clean himself up. With quick sideways glances at his fellow Starfinders, he wordless conveys "that never happened."
Bruf then grins at the onset of combat as his visor drops down and the motors in his suit whir up. He lashes out with two quick punches.
Woot! First time playing since I actually bought this power armor, and I am already loving the fact that I am always armed. Full attack on purple.
attack 1: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 11 - 4 = 261d10 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
attack 2: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 11 - 4 = 151d10 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Selene Scintilla |
Selene moves to get Tyler out of the way I'll help sort you out later kid she says trying to be reassuring. She then spins to get a good look at these things before firing two magic missiles at purple
mysticism: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28
magic missiles: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 4) + 2 = 7
((Looking for special attacks and defenses))
Sarangari Steelscales |
Steelscales gives a mental command to his armor. His new reaction cannon takes aim at the demon-thing on his right and opens fire.
Attck vs Purple KAC: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
Pierce Damage: 2d10 + 8 ⇒ (9, 6) + 8 = 23
GM bigboom |
Selene recognizes these creatures as Demon Fleshrenders. They're medium outsiders, have darkvision, a climb speed and a bite. You also get three peices of information:
1) Special attack: Flame Gout, which is a ranged fire attack with an increment of 30 feet and unlimited ammunition
2) DR: 5/good
3) Resistances: acid 5, cold 5, fire 5
Bruf reacts quickly and quickly attacks with his power-assisted fists!! The first blow lands but the creature seems to shrug off some of the impact, receiveing 11 points of damage! The second punch misses!
Selene, I assume you're doing a full action magic missile attack? In which case you get and additional missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 damage.
Ensuring little Tyler is out of the line of fire, the air around Selene glows with arcane energy as 3 bolts of energy fly out, striking the demon for 9 points of damage!!
Steelscales' cannon almost instantaneously spins up and fires a volley but misses!!!
Round 1 cont'd
The following characters in bold may take their turn:
Bruf
Selene
Twich
Steelscales
Red demon
Purple demon (-20)
Also, you've received an aid token!! The aid token benefits available to you are on slide 2.
You can use aid tokens once per encounter and being a 4-player group, I suggest you use it early and use it often. So if you use it now, we can then pass it on to another table. And on your next mission, I'll see about getting you another one.
BOT-EE-licious |
Gonna bot Twich to squeeze in another round...
Mysticism, identify: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Recognizing these demons for what they are, Twich yells out, "They're also immune to electricity and poison!!"
Twich casts magic missile and launches them at purple!!!
Magic Missile: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4, 2) + 3 = 13
PEW PEW! Purple is hit for 13 points of damage!!!
GM bigboom |
Crunch Munch!: 2d2 ⇒ (2, 1) = 3
Red bite: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21
P damage: 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Red snaps at Selene with a vicious bite, teeth digging into her flesh for 14 points of damage!!
Purple bite: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28
P damage: 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Purple bites hard into Bruf and luckily, Bruf's toughness negates some of the otherwise painful bite, suffering 8 point of damage!!
Round 2
The following characters in bold may take their turn:
Bruf (-8SP)
Selene (-14SP)
Twich
Steelscales
Red Fleshrender
Purple Fleshrender (-33)
Aid token is available!!
Bruf |
"Hey! Get your filthy teeth off of my new armor!" Bruf says as he swats the strange demon away with a couple more augmented punches.
Full attack again focusing fire on purple unless I manage to drop him, then I will switch to Red
attack 1: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 11 - 4 = 161d10 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
attack 2: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 11 - 4 = 261d10 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
GM bigboom |
Bruf's first swing whiffs at air but his follow-up second punch smacks the demon for 13 points of damage!!!
Purple hisses someething at Bruf...
Round 2 cont'd
The following characters in bold may take their turn:
Bruf (-8SP)
Selene (-14SP)
Twich
Steelscales
Red Fleshrender
Purple Fleshrender (-46)
Aid token is available!!
Selene Scintilla |
Selene takes a guarded step away from Purple, blood dripping from where she was bitten, definitely not pleased at that. She then lets fly with magic missiles again magic missiles: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 4) + 2 = 10 force damage.
GM bigboom |
The purple fleshrender goes down under the hail of magic and bullet fire!!
Red bite: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19
P damage: 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
The red fleshrenderer attacks the nearest target, Bruf...but misses!!!
Round 3
The following characters in bold may take their turn:
Bruf (-8SP)
Selene (-14SP)
Twich
Steelscales
Red Fleshrender
Aid token is available!!
Sarangari Steelscales |
May as well use the aid token so another table can have it. Allied Offensive
Steelscales opens up again just as another Starfinder wanders in to help.
Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
Damage: 2d10 + 8 + 2d8 ⇒ (7, 9) + 8 + (6, 6) = 36
Bruf |
”Good job, team! One down, one to go!” Bruf cheers on his allies as he continues to pummel his foes.
Lol you ninja’d me and beat to using allied offensive.
Attack 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 91d10 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Attack 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 251d10 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
GM bigboom |
We're getting close to the end of this mission. Let's line up the next one! Any preferences? And a logistical note, the party can take a 10 min rest in between these missions if desired.
Just a reminder, the Starfinder fleet is currently at Agillae-5 and the Jinsul fleet is at Agillae-4, so if you go on missions there, you'll get some bonuses or penalties as listed in the fleet locations link.
Selene Scintilla |
Selene ponders using her more powerful spells but is rather reluctant to get Bruf in the area of effect by accident. So she goes to the old standby - full round magic missiles.
Magic Missiles: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (3, 3, 4) + 3 = 13
GM bigboom |
The fleshrender is looking quite beat up but it fights on!!!
Red bite: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (8) + 15 = 23
P damage: 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
The red fleshrenderer bites and momentarily latches onto Bruf and despite leaving some teeth marks on Bruf's armor, the attack doesn't penetrate!!
Round 4
Bruf (-8SP)
Selene (-14SP)
Twich
Steelscales
Red Fleshrender (-64)
The target has 6HP left so in the interest of time, I'm gonna call it....
A final round of blows from the party tears into the red fleshrender apart and it falls. Moments later, both fleshrender bodies blink out of existence!!
Combat Concluded!!!
You raise Radaszam on comms and inform him of the double agent named Tsimtsara. He responds, "Good job team. Keep this intel quiet while I track this individual and plug the leak. Keep moving! There are more missions that need doing. Radaszam out!"
Alright, which mission would you like to head to next? First one to get named is where I'll kick off! Let me know if you spend a RP to recover SP.
Bruf |
After the sounds of combat fall silent, Tyler emerges from cover walks over to the corpse of one of the fleshrenders and kicks it for good measure. "Take that, jerkface!"
As Selene approaches and offers to help clean him up, he is much appreciative. "Thanks, miss! So you're a Starfinder too, like Mr. Bruf? And was that magic you were doing? I wanna do magic! Is there s spell that does your homework for you?"
Meanwhile Bruf tries to buff out the scratches in his armor and asks, "So where to next? I'm itching to get behind the wheel and do some dogfighting, but perhaps we should follow the fleet and aid them on Agillae 5?"
With only 8 SP down, I won't bother with a rest yet. I do however make sure to loot the bodies just in case there are some useful tidbits.
Selene Scintilla |
"Yeah. I'm a Starfinder - not quite like Mr Bruf, I'm more of the 'stand back and shoot them from range type'. And yes, that was magic - but ... unfortunately there isn't a spell that does homework. And please call me Selene - we're on the same team."
"I should warn you though, being a technomancer involves a lot of school work - which is probably why my sister thought being an pilot was easy. Boy, was she wrong."
GM bigboom |
There was no treasure to be found from this mission. But no amount of loot compares to the feeling of a mission well done!! Riiiiiight??? Okay, moving on to the next mission!!
Venture-Captain Naiaj’s face appears on a communication screen, her features even paler and more somber than usual. She pauses for a moment before speaking. “A group of elite jinsul starships ambushed one of our scout flights near the starship graveyard orbiting Agillae-5. None of our agents responded to my summons. I assume they’re all dead. The jinsuls have left, but we need to know where they’re going next or we’ll be cleaning up another massacre. Check the remains of our ships for anything that might tip us off about their next target.”
Your starship sensors point you toward a relatively intact Starfinder wreckage drifting among the debris.
As you enter into the ship from the breach in the hull, it's obvious that Jinsul weapons ripped through the vessel, rendering all its major systems inert. Until emergency power is restored, the entire ship is dark, with no atmosphere or gravity. You can board the wreckage without difficulty and survive inside using your armor's environmental protections, although movement within the ship might prove challenging until gravity is restored.
Upon entry through the hull rupture, you find yourself in engineering with the power core right in front of you. The power core is heavily damaged but still capable of accessing emergency power with some jury-rigging.
Tell me where you want to explore next, or better yet, draw a path so that I can narrate you through the various rooms. Map has been revealed in the slides!!

Oh! Selene exclaims as they sight the ship. That's the Parting Glance. Captain Jessyn's ship. Met them once at a party sis dragged me to
Selene grumbles a bit as she tries to help where she can while floating in zero gravity Sis would have loved this she mutters.
Shouldn't we head straight for the bridge? She suggests later
Sarangari Steelscales |
Sarangari latches his boot clamps next to the core. He then gets out some tools and gives it his best shot to fix it.
Engineering: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
And fails miserably.
Twich |
Twich sneaks quietly forward and starts to work on stuff.

Bruf |
Bruf takes some time helping Tyler put on his space suit.
"Now be extra careful. This is not gonna be like the school bus. When I say to knock it off back there, you better listen!" he says with a wag of his finger.
When the ship arrives at the wreckage, Bruf starts to offer his help, but Twich seems to have it all well in hand. When she mentions the lack of life signs he quickly throws his hands on the side of Tyler's helmet in an rather misguided attempt to prevent him from hearing about the deaths of the crew.
"I agree, let's check out the bridge."
He moves up to the door and presses his helmet against the door listening for any movement on the other side, then scans the doorway for blood or other telltale signs.

Perception, Twich: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Perception, Steelscales: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Bruf (and others) check to door for traps or other signs of danger. Finding everything to be all clear, you proceed onto the bridge in marching formation.
Six corpses—three humans, a shirren, a ysoki, and a korasha lashunta identifiable as Captain Jessyn—lie on the floor of the bridge, their bodies and faces mangled by decompression following the destruction of their ship and environmental controls. A cracked screen on the communications station flickers in standby mode.
The location of the 6 corpses is marked on the map with red X's. The communications computer is marked on the map in yellow letters.
Whomever tries to access (or aid accessing) the computer will need to move your token next to the computer. Otherwise, everyone feel free to move your token around wherever you like and take whatever actions you wish.
Bruf |
Bruf looks around the room and sees the carnage, then looks back at his impressionable tag-along. With a glare and stern gesture, he wordlessly tells Tyler to remain outside of the room, then carefully makes his way over to the computer terminal and waves his new friends over.
"Can I help with the clickety-clack bits? Tyler showed me how to use the googles."
computers to aid: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
If the Lone Wolf 6th level feature of my Ace Pilot theme applies, I get an extra +2 to the roll.
GM bigboom |
Bruf finds himself totally at ease with this particular computer. For some unfathomable reason, this computer's designer built an interface that mirrors the controls of the exact model of schoolbus that Bruf drives!
Unfortunately, the completely illogical computer UI throws Twich off and despite having Bruf's assistance, Twich takes longer than she normally would to access a computer.
After 30 minutes of "No wait! I'm almost there!", everyone gets a bit tired of standing around. But Twich finally manages to recover the info: The Parting Glance shared all its data collected about the jinsuls' movements and numbers with a system-wide transmission tower the Starfinders hastily assembled on the twelfth moon of Bastiar-8. Furthermore, disarmed countermeasures indicate the jinsuls who boarded the ship also retrieved this info, likely flagging the transmission tower as their next target.
And as though right on cue, you feel a strange ethereal energy permeate the bridge as three of the corpses reanimates and moves to attack, catching all of you offguard!!

Round 1
The sight of these corpses causes your own lungs to feel like they're violently collapsing!!
At the beginning of everyone's turn, a Fort save is required or take bludgeoning damage.
The following characters in bold may take their turn:
Selene (Fort DC14 or take 1d4+1 B damage)
Bruf (-8SP, Fort DC14 or take 1d4+1 B damage)
Twich (Fort DC14 or take 1d4+1 B damage)
Red Jessyn corpse
Yellow corpse
Blue corpse
Steelscales (Fort DC15 or take 1d4+3 B damage)
Identifying these creatures requires a mysticism roll.
You have an aid token avaiable!! Pew!! Pew!!
Bruf |
Fort: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
"Looks like it's punchin' time again!"
I need to learn to hang out in back. I'm much rather be blasting with my laser. Ah well, at least my armor is helping me tank well.
punch 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 231d10 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

((Do we replenish resolve, spell slots etc between missions?))
GM bigboom |
RP, spell slots, etc. do not replenish in between unless a full rest is available. At present, only 10 minute rests are available between missions.
Selene recognizes the two corpses as lesser nihili and Jessyn as a normal nihili. They are CE undead with darkvision and move at a normal speed. You also know the following three things:
GM bigboom |
Everyone please feel free to roll your own self-damage if you fail the fort save
Concerned that if these things get out of the room, Tyler might be a goner, Bruf swings violently at blue and hits both times for a total of 28 points!!!
Selene takes 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 of bludgeoning damage from the decompression effects! Selene quickly draws her pistol but isn't able to get a bead on her target as her shot misses!!!
Twich also reacts quickly and her magic lands another 12 points of damage on blue!
Slam vs KAC: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32
B damage: 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
The corpse of Jessyn swings at Steelscales and the slam hits home for 9 points of damage!!

Slam vs KAC: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
B damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Yellow and Blue both attack Bruf!! !!ka-dunk!!
But their efforts continue to be hindered by Bruf's armor, causing Bruf to feel only a light pat!

Bruf continues to spar with the reanimated corpses. "So umm, these guys were starfinders right?" he ducks under a swing "Cuz I'm feeling super guilty" he lands a blow "about desecrating their bodies right about now."
punch 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 191d10 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

She fires a volley of magic missiles at red mm: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (4, 2, 1) + 3 = 10 force damage.
GM bigboom |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
You can just barely hear words coming out of blue's mouth, "Myyyyy faaaaamily...... tell them.... I loooooove theeeeeeeem......".
And as soon as blue's sad, final plea escapes its mouth, Bruf punches blue RIGHT IN THE FACE, literally knocking it's head off it's shoulders!!! Poor Blue, who was just a pawn in this game of stars, drops to the ground, dead dead.
Yellow looks directly at Bruf, eyes filled with a dead emptiness that still somehow emanates hate as it spits out, "Ohhhh myyyy god!!! They kiiiilllleed Kennnnny!! Yooooouuu baaaaaastaaaaaarrd!!!!"
Meanwhile, Selene's magic missiles slam into Jessyn for 10 points of damage!!! Jessyn still seems focused on Steelscales though... at least for now.....

Sarangari Steelscales |
"They ain't Starfinders no more. Some kinda magic crap is just using their bodies. We're doin' them a favor."
Since the undead did Steescales the favor of walking up next to him, he gives it a head butt and then spins much faster than seems possible to smack it with his tail.

Bruf |
I thought you had power armor too? Don't you want to use your augmented power armor punches for 1d10? It is surprisingly satisfying I gotta say.
Sarangari Steelscales |
I prefer the 1.5x level to damage. Instead of a damage range of 11-20 it's 14-17. Lower maximum but higher minimum. Which will only grow with my level. Though I do use the slam sometimes.

Seeing the team concentrate their firepower on red, Twich casts the last of her magic missiles at the same target!!!

I'll also have Twich invoke the aid token for additional damage...
Aid token damage: 2d8 ⇒ (6, 7) = 13
GM bigboom |
Showing some suprisingly nimble moves, Steelscales draws upon his knowledge of the ancient martial art of vesk-itsu which utilizes a great deal of head butts and tail lashes. The head butt misses but the tail lash connects for 16 points of damage!!
Twich fires off some more magic missiles that seems suprisingly overpowered. She must have the momentary favor of some deity looking to aid her in her current plight! Those missiles slam home for 21 points of damage!
Both Steelscales and Twich suffer additional effects of decompression, Steel taking 1 point of damage and Twich taking 4!

Bruf |
Ahhh, I forgot about the 1.5x level damage, nice!
Bruf looks around nervously to check to see if anyone else heard the undead talking, specifically accusing him of (re)murder.
Ultimately he decides his first priority has to be to continue to protect the squishies behind him, by pummeling the other undead in front of him.

By now the voices pleading for mercy was really getting to Bruf. "Shhhhh, go to sleep now." he sobbed as he tried his best to put the poor souls out of their misery.
OK time to focus fire. The one on me seems to be struggling to hit/hurt me, so I am going to just provoke so I can fire my artillery laser (mounted on my power armor, so no need to draw it) and help finish off Jessyn's corpse. If the first shot drops her, I will shoot at yellow next. almost forgot the fort save!
fort: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
artillery laser 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 262d8 + 8 ⇒ (3, 8) + 8 = 19
artillery laser 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 172d8 + 8 ⇒ (8, 5) + 8 = 21
