"Thank you for your hospitality Bark. We are with the Pathfinder Society, on a quest to map out a route through these mountains. If they like the route we set, you may be seeing more visitor coming this way in the near future."

Lux gladly follows the fluffy dog, after being initially dismayed that it hadn't obeyed her words to come near. "Well, so much for being a dog expert..." She's initially intrigued at meeting the half-orc hermit. "Oh, hello. I hadn't expected to meet anyone her, so high up in the mountain." She is stunned to silence when he speaks words in a language that she's only recently learned. She doesn't dare answer, but just nods mutely and raises a feeble hand in greeting. I thought we couldn't speak that language around anyone?! Did I misunderstand Urwal? As a newly accepted druid, she's terrified of speaking Druidic even with just other druids around, lest someone overhear and learn the language by her mistake. So speaking it in front of her companions seems wrong to her, even if she might be overreacting...

She follows that others in and is eager to accept some pear schnapps, thankful that the others do the talking for now. She contends to listening and petting Ozul, watching how he'll react to Wilbert.

Mirtha thanks Bark as she warms her hands at the fire. She tells him about their mission to blaze a new trade route.

Teneb crosses his legs as he sits asking Bark how he survives out here.

Bark nods ”A new trade route. I wouldn’t mind having more opportunities to trade seeing how I rarely leave the mountain. You have a dangerous journey up ahead. In order for any caravans to be safe you will need to either make a pact with the orcs or drive them off. I have an understanding with the orc tribes in the region. They leave me alone, and I leave them alone. Mutually assured destruction.”

Conso follows into the cabin and pets the dog and sips the pear schnapps.

Mingxia accepts Bark’s hospitality and asks about the aggressive birds.

The half-orc sighs, ”The local orcs have recently been crossing through my territory more often, even hunting and placing traps. They may have raided the bird's nesting area. This is strange behavior for the local tribes. While they can be as brutal as any other orc tribe, they have kept the arrangement with me for many years. I suspect there is something going on to stir them up a dispute between individual groups over territory, or a perhaps a disease in one of the caps. I haven’t been able to make contact with the tribe to find out what.”

Lux is intrigued as meeting the half-orc, but is reluctant to converse in the druid language openly. She accepts the pear schnapps he offers.

Raznik avoids the dog as much as possible as he slips in the door and gives his goblin teeth smile.

Bark looks concerned as the unknown goblin slips in.

Mirtha quickly explains that Raznik is one of their party and he is nervous of dogs.

Bark nods, ”Welcome Raznik, don’t worry about Wilbert. He doesn't like the taste of goblin. the druid finishes with a smile.

The druid continues, ”I can give you directions to one of the smaller orc scout camps in the region. Your welcome to stay the night here.”

You have a pleasant overnight rest at Bark’s cabin, it’s warm the pear schnapps is quite good and you swap adventure tales around the fireplace.

The next morning comes without event and you set off to continue your journey descending down from the mountain Bark and Wilbert waive goodbye. The overall temperatures are still low but no longer poses a risk. Along your path is a tall cliff that reaches above the surrounding trees. It is immediately clear this cliff would give a great view of the surrounding area and assist with scouting the terrain.

The cliff is 25 feet tall, but there are hardy bushes growing at the bottom of the cliff, which may cushion a fall.

Conso sizes up the cliff and his chance of climbing.

Looking at the cliff Raznik states that goblins don’t like high places.

Weather from Teneb’s encouragement or lack of other volunteers, Conso steps forward and starts climbing the cliff making good progress for the first ten feet when a rock he grabs for gives way. The half-orc manages to hang on avoiding a nasty fall. Regaining his balance Conso continues to climb 15, 20, then 25 feet to the top of the cliff and over the edge.

Turning to Conso, her eyes blazing with rage, she commands the half-orc in a surprisingly stern voice "Slay those beasts!". A compulsion to swing his sword wildly at one of the goats that harmed him fills Conso's sword arm like an unbearable itch.

Diabolic Edict

It's a +1 status bonus to attacks and skills for one round if Conso attacks the goats; -1 penalty if he does something else. He does have to be a willing target also, so if he doesn't want to kill goats, he could automatically resist the spell.

"I'm coming," Lux shouts to her companions as she hears the sounds of battle from above. She fails to make some progress until Teneb gives her some room, then she hoists herself up onto the cliff. "Well, this turned ugly fast..." She gives Mirtha a quizzical look. "I think they're just normal goats, Mirtha. No spawn of Asmodeus, far as I can tell. We just startled them, is all..."

Normal goats or not, Lux recognizes that she'll have to defend. She leans sideways to allow the coyote on her neck on the ground. "Let's see if we can scare them off. Ozul, attack!"

I think it's taking me two actions this turn to climb, leaving me in the square that Teneb just left. For my last action, I'd like to command Ozul. The animal companion then has two actions. One is spent moving down (to the square between Teneb and Mirtha on the map?), the second one to bite the green goat.

Mirtha summons a hand full of fire and throws it at the nearest goat roasting it somewhat, before commanding the half-orc to slay those beasts!

Lux has climbed to the 20ft mark in this round. (Some confusion. Lux started the combat on the ground. She didn’t roll a high enough initiative to go before the goats so this is her first round of actions. Since you posted the climb rolls I when ahead and posted your actions for this round after the goat’s actions in the last post. To get us back in sync, I will wait and process your current post in my next round post or updated actions you may post before then.)

Raznik yells out his dinner plan as he fires arrows at the purple one, unfortunately, they both fly wide missing the goat.

BOT: Following Mirtha’s Diabolic command, he double strides forward and attacks the nearest goat. His slash hits with the full force of his vengeance killing the purple goat outright.

The orange goat raises back its head and bashes at Conso repeatedly to no avail missing three times.

The blue goat lowers his horns and charges at Teneb. Its impact is deflected by his armor as is its second attack.

The last goat rushes forward with horns ready trying to hit the goblin, but misses with its charge and follow up bash.
